View Full Version : Making a case for new games on NPF Steam Night

Sometimes is a good thing to just fresh'n up and get some new game in the mix.

So, i'm here to make a case for one that seems like it will be fun, and also making room for you guys to present new games the NPF community could enjoy playing it together.

So, my first suggestion here is Age of Chivalry on Steam.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/17510?l=english

It's free, you just need to have an SDK Steam game on your system (It's a mod) , so if you have Portal, Counter Strike, Half Life or Left 4 Dead you can play this...

Essentially it's a Medieval Mod for Counter Strike... you play Mission Based sieges to castles and villages as 2 opposing teams. Damage tends to the "realistic" so just a couple of blows can kill you off. You can Throw Daggers, use broad Swords and Axes or a Bow and Arrow to kill off your enemies.

So it's a good way for people here to literally go Medieval on each other which i think would be great fun!

Not only that, but this MOD is turning into a Full fledge game called CHIVALRY: MEDIEVAL COMBAT which is in Alpha testing right now, so it's coming... you can consider this some praticing on the concept then.

Soooooooooooooooooo anyone up for it? Other ideas?

i would totally play Moonbase Alpha with a NPF Team.

Hell, i would record it if people allowed it!

OK, since the NPF Steam Nights work in a special way (i.e. no one starts a game most of the time) I'll just start the game as soon as people get in the chat, others will surely follow :3

I would say Tribes:Ascend, but it has been a bit...unruly lately.

I said a billion times Killing Floor and I yell at everyone to get it when it is on sale.

I wish more of you guys had Civ4: Beyond the Sword, or even Civ5 cause a free for all in that with a good chunk of people is DRENCHED IN THE BLOOD OF BETRAYED ALLIES I mean full of reasonable Diplomacy.

I'll consider Age of Chivalry. I'll propably get Killing Floor next time it's on sale. And I tell you all to friggin' play DEFCON with me. Also if you have the money, you could do worse than PAYDAY: The Heist, atleast if it's on sale.

e: Also, Orcs must Die 3€ right now, should I get it?

I found Killing Floor to be boring as hell but that might just be me being a casual. I was also drunk that night so who knows

I'm downloading Moonbase Alpha even though i know shit about it

Orcs Must Die is a pretty damn fun tower defense game. The only problem is that it's strictly singe player, and it would be 1000 times more fun if you could have a group of friends building elaborate Orc death traps.

The only way to play Moonbase Alpha is with text-to-speech on server-wide.

Bells

a server side voice chat client is not very problematic to set up. It's annoying, sure... but can be done with little effort.

No, not voice chat. Text-to-speech. It's built into the game. It is the only way to play.

Hm... I spent quite a bit of time on Mount&Blade: Warband multplayer mods (about 800+ hours or so I think) So here are the mods I suggest to at least try if you have to get a start on Warband multplayer mods:

Mount& Musket : http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,179.0.html , more of a event-base extravaganza, i.e. the North American Public linebattle.

The Deluge: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,274.0.html , invasion or wave-base gameplay is most common. Also, the most weird and janky to run due to needing to use a expanded-script exe.

Persistent multplayer mods:
CRPG: http://www.c-rpg.net/
Nord Invasion: http://www.nordinvasion.com/

*Sort of empty public play mods*
Mount&Gladius: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,268.0.html
Secession: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,240.0.html
1812-1815 : http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/board,279.0.html , the multiplayer is similar to Mount&Musket I think.

We tried playing Civ4 before. We didn't get very far due to confusion. We don't tend to have much luck with any TBS games really. And unfortunately my Steam account is lost to me, so I can't use steam at all.

I wish more people were on psn.

^^^This^^^

We can make our own private 5v5 games, so if we get enough people you only have to worry about being stomped by Lazy and I (and maybe Al, I guess :P) instead of the dozens of premade stomp teams that patrol the quickmatch queue like wolves.

Also it doesn't have to be 5v5, we can have 3v3, 4v4, 8v2 (which will result in either mine and Lazy's ego being shattered or boosted), whatever. So long as the total number of players doesn't exceed 10.

lazy man
03-14-2012, 11:13 AM
Well I don't think we could do an 8v2, considering the limitations of the game right now. Although we could easily do a 5v2. I think. Haven't done practice games yet so I'm not completely sure how the team building works >_>

But yes, the game is fun. Hard to get into, but if we're doing practice matches then it doesn't really count towards your record and those who have played already can teach new people the ropes (or just direct you to the Uber forums where much more in-depth guides exist).

As for other games... I have Killing Floor, although I find that to be a lot easier with voice communication (just sayin'). Moonbase Alpha is an option if only because it's free.

Anything else... well, I can't really spend money right now. I'm too poor and in debt to even think about it for a loooooong time.

Arcanum
03-14-2012, 11:37 AM
Well whoever hosts the practice game can change the little color squares next to player names. And you can change the squares so there are any combination of blue and orange, even horribly unbalanced combinations. Plus I was in a glitched game two or three weeks ago where it was a 6v4. So I'm pretty sure it's possible.

lazy man
03-14-2012, 12:23 PM
Well I just confirmed that this can be done (although I can't find the video I wanted of an accidental 10v0 game), so... WOOHOO!

Snake, TBS games are fun. But they're just not for NPF Steam Game Nights.

From my (Probably dated) experance, they are about fast pacing, some silliness, and probably more then a bit of drinking.

TBS is ok, but takes a long time. I'm gonna go out on a (broken) limb here and risk a multiplayer game with you if you have Civ 5. Just check the NPF steam group and I should be on there.

Ramary
03-15-2012, 06:04 PM
Total War is a 2 person tango, so I did not suggest that.

Yes, TBS can take AGES but that is what being able to save them is for. Also ping issues don't really exist besides just flat out disconnections since you don't need FAST REFLEXES for Civ.

(also stop ignoring me snake, I brought up BTS first.)

Solid Snake
03-15-2012, 06:25 PM
First: I don't own Civ 5. General consensus from fellow Civ players is that it's a worse game in nearly every respect compared with Civ 4. I don't know for sure whether that's true or not, but even if I've been lied to and Civ 5 is ballin', I spent all my vidjagames money on ME3 and Crusader Kings II this semester.

Total War is a two-person tango but consider this an invitation to play two-player Total War someday with me if you'd like because that series is fuckin' aces.
That applies to everyone. All of you. Pick up cheap Total War games and play against me POST FUCKING HASTE plz k thx.

Finally, Crusader Kings II accommodates twenty-four players or some ridiculous shit and it's not even turn-based. There's always shit to do in that game. Y'all need to pick it up and play it with me because it's the best strategy game released in a LONG time.

Also, looking for folks who play ME3 multi on Origin who just want to, like, let me tag along and suck for a few multi missions so that I can get my War Asset score high enough to finish this lousy single-player campaign

On the other hand, if there were some way people like me could be like "Look out behind you! Behind yooouuu!" then it would be more like a virtual party couch, which is more acceptable.

Not gonna happen either way, nor does it need to, but it is an interesting idea.
