View Full Version : Beyond the Labyrinth (Friggin' pretty 3DS game)
My (short) article on the screenshots if you feel like giving me some page views. (http://gamerlive.tv/article/tri-aces-beyond-labyrinth-best-looking-3ds-game-yet)
For those who don't, here are some of the screenshots.

It looks great, and the visual style reminds me of Shadow of the Colossus. No idea what the story is yet, or how it plays, but I dig the look. There's a teaser site that has some music, too. If this game is actually as good as it looks and sounds, I may be able to forgive Tri-Ace for Star Ocean 4 existing.
1. Cute blue-haired girl... check.
2. Huge ominous yet fascinating architecture... check.
3. Still managing to have non-brown colors... check.
4. For 3DS? Fucking check.
Depending on the reviews (it takes a lot to get me to try new IPs) I may just pick this up.

No release in North America; calling it now.

Probably, but I have my fingers crossed. The game's being published by Konami, so I can always hope. If nothing else, maybe Atlus will grab it.

With that out of the way, man, I wanna walk around that place. The partially open but still enclosed architecture seems uniquely suited to the 3D illusion, plus the colors are nice and the character is cute.
More stuff like this has to come out before I can get a 3DSi. That was me judging a game based solely on its epic graffix. Am I uncultured swine, now?

I dunno. Pretty doesn't really impress me that much unless it has good gameplay to go along with it.
Call me when we know what the actual game will be like.

Pretty is what sold me on Fragile, and I don't regret that, even if it wasn't that great a game. It tickled my fancy, with it's big ol' environs and interesting short stories. Sometimes, I just want to wander around an interesting world. It kept me in World of Bobcraft until I looked at everything.
Dammit phil_ you are such a killjoy. Probably right too.

I totally get that, and it's a HUGE part of the reason I've enjoyed the newest couple of Fallout games, and a good part of why I stuck with Rift as long as I did (all the way to max level, and I might go back someday and join a guild or something), but on the other hand games that I've found to have little else going for them just don't do it for me.
Like I had issues with the lack of difficulty and kind of loose controls on Shadow of Colossus and thus never beat it despite it being one of the most beautifully designed games I've ever played. I don't regret playing it, or even buying it, but at the same time I probably won't buy any other games in the future when the only praise I really hear about them is how beautiful the world and/or art direction is.
But I am in no way saying other people are wrong for feeling it's worth it regardless given a well enough designed world. Indeed, I'd still recommend SoC to other people whose tastes I feel more match what it had to offer than mine. And have.

Play Shadow of the Colossus on Hard, it's a lot more interesting. Also Hard Time Trials are next to impossible for me.
EDIT: As for this game Nintendo seems to be making pledges to not bring high-profile RPGs to the States so unless you live in Europe I'd expect not to see it.

Hahahaha why would PAL markets get it? We missed most of the DS' RPGs.
Hahahahaha..... shit now I'm sad. Fuck Nintendo.

Ok, what? Are you serious about this? What could Nintendo possibly get from doing that?

Magus is using NoA's recent support for the Wii, by which I mean there is none, as basis for the assumption that they'll do the same for the 3DS, which isn't a particularly safe assumption for a number of reasons. That said, I understand his concern and the concern itself is reasonable.

And specifically, the non-localization of Pandora's Tower, Xenoblade, and The Last Story.
Though, those 3 are coming to the PAL regions, and there's some rumor about them coming to America anyway, but that remains to be seen.

And lo, the curse of Terranigma was to be revisited upon the shores of the Americas, and there will be no place to be found for RPGs upon the systems of Nintendo, for a generation will experience only the bliss that is Ogre Battle 64 amidst the shame and defeat that is Aiden Chronicles: The First Mage. And even Radiant Dawn will not sate their desires nor their incredible thirst for the Third Mother nor the Story that is Last. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth in those days.
