View Full Version : Rift: Like WoW Meets Warhammer, Except Less Shitty

So I had this game bought for me, and to my surprise I am actually enjoying it quite a bit. Rogue tanks are not only viable but actually work quite well and are, I understand, actually preferred for some encounters, and there are mages that are quite good at healing too (I healed an instance the other night with my mage after buying an extra role for it). Etc. Etc.
Mostly I'm enjoying playing around with the fact that you get 3/8 subclasses for each class, and can change those subclasses on a whim, and for pretty cheap (respeccing is cheap as shit), which lets me play with all these build ideas and what not. So far I'm really enjoying Necromancer/Warlock, Nightblade/Ranger, and Paragon/Riftblade/Beastmaster.
ANYWAY, THAT IS ALL POINTLESS BULLSHIT:
Mostly I just want to know this: Anyone else play? If so, Shard/Class/Level/Name/Faction.
I've got characters on Neddra (PvP) 'cause that is where I was first introduced, Shadefallen (PvE RP) 'cause Ren plays there (if anyone remembers who that is anymore), and Aedraxis (PvE) 'cause SOMEONE doesn't like PvP (it's my mother).
I mostly prefer Defiant, but most of my characters have ended up being Guardian because for some reason most of the people I've been playing with are Guardian. Even though Defiant is obviously superior.
But as that I suffer from severe altoholism and am all over already, I wouldn't mind making a character on someone else's shard or whatever.

Defiant is clearly superior. It's spelt out early on! I mean, the Guardian tutorial is all about how you went and saved the world, and got chosen by the gods to save it again. And then the Defiant tutorial is all like "Whelp, those guys went and fucked everything up completely, go back and fix it."
I'm a little to tired to go into my thoughts on the game at the moment, save that it's fantastic and everyone should play it, but I'll probably post those up when I have more time.
Playing on the Crucia shard with some friends, m'self. We have a guild Defiant side, if anyone wants to come along I'm happy to send an invite. I've given all the classes a shot, and I do like them all, though for now my main is my rogue Solomus. Made it to level 37 on him, while the others haven't really left Freemarch yet.

Ok, so I've not quite gotten to writing up my thoughts on this game, and I'm far to lazy to bother doing so without being paid for it, so that may not actually happen. I'll just leave it at this game takes pretty much everything good about mmos and makes it better (with the rather notable exception of a LFG system, but that's easy to get around). Seriously, this game is fun as hell.
But! The main reason I'm posting is This! (http://uk.riftgame.com/en/products/allies.php?utm_source=allies%252bof%252bthe%252bas cended%252buk&utm_medium=email&utm_content=text03312011&utm_campaign=rift%252b-%252bfriends%252bplay%252bfree%252bthis%252bweeken d) From April 1st to April 4th, I can invite people to try out the game free! So if you've been thinking "Well, it looks ok, but I don't want to spend my money without knowing if I'll like it", this is your chance! And since it's only open for a few days, I'm willing to share with you guys! Just send me a PM if you're interested. I've only got a few, but judging by the rate this thread's moved I doubt they'll be moving fast.

Speaking of, I'm co-leader of a guild on Neddra these days. Got promoted to leader by the creator 'cause I played with her for like two hours the night before she made it. It's kinda small, but the people all actually know how to play their roles well enough that if you run with mostly the guild the dungeon will get done. Usually without any wipes.
Guild is called ex-soldier, and my characters are Sinasis and Malira.

Defiant, sorry. Thought that was in my earlier post, but looking at it, I guess I never specified which servers I was which on.

1) HOLY CRAP. Are you still going out with Ren? It seemed so up and down back in the day.
2) I haven't yet had the chance to play Rift yet as almost all of my funds that aren't devoted to bills or food have been funneled towards my rapidly approaching wedding and resultant honeymoon. Once I get the money, though, I'll likely buy it. Unless I get it for my birthday.

Ok, so I finally got around to expert dungeons in the last few days. They're fantastic. Anyone else fought the last boss of X-Kings Breach? Best fight in an mmo ever. Spikes everywhere! We did Realm of the Fae afterwards, which was tricky since we were Defiants and had no idea where to even find the instance, let alone what was in it... we got through ok though. Any fights that we didn't have the dps for, we just switched to Bard-cleric-chloro and over healed like crazy. Just waiting for the guild healers to gear up a little more before we head into tier 2. We're starting to recruit for enough people to go raiding soon, but I imagine it'll take a while to get people up to Tier 3 level gear.
Also, the next patch looks awesome. We get a 5th build, crafting gets fixed up, I've heard rumours of guild banks, and there's mention of an LFG system in the testing server notes. Can't wait.
So yeah, why aren't more people playing this fantastic game?

I logged on yesterday to Silverwood being completely overrun by the plane of fire.
Great job, everyone. Way to ignore an invasion so long.

I would like to play this, but there's no way in hell my pc could handle it. Shame really, sounds fun. Logging on to find the world overrun by invading armies is pretty cool.

I'm bumping around on Harrow (RPPVP) if anyone cares. Not too far in the game, just hit 14.
