View Full Version : "Half Life Episode 3" or "Goddammit, Valve"
So hey, Portal 2! ...Where's my Half Life Episode 3? Didn't you leave it on the rocket launched, big alien bug stealing Eli's brain and leaving him for dead and the rest of the crew (including the players) what was going to happen next?
It's been four years! Are we in for a new Duke Nukem Forever?

TF2 took 9 years so, what do you think?

Is it really episode 3 at this point? Is it not just gona be a full blown Half-Life 3?
On a related note, I just bought Portal 2. What a fantastic game! Now I just need to find somebody to play co-op with.

HL2 was great, but I stopped caring during the final segment of Episode 2 which took everything I liked about Half Life and did it wrong. So I never finished it. Why should I care about Episode 3 now?

I want Valve to call the next Half-Life game Half-Life 4. It'd be a pretty great bit of self-awareness in some respects.

The secret is that they released Half Life 3 two years ago. They just hid it and nobody has found it yet.

Half Life 3 was playable in its entirety via a hidden arcade machine found in Duke Nukem Forever. That was part of the reason the load times were so long. Unfortunately no one cares enough about DNF to look for it.

EP2 endgame gameplay spoilers:
So, I'm the only one who thought that attaching bombs to those giant walker things by using the Gimmick Gun* then having to shoot these bombs was annoying as hell? Oh, and if you screw up you just might have to go pretty far to get a new bomb. Ah, the fun I had not giving a damn to see how it ended after a while. I just had no motivation to try winning this part after failing a few times. Normally I don't give up that fast. I had less trouble taking them down with a rocket launcher in the main game. And those fragile looking fuckers take tons of rockets before they go down. I bet I wouldn't have minded so much If I had at least enough rockets, or something so I'd have an alternative in case I screw up and lose the bomb. I mean, it's really commendable to try and mix things up, especially with such long games. But this particular thing just didn't do anything for me.
*Yes, I know the Gravity gun actually originates from Half Life, but I always call it Gimmick Gun. Just saying that before someone feels the need to point it out.

Quit bitchin' about that, I probably did worse than you on that yet I decided to push through because . . . well I don't really know why.
Also Lost Coast is actually episode 3 in it's super early pre-release .0001 alpha version.

What, the Hunters? You had trouble running them over? A super-boost makes them roadkill.

I thought Valve dropped episodic gaming and that's why there's no Episode 3? There will probably be Half-Life 3 at some point, whenever they're done making amazing other games.

The final battle in Half-Life 2: Episode 2 was the best thing ever.
If you really have trouble with it, just save the game a lot?
I seriously have zero complaints about any of Half-Life 2 and its episodes. Just absolutely a total blast.
A lot of people have been kicking around that the next Half-Life game will just be a straight-up Half-Life 3 but that doesn't make a lot of sense since they seem to want to finish this current story arc with the Combine within the aegis of "Half-Life 2". When they make a Half-Life 3 it's going to be something big and new, like GTA III v. GTA IV, in my opinion.

I liked the game, but it did get abit repetitive at times. after about the fourth time I was sick of counter-balancing see-saws

I believe in an interview a while back Gabe said that the episodes 1 & 2, and eventually 3, are considered to be Half Life 3 broken up into three episodes. Their failing was the awkward naming convention.
In a more recent interview gabe, vague as fuckin always, said, "If you know enough to ask the question, you know enough what the answer is."
Guess that's a never!
In any case, they've also said that it won't be the end of the Half Life series but more like the end of the current story-arc. Though with Valve saying they're moving away from single player only games in another interview I'm not sure what to think about Half Life beyond the current arc. I love Valve and all but holy fuck it's like the left hand doesn't even know the right hand exists.

I just wish Valve would be honest. If they just put out something along the lines of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QbSQ8JbyQo8), everybody would stop hounding them.
Maybe.

Didn't that news come out as a random rumour and the next day Gabe was like "Uhhh, what are you all talking about?"

Actually, it was more that it was a wild misinterpretation of what they meant. What they meant was they weren't going to have exclusively single-player games. Portal 1 was exclusively single-player. Portal 2 was not. There's going to be some form of multiplayer, be it co-op or versus or some such, in their future games, but that does not mean that will be the default.
