Straight out of Kotaku

Two parts of the short story

New Pokémon game Pokémon: Black and White is set in the fictional Unova. According to the game's designer Junichi Masuda, it's modeled after New York, complete with Brooklyn Bridge, Financial District and Ground Zero? But above the financial district, it's a barren wasteland of rubble and destroyed buildings. O'Farrell notes what gamers have been saying previously: that it is Ground Zero.So... i'm not exactly sure if this is a big deal or not... my first Brain reaction is "not" though. But, i really... and i do mean this... i really would like to see the likes of Fox News catching wind of THIS story. There is just the evil feeling flowing inside that would really enjoy watching the fallout of this into the media.

I wonder if Nintendo will change the wasteland thing to avoid "alienating" US people or something like that.

Goddammit, people.
Just... goddammit.

I swear to god, if Nintendo wusses out and removes this ground zero, I'm buying up as many shares of Nintendo as possible and then sell them so hard.

Hopefully Nintendo lets us keep The Unova Ground Zero Location. You know since it'd be more insulting not to include.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo will keep the physical area but will pretty much wipe and redo every single connotation that could allude to Ground Zero.

If this map really was made to reflect NY, i have little faith they would try to fly this under the radar. Probably wouldn't work either.

And Ground Zero or not the thing is going to sell like bastard anyway.

Every game with new york has Ground Zero. from Spiderman two to Prototype.
It's going to be nothing

Bluntly, I don't see the big deal. Kids know about 9/11, and quite a few things the blogger Kotaku pulled this thing from said were wrong. Is this really something to get worked up about?

Yeah, I'm not sure I see the big deal.

Like, if they were making fun of it or making you actively participate in creating it/sabotaging its recovery I guess I could see something to talk about, but just putting Ground Zero there at all?

Not something to get worked up over. Sure as hell isn't newsworthy.

No it really isn't. And yet, people might

I don't really care what they based the region on. I just care if the game is fun to play and what not.

Back in the ancient days of Shinto, the Japanese would include a conquered region in Pokemon as a symbol of victory. If we let them put Ground Zero in Black and White, it's a show of weakness and submission to International Shinto Terrorism.

Not really, because When American Developers try to make Japanese themed Games, you get Daikatana.

I think we're all ignoring the most important question here:

Do they have any plans to build a pokemosque? And if so, how disrespectful is it to all the pokemon that lost pokeloved ones on poke9/11?

My version of that joke was better because it soared leagues above Bells' head.

Yes, but mine had the word "pokemosque."

The better way to stick it to Nintendo would be to sell the shares and then buy them, in the manner of the stock trading practice known as "short selling"! :knowledge:

This wouldn't have happened if Unova would just accept the gospel of Allahkazam.

I mentioned Daikatana, how much more of a punchline can something be?!

Also you guys still have a long road ahead if you can't make at least one Arceus joke out of this, c'mon!

No, see, Arceism is basically Pokemon Scientology. Unova is a nice, peaceful, Mew-fearing country, much like Kanto.
