So, I've started a Mother 3 LP that, for various reasons, I'm going to do Chip and Ironicus style, where I pre-record the footage, and then get someone or someones to help with commentary. I've already got almost two hours of footage recorded.

So, this is a casting call, of sorts. Anyone who'd like to help with it just let me know. I'm thinking one or two people max, but if more people want to help then that we can see about a rotation. I'm going to break what I have recorded into several episodes, and then post them over time.

Also, a quick question: Should any of the lines be read out loud by those doing the commentary, since the game doesn't have voice acting? I ask only because I know some people just like to have LPs running in the background while they do other stuff, but I can see how it'd be annoying so thus I ask.

If you'd like to help with the commentary, just let me know via a post in this thread and get me your Skype info. If you don't want others seeing your Skype info, send it to me via PM, but still post in this thread that you want to join in.

Also guys, new thing. We're going to have two LPs going on at the same time. There's the LP Proper, but there'll also be the Kirby 2000 version, since we found Mother 3 fanfics on his Facebook.

HOW THIS WILL WORK

It'll essentially be a competition. I'll link the fanfic we need recorded here, and then you all can submit your versions of it. The winning version gets synced up with the right gameplay and credited when the vid goes online. Maybe I'll come up with other rewards if possible.

There's only a very small chance that reading it out would improve the LP, but almost a certainty that it would annoy viewers. Even if you're sure you're not overacting inappropriately or, on the other end of the scale, droning, there will be viewers who feel you are. Mother 3 stands very well on its own.

I'm not sure a video LP is the right format for RPGs, incidentally - the gameplay tends to be a lot of walking around and turn-based fighting, which is going to get old to watch pretty quickly unless your commentary is stellar. I've always felt that (well done) screenshot LPs provide a great way to show off the look of the game and give the reader the leisure to read through dialogue scenes at their own pace. (Your call of course, also if you are a regular provider of stellar commentary, disregard this.)

hahah
Never read the lines aloud, especially if you are doing group commentary.

Pretty much my feelings, but I thought I'd see what others thought.

I think the nice thing about Mother 3 is that it really gives me a lot to talk about. There's a lot of subjects I could cover, stuff I can point out, things like that.

There's also the fact that screenshot LPs are such a tremendous pain in the ass that if I attempt one I'll never finish it, honestly speaking.

Also you can just edit out a bunch of the random battles and other boring shit.

Shit, Non, I'll so record something for this after reading it. It will suck, but It can only make it better

EDIT: I recorded the prologue in one take on my first read, it's terrible, there's laughing, struggling with that guy's sentences and I take a break twice to gather the strength to carry on. I will now try to record another take, where I try to take it more seriously make it sound less terrible.

A short preview of the fanfic version (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KB8rxvx5Cbk)

Editing this takes forever, but I thought I'd offer a taste of what to expect from this half of the Mother 3 LP.

A thought I had: Should I show off some terrible Mother 3 art whenever Kirby 2000 describes something or someone?

Yes, do that. But Meister has to draw it.

I am okay with that.

Also you need to do the Kermit voice for the save frogs.

e: dunno if I posted this before, but when I first found this fanfic, "Night of a Funnel" caught my eye immediately.

I am okay with that.

If you're up for it, it would be pretty rad, I think.

Also, I forgot to mention it, but POS is responsible for the audio for this update, so give him a round of applause.

That was fantastic. Do more.

I dunno what's more unbelievable, that Kirby2000 is still at his fanfics, or that he is exactly as awful as he was way back when.

When they got there Flint went to Lucas and Claus in which Lucas was crying and Claus had dried up tear and they both have fear in there eyes so whatever it was that they are sad about have to be really bad if Claus haven't got over it completely it yet he get over things really fast.
This was the hardest thing I've ever had to correctly read out loud.

I can't tell what it says, all I see when I look at it are red eyes and rolling black smoke.

Kaatridge: You guys seem to have better chemistry, but I'm not sure this is actually good for the LP, as I kinda zoned out while watching and got completely lost because ya'll started talkin' 'bout things I didn't care about. Also: Like I said in chat the dude needs to learn to pull the microphone out of his throat. Listening to him heaving and breathing and snorting before, after, and during everything he says got real old real quick. It sounded like he had some kind of horrible sinus infection.

Snake/Bob/You: Somewhat worse chemistry, but you stayed 'on point' more which made it easier to pay attention to. Need to do something about volume though. You're much quieter than Snake or Bob (you're also quieter than Kaart, but not as much), whom are also much louder than any game sounds. Resulting in me needing them to be uncomfortably loud to make you/anything in the game out, or being unable to reliably make you/the game out if they are at a volume I like.

NOTE HOWEVER I only watched like the first 2.5 minutes of Kaart (when I got lost), and the first 4 minutes of Bob/Snake. I may or may not watch more of each at some later date and my opinion may change upon doing so. But first impressions of each video are as above.

The Audio in the Kaatridge one simply hurts my ears. Sounds like a really crappy noise removal filter has been applied. Couldn't get farther than thirty seconds in.

Quality wise, the Bob-Snake-Con is bearable. But there's those constant... dunno noise removal artifacts, again, I guess, but it's not as extreme. Still, kinda annoying. Krylo said the rest already.

I also didn't want to watch that for longer than 10 Minutes because I haven't played the game yet but plan on doing that.

Snake/Bob/You: Somewhat worse chemistry

You don't know about our chemistry!

Apologies for the crappy audio versions.

Here's a better version of Snake, Bob, and I. (http://www.viddler.com/explore/NonCon/videos/64/)

As for the Snake and Bob version, I think a couple things contributed to the weaker on-mic chemistry. Partially it was Snake and Bob not really knowing what I wanted out of the LP, and it sounds like Snake definitely took me trying to fill the silence by just talking informatively about the game to mean that's the only thing I wanted to do, so he didn't try for jokes and humor very much. I think my habit of trying very hard to fill silence, born of me doing a lot of Let's Plays solo, might have put them off talking a bit as well? I'm not sure on that front. If they want to record again, I'm up for it, and hopefully we'll get a better back and forth going next time.

I'll let Kaatridge know that the mic picked up a bit much of his breathing, though it's not half as bad in the new audio version, before we record again as well.
