Well, we knew this day was coming. But seriously, I'm not at all surprised about it. The fact that he has more games coming and we know he'll be alright in terms of his financial proceedings tells me MC will do just fine without him while he makes other games.

Personally after most of the bugs are worked out (I believe removing them all is impossible) I'd be fine if work on minecraft completely stopped and leave new content to modders. Certainly satisfied with my 20 dollar purchase

Good.

Seriously, Notch had an awesome idea and I love minecraft to death, but all the recent changes have been like shittier versions of existing mods. I'm pretty glad he's stepping down and I'm looking forward to seeing what else comes of minecraft.

Personally I've been playing technic pack lately and nnnnngh its amazing.

How long 'til we have glitch boosters back?

due to the fact that the collide box has been shrunk so that it doesn't interfear with side carts (and walls) it's almost impossible to bring those back

it is probably the best mod pack I have ever seen. though I understand there is some controversy about it, like not getting permissions or something.

?

Isn't Mojang like all about people modding minecraft? They keep talking about adding actual support for mods.

The controversy was that the mod maker feels he is updating minecraft better then notch.
Or otherwise known as Ego inflation.

Ehh, with Jen and co running the MC boat better than he did it can only mean good things, I say.

Well, they didn't get permission from anyone to include their Mod in the pack, because Goons will be Goons, but they gave everyone credit for their work. A small stink was raised by Flowerchild, of the Better Than Wolves mod, because he's a giant manchild, and He raised such a huge deal over it they didn't donate a single dime to him while flooding the other mod creators with cash.

That was pretty much the end of the problem for everyone except Flowerchild. They took BTW out anyway, because it was meh compared to the other mods and just taking up space, and moved on. Flowerchild just recently moved away from the MC Forge API because of a stink with one of the other Forge founders, and he has now started to try and make his mod incompatible with any other mods.

that answers alot. I wondered both how they got BTW when he was so against it being in mod packs, but also didn't get why some others would have had issue (heck some openly said they dont care). Turns out he did, they didn't.

But I do wonder if thats changed. Since it sounded like he was working with some of the modders now.

Back on topic, I read the post about Notch stepping down and was surprised with how many people were upset. They make it sound like without notch directly overseeing things that things will be ruined. Specifically removing dragons, and the idea that they'd remove something is just silly.

I just want the following promises to be implemented:

1. Finite Maps ala Indev.
2. Different World types ala, Floating or Hell in Indev
3. The Dungeons and Levers mode.
4. The zombie siege mode.
5. Actual Magic, like was promised. I Would be cool with Wands and such, but I want magic missile dammit.

I get all but this one
1. Finite Maps ala Indev.

why do you want finite maps?

Well, in their defense, the mod makers (the technic pack ones specifically) completely are updating minecraft better than notch. Technic pack is a thousand times better than vanilla MC.

Don't forget that the Millenaire mod was doing NPC villages for a long time before they became official. With working AI and different civilization types even.

technically he didn't millenaire is in technic pack too. Actually I think finite water and aether are the only well known mods that aren't in there

Umm...No they aren't. There are tons more. All of the yogbox, for instance.

And man, the npc villages in vanilla minecraft are fucking terrible. They don't even do anything, and now MC 1.0 has launched and it still has those terrible-ass squidward villagers. I really hoped those were just a placeholder, but nope.

Millenaire is ballin', though.

Red Power is where it's at.

The fuss with Flowerchild and the Redpower Dev Girl (and co-founder of Forge) is that she implimented a couple of blocks that fufil some of the functions of a few of his blocks, but they do it better and more intuitivly.

Yep.
And suddenly Forge is bloatware, RedPower is a mod that doesn't jive with the feel of Minecraft and Better Than Wolves so you're really a terrorist if you even consider using it and Eloraam (RedPower's developer) is a big poopy-face.

I mean, I'm not gonna say I told you so, but I think I've been one of the first here to see what a childish asshole FlowerChild is.

Did you know he even tried to have a perfectly valid mod removed from the Minecraft Forums and labelled as a virus or malware? Simply because it was incompatible with Better Than Wolves?

Yeah.

In his defence, Better Than Wolves DOES add a lot of good stuff. I'm just not certain it's all better than wolves to warrant the name.

Personal opinion. I feel that other then a few things vanilla minecraft is just where it needs to be. Some of those mods can make things to complicated to fast. Minecraft has the whole "its simple so you can complicate" it mentality to it. I do wish jeb would finish up potions and give some things thefeatures they promised but thats game development for you. otherwise its at a nice place. And hopefully scrolls will be good.

why do you want finite maps?

A few reasons, performance on crappy computers being chief among them. I also like the idea of a finite map as a way to spawn a smaller map with a specific biome or two. Maybe have the small maps be 1 biome, the medium be 2-3, and the large be 4-5.

the yogbox isn't a mod, its another mod pack and one that contains many of the same mods. Besides I wasn't saying they had all the mods, but all the really well known ones, equivalent exchange, buildcraft, industrialcraft, mo creatures, etc. are in there.

Though fun fact, it seems the two mod packs openly support each other. Yogscast has lots of videos about it, and technic even told people to download yogbox since they are nowhere near done.

do the villages do anything?

But personally I am not big on villages. They are abit of a strain on the system for one. They dont add much to me. If its for trading EE handles that, and if I want interactivity I can just hop online. Thats just me though, and sure people with no multiplayer or mods villages must be nice, but for me they are rather superfluous

I didn't say it was a mod. I said all of it. All of the mods in it.

Yogbox and technic pack have precisely three mods in common, only one of which is present in the current version of technic. And there are many well known mods that are in neither of them.

Yeah, Simon and Lewis are orignally from the SA Forums WoW guild, and started the Yogscast as a way to show off Goon-Raid videos and antics.
