Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, infamously known as a very hard SNES game. As an avid gamer I have heard of this game, but I have never played it. I have never even played Ghosts 'n Goblins, the predecessor to this, or any of the games in this series. The most experience I have with this game is using Arthur, the main character, in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.

I am doing a blind play through on Professional difficulty of this game. I initially only use save states at checkpoints, so I can break apart the video and take breaks. Though now when a level is taking to long I'll use a state to give myself a reasonable check point.

Since I'm going in blind, I don't know anything about this game besides what I've picked up from Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and any old knowledge I may have had about this game from what I've heard. I'm not even Googling.

Story wise, Sir Arthur is saving Queen/Princess ______ from some Ghouls. That's all I've got.

Question: Is it harder than the NES version or relatively easy in comparison?

I believe it is considered much harder.

Here's a protip: The crossbow is the only slightly useful weapon besides the knives, and it's not terrific. Without bronze or gold armor it sucks in more ways than I can easily descibe, but if you do get the homing bolts you can abuse the crap out of not having to aim. It's excellent against the very hardest enemies, who move a lot, and in boss fights where you want to move a lot. Not great when they go after the wrong enemy or get locked in an orbit around an enemy, but that's the price. Most of the weapons have some kind of attempt at balance, like the crappier ones have fantastic gold armor specials, but it's not like you can beat basic firepower.

Also, I recommend jumping around at every point of the screen you can reach to find hidden chests. The more chests you open the faster you get armor upgrades. I think.

Otherwise, good luck on the insanely Nintendo hard journey before you.

As you will see in this segment, fuck the upgraded crossbow.

I'm already thinking of another LP, and since Ghouls 'n Ghost doesn't warrant much discussion, may as well mention it here.

I'm either going to play Hydrophobia: Prophecy for the first time since I just bought it. So me just commenting and talking as I play through a recently released game (It's a released of something from September).

Or a screenshot LP of Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. This one would use voting to control how I play the game on a roughly week by week basis of in game time. Done through a story-like journal system (Since that is what the save system is designed as) It is entirely possible if I do this I'll still do Hydrophobia, since I'll probably play it regardless, or something simple like Vectorman to throw on YouTube.

Edit - Oops, thought I uploaded something and didn't post it here. So the repost wasn't really needed.

If you want to play something different you you should play Demon's Crest. Which is sort of a spin-off of that game. Only it doesn't want to kill you as hard and you are controlling a goddamn Gargoyle instead of a little knight. Also: It's a fantastic game.

So far the LP is actually fun. Listening to you losing is hypnotic. Just turn your TV off when you're recording, that can be pretty annoying.

About the part with the lava pillars and spiked bone platforms, it occurred to me: this is a test. This will prove you are a true man.

Also, urgh, HM:FoMT. I watched _mike play that for a while. It got to the point where in real life if he wasn't doing something, he started to get stressed out about wasting time. Then his save got corrupted and he got better.

He had named his farm Weed Farm and was feeding one of the girls in town grass because she liked grass, I guess.

Level 4: The Lost Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLxI08pERGo)

The thing I kept worrying about happened, so it actually looks like I'm not bad at this game.

I'm only half-way through the new video, and I feel robbed that we didn't get to see the first time the entire world turned to spikes and killed you.

Wow. Wow game designers. Giving the player motion sickness is not an intended feature of Mode 7; you're not supposed to do it intentionally.

Level 5: I'm Getting Better I Think (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhYgWi9ju8w)

And sorry to disappoint phil, but I realized that the ground was going to kill me from the start. I never died due to lack of jumping away (Though I have missed the small platforms).

Level 6: The Easy Level (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLc5Oekfqrk)

A surprisingly easy level. Mostly because it was just a boss.

Got to love enemies that dodge attacks better than you can (with the exception of the whatever-it-should-be that goes vertical first, then returns and goes horizontal and to a lesser extent the arrows).

If you don't mind me saying, you look like you might need some help there. So, you know that chest you can open as soon as you load your save state? Don't open it right away. That way when you jump for the money bags high up on the wall just right of there, you won't land on whatever weapon was in it and you can get the second chest that spawns right next to it when you make the jump. And the third chest that spawns when you make a double jump straight up one step left of the ladder might just get you a gold armor before you even leave the room. :D

Also, the gargoyles don't have a set pattern. They're so evil they actually react in real time to your movements, most of the time. They tend to go up or to the side when you shoot and up when you jump, and go into a divebombing arc when you're trapped in a double jump, and shoot sparks or imp swarms if you don't move for a while. And sometimes they do any of those things randomly, just to fuck with you a little more.

I always opened the first chest because I wanted the crossbow out of it. I didn't get the bow then save because I didn't want to use save states that much.

Congratulations! You made it to the hard part. Enjoy the somehow even denser hordes of monsters and the new secret super weapon with the unique abilities of a) doing nearly no damage at range and b) having no power-ups whatsoever no matter how good your armor gets. You only have to use it for the final, ridiculously hard level, but that's almost cheating.

I already played through it again. The last 8 seconds is my second play through. The next video picks up at that last boss, but now with the Goddess Bracelet. Making videos for a second play through that I just did with only one minor difference seemed pointless. Suppose I should have put the speed up at the beginning of the next video instead of the end of this one.

Edit - I actually determined that is the correct course of action so the video is gone for an hour while I upload it again.

Well, that was fast. I'm starting to think you're playing so far ahead my amazing advice isn't helping at all. But on the plus side, you're not getting stuck for weeks at a time. :)

I beat the game about a week ago. I've learned to back log, though I did do that at times with Tactics Ogre. The main difference was this game only took about 5 hours so long before my initial interest would wear out I was already done.

I guess I should've mentioned this earlier but if you're playing using an emulator, there's a "rewind" key which goes back a few seconds.

Whoa, audio desyncs after a while. Can't quite tell when it was, but there's at least a delay of 30 seconds by the end. The sound is ahead of the video by a good bit. I suggest you record that battle again!

Roughly, I think it happens when you reach 2nd form of the boss.

The desync is unfortunate, but oh well.

Level 9: Thank God it's the End (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5WwrGfPZ-w)

Fuck this game.

So the Steam summer sale is on, thus I've picked up a few games. I'll probably record myself while playing one of them.
