In Sora’s episode, you start in Traverse town. Sora calls for Riku, but finds Neku instead who is hanging from a roof. He jumps down and shows Sora the number on his hand and mentions he needs a partner to play the Reapers’ game with.

Considering the premise of Kingdom Hearts seems to be mashing universes together and TWEWY is made by the same developer I see nothing but good from this.

I can just imagine that Non ran out the door as soon as he saw "The World---" before even seeing Kingdom Hearts...

...So this is for the 3DS, right?

...And I guess you'll probably only have Neku for a short period, like, a chapter or something?

...

Good enough. How much does the 3DS cost again, and when is this getting released in NA?

I'm confused, you like The World Ends with You, they will probably rape the characters from it, why are you excited?

Don't be silly. The extended Neku/Sora make-out scene will be entirely consensual ;) . (It's the only way they can sell it to America's growing population of teenage yaoi enthusiasts and slashfic writers.)

Well, Magus, Neku's already been seen in the TGS demo. (http://www.1up.com/previews/kingdom-hearts-3d-tgs-hands-on) Like, an entire cutscene and some playtime and such.

Basically, he shows up, after a battle with some "Dream Eaters", (which he thinks are more Noise) reveals to Sora that he's got a timer, and nearly recruits Sora as his partner before deciding against it and taking off. Sora chases after him, because he's kinda concerned about the fact that Neku's apparently got 43 minutes to live if he can't fulfill his mission.

Everything I've heard so far sounds like Neku's, well, himself. Normal. Not-KHII-Setzer. You know.

At least Square had the clarity to mock the whole Setzer fiasco when they made Dissidia. My personal canon is that Setzer acted the way he did because DIZ wrote that into the program to get Roxas's attention pointed anywhere but towards Axel.

edit: Oh, and his design's the same (http://twitpic.com/6l2smw) as in TWEWY.

"rape": too serious a word for KH character discussion, y/y?

Yes. Unfortunately, most people don't seem to get that it's too serious a word for 90% of the conversations it's used it.

When not to use: Like, just don't do it.

Right. Let's just talk about the game instead, since it looks like Neku made the transition between games pretty much unscathed.

If Neku's playing the Reaper's Game in the Taverse Town Dream World Thing... I wonder what that means for Sora, since he's able to see and talk to him. It could be that he's alive, just able to see the dead, kinda like what Kariya thought was going on with Joshua in the second week...

That, or the Reaper's Game in Kingdom Hearts doesn't involve the dead, for some crazy reason.

It gives me the opportunity to buy the game, potentially reinforcing the idea to S-E that TWEWY actually does have a fanbase. Then, they might get onboard with a sequel, or at least more cameos.

It's a long shot, but every bit counts, right?

... When has Wada ever cared about Square's fans?

FF 14 was a testament to that.

Was not the game so lauded as an MMO that he had to put it up for free instead of pushing for a subscription service?

Equating "makes a bad game" with the sensationalist nonsense you posted is why I facepalm.

Fuck, if you're using FFXIV as evidence they don't care about their fans, wouldn't deciding against charging for it while they fix it be a pretty damn big counterpoint?

Kerensky287

I think that they care about their fans because fans = money. Same reason they're making FF13-2 with so many changes due to feedback. Same reason they're putting Neku in Kingdom Hearts 3D.

Hell, they had to make FF14 free because that way people would buy it, and maybe forgive them a little for screwing the pooch so bad.

He's actually changed his stance on gaming from what I knew before (http://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/37251/TGS_Square_Enixs_Wada_On_The_First_Tide_Of_The_Gam ing_Revolution.php).

Before, Wada was pushing for games to be very heavily influenced by movies, which was the wrong tact IMO. But then, this was when there was a huge push for cinematic movies such as Metal Gear Solid 4.

I know that his team seems to be finding inspiration from Call of Duty (http://www.techdigest.tv/2010/02/final_fantasy_x_1.html) as well as Mass Effect to figure out what's going on with consumer demands. I'm glad that he's progressed from what I used to know, so I retract that statement.

I still don't see how that equals "doesn't care about fans," especially within the context of FFXIV...

IDK I mean... It's FF14.

It's a pretty fair call.

...Like at some point when you put so much work into something so terrible, you just objectively hate other people, and want them to be unhappy.

It is on the 3DS. There will be this, probably a Vita game following it, and then Kingdom Hearts game wherein Ansem dies forever and ever.

Fifthfiend
09-16-2011, 02:38 PM
But so that last one is gonna be on a console right, that's the actually real Kingdom Hearts game?

Kim
09-16-2011, 02:51 PM
Well they're all real. (Except Numbery Days)

That said, yes it will be on console.

I think the only ones you're really fine ignoring are Numbery Days and RE:coded. The latter is a decent game, but I don't feel like it has major contributions to the KH franchise that can't be gleaned elsewhere.

I'd say Birth by Sleep is as good as the console KH games, more or less. The same will probably be true of Kingdom Hearts 3D.

I dunno, the line between sequels is getting kind of blurred. Like it was hard to see Dragon Quest IX as a true sequel because it was on the DS and it seemed like a bit of a big step back in graphics, story and gameplay versus VIII, but then again it was pretty close to a full-on console game, since the DS is so advanced. And now they're doing X on it (I think, that's not hthe one they're doing on Wii, is it?)

And yeah, I did rethink my "Square rapes its franchises and fans" position, that is pretty harsh and demeans the severity and trauma of rape.

It's more like they murder my hopes and dreams, or steal my childhood memories. It's more like they're murderous thieves, like they murdered my family in a home invasion, if my family was the Final Fantasy franchise and my home was the videogame industry. I think that's more accurate.

WiiU

I'm pretty sure the only good thing about the WiiU is that every time I hear the name it makes me think of Kung Pow (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JElywbkSbY).

But it's got so much potential. Big N doesn't even have to worry too much about break the graphics barrier since it's barely even possible anymore and most studios refuse to push graphics any farther anyway since what we have now is damn near good enough and it costing them more money then it's worth.

That just leaves good games which big N is getting this time around and the U-pad not sucking on launch (which it might unfortunately).

Oh, NPF.

You want Re:coded for the secret ending video. Also, it is a decent game, and well worth a look. You don't NEED it... but it's definitely fun.

A transcript of the trailer's dialogue (http://sqex.wordpress.com/2011/09/17/kh3d-trailer-impression/)

Apparently, Neku considers Noise and Dream Eaters to be different things, and Sora's reputation precedes him. All in all, Neku seems to be pretty much the exact character, lifted wholesale and untouched from TWEWY. A step up from what happened to Setzer, to be sure.

So, it's been months, and a lot of info has dropped since thin, while this thread appears to have stopped altogether.

Short version: There are good and bad versions of Dream Eaters (Spirits and Nightmares), everyone except for the Reapers and Angels from TWEWY are in Traverse Town, Xehanort and Vanitas show up, the Mysterious Figure (read: black-cloaked ridiculously overpowered bonus boss from Birth By Sleep) is going to be explained, there is a 3 Musketeers world, Pinnochio World, and a Fantasia world.

And there is also http://gematsu.com/gallery/albums/kingdom-hearts-3d-dream-drop-distance/january-24-2012/Kingdom-Hearts-3D-Dream-Drop-Distance_2012_01-24-12_010.jpg

everyone except for the Reapers and Angels from TWEWY are in Traverse Town,

So no Minamoto, Uzuki or Kariya? Lame.

And presumably no BIG SPOILERS Joshua or Hanekoma either? Or do they not count as angels or reapers being God and the Devil? Shit that rules out all the other really good characters too. The best characters were the reapers.

Locke cole
01-25-2012, 03:46 AM
No, Joshua's in and he's pretty much the same as he's always been. Doling out cryptic advice and probably bein' a real dick in the parts of the game we haven't seen yet.

I can't completely rule out Hanekoma either, considering that there's CAT graffiti in one of Traverse Town's new districts.

In truth, I said "Reapers" so as to not rule either of them out, though Hanekoma has yet to be seen. If he shows, I will retract the "or angels" comment, of course.

Of course someone put that Timer on Neku. If it's not a Reaper, that just raises further questions.

So here's a recent interview with Nomura. (http://www.khinsider.com/content/view/2148/338/)

—In Fantasia as well as other worlds, a golden eyed person wearing a black coat appears, who is he?

Nomura: He is the mysterious man who appeared in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix as a boss who manipulated time. Just who he is will be told in KH3D. Everywhere he goes, a few people of the darkness turn up, like how Vanitas came out in the trailer.

What this means is that the guy who shows up with Vanitas in the trailer isn't actually youing Master Xehanort, though they look alike. It's just the Mysterious Figure. Xehanort hasn't actually appeared, except in FMVs in the trailers. Only Heartless!Ansem and Xemnas have appeared in in-game footage.

Also, Nomura says in the interview that the Reapers don't appear, so sadly there won't be Uzuki or Minamimoto.
