You can definitely see the Minecraft influence in the overall environments and the talk about procedurally generated regions, but other than that I don't think there's enough similarity to dismiss it as a simple ripoff (like some people are already doing). If anything, it looks like an upgraded, free-roaming variation of 3D Dot Game Heroes (http://youtu.be/hoFYEtj2tDw). In any case, I think it looks like a fun side-title. What about you guys?

Looks nice but dang that combat seems...Flimsy.

It's like Tribes: Ascend, but everyone's melee and made of cubes!

I would waste time playing this. It fulfills my need to be surrounded by and kill cute things while being cute. I wasn't totally sold until the second video, when purple dude did a somersault. I mean, I know it's a roll after finishing the video, but that doesn't make it not also a somersault.

Like, the combat looks really simplistic, and he damn well better program in some quests other than "I vant you to keel seex snow moose," but this could be the answer to the prayers of those on NPF who haven't given up hope on something like that NPF MUD from so long ago. As in, running around wrecking shit for no reason and accomplishing nothing with these fine people.

If I can make my own voxel man, though. Man. Oh man, I'd consider getting a real computer with windows on it to play that. Site says it'll have "player customization" and planned Mac support. That's a good start.

I'm hoping he can pin down a release date soon, or at least a time he can get something like an alpha or beta set up.

So, here's a recent video demonstrating a new combat system, in that you flail wildly for a time then unleash a special move:

But I'm not posting it because it shows Wollay is at least thinking of making combat more complex than, "Get close and hope you win." No, it's because of how cute the elf looks when it swims thirty seconds in.

So, here's a recent video demonstrating a new combat system, in that you attack when you see an opening and try to avoid counter-attacks instead of flailing wildly for a time then unleashing a special move:

I'm posting it (and necroing this thread) because it shows Wollay has made combat more complex than "Get close and hope you win." Also, because Cubeworld is now randomly generated Monster Hunter Lite. Blog link for slightly more detail. (http://wollay.blogspot.com/2012/03/new-cube-world-video-monsters.html)

I'd be more interested in this if ripped off minecraft more tbh.

Like if you're gonna procedurally generate a world outta blocks then give me a way to dig it up and build stuff out of it.

You can almost definitely build weapons and armor. Houses are big, functional chunks (walls, roofs, doors). Weapons are customized by adding voxels to the base model.

But I think the focus is on running around questing. There are some twitpics that look promising; dungeons probably are no longer a series of square rooms mashed together. Still nothing on, say, the Mine of Moria I saw on the Minecrafts.

Monster Hunter Lite. Very lite. Instant turning, after all.

Am I the only one who still thinks there's waaaay too much sliding around? Like, I'm okay with knockbacks and such, but everything just slides all over the place!

Am I the only one who still thinks there's waaaay too much sliding around? Like, I'm okay with knockbacks and such, but everything just slides all over the place!I think, if I were making a game where you wander around a randomly generated fantasy world killing everything that lives there, I'd want to give my dude and the dues he's killing a greater sense of weight. Wollay seems to prefer greased balloons.

Like, even in a cartoon world, things can feel like they have substance. Without that substance, it's like you're just moving a camera, not playing a dude. So, I agree in that the game would be better if there was more friction between critters, their environment, and each other. I also thought the game would be better if combat stopped being "Flail wildly until you or they are dead," so here's hoping.

And no panic dive. How am I supposed to survive without that? :ohdear:

The sliding around looked tolerable, but what do I know? I hunt Barioths for fun.

Like I don't wanna build "a house" I just want a way to pick up those blocks that everything is made out of and then rearrange them so that they then make up other, new stuff in keeping with my aesthetic sensibilities and functional priorities.

Clearly, you need a switch axe and evasion +1.

( Also of note, man, there are people who play monster hunter here, for reals? Why did my livestream never get viewers? D: )

See, I take some issue with the "Minecraft" in the title. It's Zelda + Voxels, it has nothing to do with Minecraft other than the cube shapes and that falls under Voxel.

Having it compared to something it just absolutly isn't devalues the work cause it is being held up to something it was never meant to be.

If I reset to baseline, minecraft-free expectations, it looks like a fun, moderately interesting little game, yeah.

(that would totally be improved by a building/mining system)

Yeah, even some minor resource gathering and usage system for blocks would be nifty

Zelda + Voxels + all of the goddamn grease in the world smeared on all of the goddamn balloons in the world + actually cool customization system seems like a better description, though!

Never heard about it, but I rarely browse all threads anyway.

(Also, +2 evasion and GS is how I roll. Fire vulnerability can't kill you if you're too fast to burn.)

That and I'm too insane and too stylish to take off my winter warrior princess gear just because Rathalos wants to fly around shooting fireballs for six hours.

No problem, just remind me to get Tri as soon as I get some money :P. Also, those videos make me want that game even more :3. I love sandbox-y games where I can do shenanigans whenever I want.

( Also of note, man, there are people who play monster hunter here, for reals? Why did my livestream never get viewers? D: )I don't play Monster Hunter. It took me a year to hit High Rank in Tri, and I never progressed further than that. I am a quitter and a shame to the hunters' guild.
Yeah, even some minor resource gathering and usage system for blocks would be niftyThere is minor resource gathering in that you gather mushrooms and stuff for health and you gather cubes to slap on your weapons and armor to make them stronger and cooler looking. It's just limited to equipment customization for now (most likely forever).
