The survival horror market is too small for Resident Evil, Capcom has admitted.
That's why the series has, and will continue, to branch out into more action-oriented areas, Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata told Gamasutra.
"Especially for the North American market, I think the series needs to head in that [action-oriented] direction," Kawata said. "[Resident Evil's primary games] need to be an extension of the changes made in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5.
"RE4 started in that direction, and RE5 kept going in that direction. And I think that especially for the North American market, we need to keep going in that direction, and take that a step further. And that's exactly one of the reasons that [3DS game] Revelations is the way it is."
Seriously, Capcom is being idiotic in thinking that everything has to be similar to CoD.
Whatever happened to the innovations that came from trying something new? Capcom is looking backwards and every fan of survival horror suffers. You thought you liked RE6? Ha ha ha, jokes on you. You're going to forever be playing Call of Duty Zombie edition. And we have Capcom to thank for it.

And Operation: Raccoon City was not a huge tip off to this already?
Or maybe Capcom being easily the worst fucking Japanese game company right now?
I am not surprised at all at their idiocy/evil anymore.
The real sad thing is that I can't say "Go play Silent Hill" since Konami is not much better with that lately ether. I guess your only option left is Amnesia.

...since when has Resident Evil ever been a horror series in anything but name? They have some individually scary moments, but overall, they've always been the videogame equivalent of a B-movie, with the addition of some pretty mediocre gameplay.
I'm really not sorry to see the series get taken farther in the RE4 vein, where it actually was somewhat fun to play the game.

I find this interesting, because they basically ran off Inafune because he was saying they needed to take some pages from western game development and take some chances, and not make the same shitty game over and over.
Now they are taking pages from western game development. Too bad they are the pages about making the same shitty games over and over.
A better subtitle would probably be: "Capcom: Totally Missing the Point."

I miss the old Capcom... They weren't quite this terrible.
And I really miss Megaman. :( All I got now are rom hacks and average quality fan games.

Wah, I miss the Survival Horror Games like Clock Tower, which had less fighting and more hiding. Really, whats to be scared of when I can just shoot my way out of everything?
Every attempt by Capcom to westernize has failed miserable and resulted in clunky, unfun games, even when Inafune was still there. This is because they don't have the same experience making western-focused games that western devs do. Thus Capcom hands their franchises off to western devs, who have a better concept of western game design but have no idea how to handle Capcom franchises.
Westernization - It makes everything shitty forever.

I don't see why they didn't just make new western themed IPs.
It shouldn't cost them anymore money then just changing a current IP completely. Unless I'm missing something?
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for trying new things with your current IPs but atleast keep the core feel of your IPs intact.
Eh, 4KIDS isn't so much an issue of westernization as it is an example of dumbing things down for younger audience, which is its own thing really.

Because game development is already an expensive, high-risk thing, so Westernizating existing franchises seems safer than coming up with new ones.
That in mind, I'd say Dead Rising is an example of Capcom trying to make an original, western-aimed IP.

You know, the Video Game industry could use another crash....there are so many cancerous business practices around right now that is bound to fall apart eventually.
Capcom is the Devil of crappy DLC practices and franchise murder.

I would like to point out that, while Tales of Graces f is a pretty good game, if you were to purchase all of the DLC for the game you would spend $95+
Also, EA is probably the Satan of the DLC hell-scape. When you are cutting out crucial parts of a game's story to sell for extra cash...

... you probably have crossed some creative moral event horizon.

It's both really depressing and really hilarious to see companies like Capcom try and get "lightning in a bottle" like those Call of Duty sales.
Hilarious because of all the terribad ideas they make, depressing because said ideas involve stuff that... well, was sorta not-bad/good in the first place.
In regards to Westernization... they should really just put their own spin on stuff. I mean, if a cartoony FPS like TF2 is enjoyed by tons o' people even before it went free-to-play, why not take Mega Man's(as in, pre-parody beer belly) aesthetics and art design and make an FPS out of it?
Worked for Nintendo and Metroid Prime.

Funny that you mentioned that. Capcom beat EA to that whole ending as DLC thing. (http://www.shacknews.com/article/73055/asuras-wrath-true-ending-dlc-dated-priced)

They probably want to make CoD clones because CoD titles have now routinely make BILLIONS of dollars.
Fuck originality, honestly. BILLIONS.
On that note, where's my Dead Rising 3, Capcom? They handed it over to Blue Castle Games and that worked REALLY well (minus Case Zero).

Yeah but you can't just copy a formula and expect it to magically make you the same amount of money. That has failed numerous times as well. Why is someone going to play RE6 over say, Left 4 Dead 3? Dead Island 2? etc.
