If no one's heard, TF2 just got more awesome. Basically, now you can do replays...

Then I check and see a friggin Shogun pack (http://www.teamfortress.com/shogunpack/)...

And all around, I'm trying NOT to get back into this game, but then it sucks me back in.

CURSE YOU STEAM!!!

Is there a NPF server somewhere? I need to find me a good server to play on.

Preferably with no ear-bleeding microphone users.

We got an NPF group on Steam...

Yeah, no servers but we do have a pretty awesome group.

Basically on NPFTF2 Nights we just descend like a plague upon hapless empty servers, and then abandon them if random unpleasant non-NPFers show up.

That's the best way to do it.

I suggest the HALOLZ (http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/174.34.131.46:27015/) servers They can be a bit laggy every month or so but There is a Ton of People playing the game for the game and just fooling around.

On a related note, we haven't had an L4D2 night in forever. Those zombies wont shoot themselves, you know.

I looked at the stats of the new weapons and there is some groundbreaking stuff.
First there is the New buff banner Which acts like The scouts milk. Then there is a Katana that fully heals upon kill...but Cant be switched out Until a kill is made. Then we have a New spy knife that allows you to augment your health with that of your enemy...for the price of having almost No health to begin with. and the medic gets this HILARIOUS geisha hat

I played for less than a hour and got the kunai. A sneeze kills you, but if you backstab someone then you're slighty more resilent...For a bit. In the end, you die very quickly if you don't go in a backstabbing frenzy.

You know, between awesome updates like that, and the bullshit of the chests and keys... I find it hard to pick whether or not to pick TF2 up.

I'm leaning more towards NOT, and not being in a similar timezone to you guys doesn't help sway me to the other side.

But really. That's just some pretty swank gear they added this time.

The game is loads of fun, totally worth it. The only Payed Shooter i ever got and i don't regret it.

Sometimes you get yourself in those fun situations where you are the only medic in your team and the whole team is made of a spy, a scout and 4 Engineers... fun times....

But other than that, it's great. I'm yet to bump into one of ya online, but it would be great to trade insults while blowing people up

Can someone just make a game where I build myself a castle out of junk I dug up out of the Earth, then shoot pipe bombs at people from it?

I DON'T THINK THAT IS TOO MUCH TO ASK, QUITE FRANKLY.

There's probably a Team Minecraft mod (in the making) somewhere.

I DO know somebody modified the bow and arrow in Minecraft into an assault rifle from Halo, so I don't think it's entirely impossible to do.

I personally think it's still worth it. You can always delete the chests you get or trade them off to people (there's a regular on the Halolz server who's a good fence), and I'm not hardcore enough to care about promotional items or preorders. Still, I do wish it was easier to set up things like "vanilla" servers for people who don't want to deal with some of the new stuff. In general, it is grating at times, but I do feel that it could be much worse.

Plus, you don't really NEED the items to do well. A lot of them are "sidegrades", offering a different playstyle or opening up different tactics without necessarily being better than the stock equipment, although of course you do get the odd exception, notably the Natascha for the Heavy before Valve nerfed it down.

The chests and keys ARE bullshit but they are pretty easily ignorable bullshit.

Okay, so I'm right back in the middle then on deciding.

Still, I'm not the kind of person who just goes online and joins random games... not being in the same timezone as you guys really makes getting the game unattractive.

There's probably a Team Minecraft mod (in the making) somewhere.

There's a map called pl_minepit that you can download. It's pretty sweet, they replaced ammo pickups with iron and diamonds.

And I don't tend to join random servers either unless we're doing a Steam Night (steam morning/afternoon it would be for you I suppose?), since there are many many servers out there that people run for friends and associates. I tend to spend a lot of time on the MSPA servers (which run minepit by the way!), and I think someone else mentioned the Halolz server here too.

In summary, find a server, play a while, and ignore the paid items if you really don't care about them. It's got the most bang for your buck of any FPS I can think of (unless you actually use the Mannconomy, which really isn't necessary especially if you have friends willing to pass on dupes) so if you've got 20 bucks lying around (modified for exchange rate), I'd absolutely recommend it.

EDIT: Oh, and yeah those samurai items look pretty awesome, I'm looking forward to trying them out.

I got one of the Samurai weapons in a random drop. It's a melee weapon for the Soldier. It's so honourable, you can't switch weapons until you get a kill.

You should be aware of custom maps though, some of them are not really very good.I was in this Mario Kart Themed one, seems really fun to play (there were an assort of Vehicles running freely around the map and you could jump in on any of them) but it was too easy to spawnkill. I Got 8 kills in a row as an engi, i just plaaced a Lvl 3 turrent in front of their spawn point and stayed close by spamming shotgun at the same place from a side angle.

Mario Kart seems to be more of a lolserver than a "serious" one. It's the one where you end up running around like a moron riding the carts and finding annoying places to snipe from than actually getting into "real" TF2 matches. (Sniper blends in so well in maps with garish colors like MK and Cyberpunk; it's hilarious.)

Similarly, Cyberpunk is mostly a level for people to mess with the music player, motion-taunt on the dance floor, and get into ellaborate sniper/demoman wars on servers with the low gravity function enabled.

Not that these server shenanigans can't be fun, mind you.

personally I am usually more of a no-nonsense TF2 gamer, so besides when I decided to slum it on some custom maps I stick with Lotus clan servers, most are 32 players, no mods, and rather strict on mic spam, griefing, and other annoyances. Only thing I dont like is they are typically rather full.

In any case if you are worried about the dicks that tend to be in online multiplayer, find a few servers that are good at smacktard fumigation and favorite them. Should be fine. In fact I think I'll jump on for abit, it to just make sure I dont get rusty

So, I totally got Team Fortress 2.
Also, some L4D2, thanks to Azisien.

Assuming you won't all play when it's 3 AM for me, I'm totally willing to play clay pigeon for you guys.

I got a chance to try out the kunai (I got a spare if anyone wants to trade any of the new stuff) and i found it works well with the dead ringer. Before I strike I rely on dead ringer to keep me alive so loss of health isn't a big deal, where I'm most vulnerable is immediately after a kill before my cloak recharges so the extra health gives me a much nicer margin of error.
