This looks really interesting even though it is still in Alpha. Ace of Spades is a voxel based shooter with randomly generated maps and the ability to build your own fortresses, foxholes, pillboxes, trenches and tunnels to bypass the same structures that the other team is building. Plus guns! I haven't had the chance to play it yet (don't have windows), but from reading about it on forums and seeing gameplay videos makes me very interested. People have done some incredibly clever things such as Viet Cong-like networks of underground tunnels to creating dummy targets for the enemy to shoot and give away their position.
From what i've read, server and cheater issues are currently a problem, but this is definitely something to keep an eye out for.

does look interesting, though, seriously, iron-sight aiming?

I'm actually surprised there aren't more minecraft play-alikes since it's been growing in popularity/financial viability for a while and it's p. obvious that Notch has specific ideas about the type of game it should be that aren't the kind of ideas everyone else is gonna have. The build/destroy mechanic could be tweaked and repurposed in all kinds of ways that it hasn't yet been.

Well, recently FortressCraft got released on Xbox Live.
As you can imagine, it's gotten a LOT of flak from the Minecraft fanboys.

Very immature behaviour from both sides, by the way.

I think it's because Minecraft is still only five months old, so we're just starting to see the waves of spin-offs.

Anyway, Ace of Spades is definitely fun, sooo.

You need iron sight aiming (which zooms in a bit too) in this game, because without it, you're just blazing away with a WWII-era rifle. You also only have fifty bullets, you can usually only see their head, and if they're smart they'll be in a bunker colored the exact some shade as their heads. So you're going to hit jack shit if you don't take the time to aim. Like the RPS article says, it's less TF2 and more Red Orchestra.

If we were to be honest here, this game has what Minecraft doesn't want to have. Cause this is not where Notch is taking his game. But quite often you see people in the Minecraft forums requesting more competitive game modes to make use of all the Swords and Bows you can make. This one just took the most obvious spin with Rifles and Grenades.

If the Minecraft guys added a PvP option for servers and worked more on Bows and Swords, you would see a pretty big boom on Minecraft, but this is not where they are going.
