Bastion is goddamn fantastic. The active narration, and the way the world just comes together around you make the game feel alive. Mechanically, it's a lot of fun, especially once you get a handle on your particular weapons of choice (musket/hammer for me). The environments are really nicely designed; very detailed, and they look wonderful.
I've beaten it twice now, and I love the story. I love the way it's told, and the voice actor doing the telling is fabulous. The story is integrated with the gameplay so well it's basically seamless. Music is great as well - I will definitely be getting the soundtrack.
I think that scene with Zulf in the last stage (you know the one) is, *I* think, one of the best executed bits in a videogame period.
Overall, I think the only thing in the game that disappointed me at all was that it clearly had a jump mechanic that worked well, but only utilized it in the final half of the final dungeon. It would have been nice to have access to that earlier.
Yup it's pretty amazing. I love it and the Zulf scene was amazing.
Here's the soundtrack. (http://supergiantgames.bandcamp.com/album/bastion-original-soundtrack)
You're welcome.

I'm pretty sure it's cheaper on Steam. Like, six dollars I think.
Just checked, and apparently it's on sale for five bucks on Steam, but I don't know how long that deal lasts so if you folks don't go buy it now I'll never forgive you.

For those of us who are technologically backwards (or, y'know, in college and broke) and don't have steam/current gen consoles, is there a way to check this game out?
Noooo?
I mean, it's on Steam or it's on Xbox Live Arcade. Those are the two venues where it is being sold as far as I know and I'm really not sure where else you'd expect it to be sold or why Steam would at any point prove restrictive?

Personally, I find Steam annoying as fuck for a million little reasons, so I can totally understand someone wanting a non-Steam way to play this.

Xbox Live is kind of restrictive. You would need an Xbox along with a Gold subscription so yeah...
It would probably be great if they sold the game on Amazon among a few other places.

You don't need a Gold subscription to buy games on Xbox Live. You just need one to play multiplayer.
Yeah, I've never needed a Gold subscription to buy anything. Also, I never said Xbox Live Arcade wasn't restrictive I said I didn't think Steam was restrictive.

I went ahead and went to the bandcamp link and I've gotta say the soundtrack reminds me of Firefly in quite a few places. Color me interested.

Out of the Summer of Arcade 360 games, this is my favourite. Worth cost of admission.

Oh nice, only the soundtrack is on sale now. I guess I'll make it part of the casualties of the holiday sale later.

I enjoyed the demo quite a bit, but I probably won't pick it up till next month. I spent the bulk of my fun money budget on Deus Ex: HR and booze for this month and next.
The only hold ups I have are that I'd love to play with a controller, but I don't own a 360 nor do I want to buy a 360 controller. I have an old PS2 to USB converter that works fine for me, but it looks like without an emulator I'm out of luck for using that. And that kinda crap has irked me since I bought ARES. Is it really that hard for developers to map keys to a gamepad that they need to standardize it?
Even with that, the game looks great and the keyboard is functional to use. Worst case, I'll wait for it to go on sale sometime. But everything I've seen and heard (like the soundtrack) about the game is amazing.

You can always use something like Joytokey or Xpadder if you wanna use a controlpad.
Is there a secret ending I can get where this game's narrator comes to my house and reads me bedtime stories every night?

hahaha
I heard the voice was pretty good. That definitely sounds like a confirmation.
