View Full Version : Ubisoft lies about its DRM, Steam offers refunds
Source (http://lo-ping.org/2011/08/18/steam-offering-refund-for-ever-sold-copy-of-from-dust/)
So basically what happened is Ubisoft said you didn't need to constantly be connected to the internet to play From Dust so people would think, "Cool, no DRM worries." What they didn't say was that apparently there is still DRM, and it makes you have to be connected to the internet and log into a service to play the game.
In response, Steam is apparently refunding purchases of the game.
Haha fuckin' Ubisoft.

I'm not refunding it, DRM is not as bad as usual and it is still a fun game, despite being locked at 30 FPS for some fucking reason.
None of that are deal breakers though when I am giving money to the guy who made "Another World" and throwing a big ball of lava on stupid tribesmen.

I'm glad I didn't buy. I hate buying games that require an internet connection, but what I hate more is open and blatant dishonesty regarding the product I'm paying for. :/

Feeling less bad about buying the 360 version.

Is it bad that now I wish I had bought it yesterday, gotten the TF2 hat, and learned about the refund today?

A bit dickish, yes.
Wanting to mess with a company that is actively deceptive towards its customers is dickish?

"An eye for an eye and the whole world's blind."
I do not think getting a Team Fortress hat is equivalent to lying to an entire consumer base.

Well, see, I actually was planning on buying From Dust. I'd heard it was pretty good, and, you know, hat.
Except, last night, I realized I'd missed my window of opportunity, and decided "eh, I'll buy it some other time, when I feel like it/have a compy that can run it properly"
So now I hear about all this, and my first thought is "aw man. Should have gone for it when I had the chance. It would've been a refund and a free hat."
So, it's not that I never planned to get it, it's more like I wish I had gotten it when I first thought about it, and joined the ranks of happy Demomen.
It's too bad about this, though. It sounded like such a good game.

This is my exact thought process... Damn...
