http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/3075-Videogames-Are-Not-Movies-Get-Over-It

The new Guy at the Escapist's Website. Now, most first videos have room for improvement, but check the Escapist and you will see that they hardly change that much, so my guess is that this one is short lived.

Badly Dressed Douchebag talking nonstop with Microphone in hand against colorless background? Do not want.

But to his major point... i'm not sure if he is on to something. Aside from his Video being just an excuse to dump over Heavy Rain, but who mix Games with Movies?

They blend. They don't "mix".. i mean, a some games (not all) try to be an Interactive Narrative. Those are the RPG's and the other Plot Driven games. They ARE a story intended in Arcs with structures very similar to movies and Books, but they are interactive. And as technology improves creators have more capacity to let you mold the story your own way. Which is an Evolution that Movies can't access.

If Games are art or not, i think it's a silly argument to make. But to say that it's stupid to correlate games and movies, well.. that's just stupid

Games are not movies and they shouldn't try to be. Atleast not just for the reason of "movies are mainstream and mainstream is cool, right? so maybe games should be like movies!"

I think he has a valid point. Okay, the production quality is rather meh, but if you listen to what he has to say, with how the video game industry is putting itself as second best behind the movie industry instead of being self-validating, he's pretty well right. The games industry needs to get more self-confidence in the value of its unique identity, because if developers don't see themselves as valid, neither will anyone else.

I'd have more respect for this thread if it wasn't using ad hominem attacks in the thread title itself! Just because the guy's a fat douchebag doesn't mean his opinion is fucking retarded (though he does sound like a stupid shit, frankly).

He repeats himself about 40 damn times. After about 2 minutes, I turned him off.

Yes, he needs more damn experience to be worth my time.

He is trying to be Movie bob + AVGN... not really working. He has one Statement that he keeps rolling over and over with different insults and bland connections...

Now, quite honestly, i understand there is a problem with people in game-making trying to associate themselves with Movies rather investing in their own identity. But i don't see this as a problem of Gamer Culture or Virion. This is a Management problem, the suits, the guys with the Money. Game Makers don't really want to push their games to be more movie-like... The guys that handle the Business part of the Game world want. And that makes sense for them.

Cause Movies are more identifiable with a larger audience, and they understand movies better than games.

What this guy is doing in his video is Akin to saying that the People behind the Stupid Dead Space 2 "Yo momma hates it" campaign are the same people that actually made the game, and they are not. But what can you really do? These are folks that live by the numbers, and the numbers tell them that they are right because the game sold a buttload... and games cost a Buttload to make in the Triple A industry, and they are paying... and usually the guy with the money set the rules.

In his video he addresses the issue as if it was something "we" do. It's not, i know that because most of you who bought Dead Space, or Liked it, didn't do so because of it's stupid ass marketing campaign. You did it for the game (which tries to be very "movie-like" but it works in this Gameplay concept).

So, for me this guy is shooting the right bullets at the wrong targets, and he looks and talks like a Douchebag.

I couldn't get past the opening.

Was he pantsless there, or were they just pulled down around his ankles? I guess that stick up his ass hurts to much for him to be properly clothed sometimes.

I shut it off after about a minute. Just repeating himself over and over and points that are pretty obvious and not profound.

Still not as bad as moviebob though- whose current low is I'm going to explain how criticism works but just with my own little ideas and not reference any of the ideas of the entire academic disciplines based around this subject. Like if you're going to make statements about how "art is subjective, reviews is subjective" in absolutist tones you probably should at least address the other side of the argument- cause not everyone agree and the point you treat as self-explanatory isn't.

I clicked the link, found out it was actually Jimquisition, then closed the tab. The guy is a writer over on Destructoid (http://www.destructoid.com/), where his Jimquisition videos have been going for a while now I think. I might have watched one of them? I don't remember 'cause I sure didn't watch it all the way through. Around a year or two ago (I think, not sure exactly how far back it was) a lot of his articles/reviews were just him being an asshole, a douchebag, or a troll. Thankfully his articles have improved greatly since then.

If anyone is so inclined all the previous Jimquisitions can be found here. (http://www.destructoid.com/elephant/index-short.phtml?t=The%20Jimquisition) I guess he's been doing them since last May, so don't expect much change from the established formula.

I'd have more respect for this thread if it wasn't using ad hominem attacks in the thread title itself! Just because the guy's a fat douchebag doesn't mean his opinion is fucking retarded (though he does sound like a stupid shit, frankly). To be fair, the very description of the video itself uses the phrase "biggest douchebag." So however negative, "A fat douchebag saying that games aren't movies" is a rather accurate title.

That said, I simply couldn't focus on this guy long enough to get what he was saying. Nothing in particular grabbed at me and interested me enough to capture my attention, and that goes double for the presentation.

Also, I have to wonder why this guy is dressed in a suit and tie, standing up and with a hand microphone, for this. Are we supposed to make believe like he's standing on stage in front of an audience or something?
