So, any one managed to take a look at it? The free demo is out at Steam and it's just around 400mb, so it ain't heavy and you should totally look at it!

Now, i'm not convinced for a buy of this one just quite yet... But i am loving the concept!

Just in case you don't know already, in Magicka you control a Wizard with access to 8 elements of magic. Arcane, Water, Fire, Earth, Shield, Cure, Eletricity and ice. The kick here is that you can combine up to five elements to create your own effects, and you can cast them in area, self or in front of youl There are also a few special magics like Haste or Revive that require specific combos to work

So you have a huge Magical Clusterfuck Arsenal at yoru disposal to quest about, and it's hell of a lot of fun while being intensively frustrating at the same time.

Just test it.. right now... press F D A in your keyboard while lookit at the four corners of your screen while draggin an Icon across the screen.

That's what is like playing this game. And they manage to make it fun!

The main point of course is thaty ou can (and should) play it 4 player coop (online or off, but in the demo you can only play it offline) considering a few things.

1 - There is friendly fire
2 - certain elements negate or counter others
3 - Coordination is a must.

Fun had by all!

Now, one of the main features this game need in multiplayer and i don't know if it has is Voice Chat during gameplay.. as far as i know there is only Text chat. Which would make this game unbearable... you really need a Mic to coordinate in a game like this.

Just to drive you by what magical options this game gives you...

Cast Shield. Up front, it creates a barrier. On self, it creates a magical armor, on Area, it makes a Bubble.

Now, Combine Shield and Eletricity... you create a Eletrical Curtain.

Shield and fire? Fire wall!

Shield and Earth? Stone wall!

Shield, Arcane and Ice? A selection of Mines that when stepped on, explode causing damage AND freezing the target.

Same thing with fire! Fire makes a fire-breath-like spray. Fire + Fire makes a bigger one! Fire + Earth = Explosive meteor

And so on and so on! Greath stuff.

Reviews say the game is Glitchy (haven't seen one yet) and there are drawbacks (You die if water touches your knee... drowned...), for instance, certain explosive magics have a Knockback effect. But... it's kinda big. Aim poorly and you will sent yourself plying! And if there is water, lave or a pit around.... yeah..

So, Magicka seems pretty fun... anyone else giving it a try?

I really really really really really wanted to give this game a try. But my graphics card prevents me from doing this. Apparently, my graphics card isn't supported. I get kicked after the title screen when I try the demo.

What card you have? I'm assuming your DirectX and Drivers are up to date

DirectX 11, and yeah I'm fairly certain my drivers are up-to-date.

If you want voice chat I guess you could use Steam's own VOIP while you play?

I've been playing the demo and the one big problem I have is that you can't skip that damn tutorial. That and the goblin archers who knock you down. Who thought that was a good idea? Otherwise it's a v cool game.

I can't play it since my IGP doesn't have the shaders for it...

Very buggy release. Nultiplayer still not functional. Love the premise though, and I am looking forward to more single player.

Use your "Push" magic (the Air Buff, just press right mouse with no elements selected) it deflect arrows and bombs. In fact, the arrows are there to break your Focus on picking and charging magics. A quick Meteor ( F D i think... Fire + Rock) is enough to take Goblin archers out so you can work the other enemies closer to you

Uhn yeah... for what i saw that really is the problem right there... even though the game is not all that feature heavy.

If you ever consider to upgrade, i can suggest you my own card, the Zotac GeFOrce 9600 GSO (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500149&cm_re=Zotac_video_card-_-14-500-149-_-Product). It's fairly cheap for a decent video card ( $69 ) and with it i can play games like Call of Duty Black Ops, Mass Effect 2, Fallout New Vegas, Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, Burnout Paradise with everything on Max. So i tell ya, it's a decent deal.

I know the pushing thing, it's actually getting within range of an effective spell that's the issue. I usually use Haste and hope I can get around the arrows and do an AOE spell or two to take them out.

Yeah, figured I'd need an upgrade. Especially since I want to get Starcraft 2. My system could barely run that on the lowest setting when I was playing the beta.

Guess that means Magicka is out until I can find a job.

well, considering all the bugs, that's not even a bad idea... i'm sure there will be some updates soon enough. Wouldn't even put it past a sequel a few months ahead if they manage to fix some of these issues.

Upon further inspection of this game, my opinion is that it is not worth buying. The people who made it came up with a cool system for combining elements into different spells, but literally every single other aspect of the game is awful. The friendly fire is so extreme that you can accidentally kill a teammate faster than you can blink, and fights are chaotic enough that it happens frequently. The game is full of bugs and glitches and is already on its 7th patch since release, still having some problems. The online play is particularly buggy. A few friends and I have been trying to play it for a while now and we keep getting odd errors like a player's text becoming invisible to other players or people's spells being ignored even though they've got a good connection. Playing the campaign, every 5 feet you walk prompts an interruption of some kind that takes control of the player, points the camera somewhere else, and makes you wait through dialogue that can only sometimes be skipped. The experience is choppy and the combat pacing is awful. Oftentimes on single player one will die so quickly and randomly that they cannot even tell what killed them.

I believe the chaotic friendly fire is supposed to be part of the fun. At least, it's one of the main things that attracted me to the game.

Friendly fire on some level could make it fun, especially since the attitude of the game seems to be a bit light and silly, much like Castle Crashers.

However, when every single spell you cast has a huge chance of accidentally instantly killing your teammates, it gets frustrating. Some friendly fire makes it fun, but they could turn it down a bit.

The wise developer implements a FF Slider. From None to Ridiculous.

The main probably really is that with 4 players and enemies, the maps are too tiny. Some spells can easily cover 1/4 of the screen. That's 25% of chance of you hitting something you don't want/shouldn't . And that's X4 with 4 players. that IF you have good teammates.

The concept is awesome, the artwork is great and voicework too... but it was too hastly done. I'm sure they will release a new version soo enough, but it didn't win me over.
