Welcome to the Playstation family Azisien.
I think I'll take you up on Wipeout. I think Shank 2 will sate my hunger for side-scrolling action, so no to Blood Reign Betrayal.
Castlevania HD is fucking awesome, and I love it, but I already own it on Xbox 360 and have played it to death (50+ hours).
Infamous I can get on disc, so no need to purchase from the store. Eyes glazing over the rest.
SotC
Legend of Mana
Beat SotC on PS2.
SOLD on Legend of Mana!

Glad to be of help. I might check out Shank 2 myself. I'm a big fan of 2d Side Scrollers.
EDIT: Check out God Hand if you haven't already. It's just all kinds of fantastic.

Also picked up Romance of the 7 Kingdoms IV because the cover looked pretty.
I was browsing the PSN exclusives (since I probably haven't played near any of them, except...Flower?)
Dead Nation
Pixeljunk Shooter 1/2
Fat Princess
Journey
Anybody recommend the above?
And no I'm not fucking ever paying money for Noby Noby Boy.

I'd recommend Prototype but you have the disc argument and then Walmart's are offering it free with Prototype 2 when you buy it from them when it comes out on the 24th.
Scott Pilgrim versus the World is a pretty fun fighting game.

Well, for PSone Classics, I would say Suikoden, Breath of Fire 4, Wild Arms, and Front Mission 3. Just to give you a few that are probably off the beaten Final Fantasy path.
As far as PSOne RPGs go, you can't really go wrong. The PSOne Classics' rpg section read like a highlights album (With some cases of egregious and heartbreaking overlooking of great games by someone. WHY YOU NO PUT SUIKODEN II ON THE PSN KONAMI?)
inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood is okay if you want more inFAMOUS 2. WITH VAMPIRES. I don't think it was released on disc, since it is basically DLC.
PixelJunk anything is a pretty safe bet.
The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection. Buy it. On Disc even.
Re-recommending Odin Sphere. That game is GORGEOUS.
I've heard good things about Journey.

I hear that Castlevania: Harmony of Despair is pretty good. It's an online multiplayer Castlevania where you play as one of any number of protagonists from across the entire series. There is extremely little story. It's really just an excuse to go bopping around various chapters based off the more iconic bits from the previous games.
And yes, it does lead to a weird time-paradoxy thing where Soma Cruz can wind up with a Dracula soul in his arsenal.
Apparently, there's some grind, though. Probably less if you don't play as Soma.

Get Journey. It's short, but beautiful and amazing and the multiplayer component is brilliant.

I agree with everything you said. Most of my 50+ hours were as Soma.
Will ponder these recommendations of the Pixeljunks and the Journey. I checked some reviews for Dead Nation and am less enthusiastic now.

Oh right, PS One classics. I'll just immediately start off with the original Crash Bandicoot and Spyro games if you're inclined toward what was the gold of platformers back in the polygon era. Also Ape Escape is pretty boss if they have that in the store. Nothing else really stands out for me beyond that, since anything else I played on my original Playstation wasn't really worth remembering (no I didn't play MGS, but if I did I doubt I wouldn't be mentioning it).

Persona 3: FES was just released on PSN yesterday. Mighty fine jRPG. I would buy it myself, but a double whammy of Atlus and Sony of Europe means that it will never see light of day in the UK.

You might want to do a bit of research to see if it is possible, BUT if you make a US PSN account with a US address (Google a street in the US) you should be able to download and play anything from the US part of the PSN.
I do know that this used to work because a friend of mine got Vagrant Story off the Euro PSN before it was released in the US PSN, and I have downloaded things from the Japanese PSN myself.
I don't see why this changed, unless the PS2 Classics work differently or they region locked the PS3 with a patch.

If you're looking for a downloadable title I just picked up Scarygirl on steam, and I'm pining the use of a control for this platformer. The mechanics seems solid enough to make a good platform out of it with an interesting art style and story-book-y game, but the controls are plainly made for a controller so using A-S-D-F-R-LSHIFT-SPACE and Arrow Keys for everything is taking some getting used to. But I'm fairly confident I'll have fun with it.

I tried using my address with an American state/Zip and it didn't want to know. I'll try using a full address, although that does seem highly illegal.
I hope the PS2 games aren't region locked, that would suck if they managed to take my money and then leave unable to play.

Only other game I can think of getting is From Dust. Pretty fun game that.

Wait, you can just get Godhand on the PSN?

YES. Yes you can.
It's stupidly cheesy, but it's the fun kind of stupid.
No seriously, everyone on NPF should get it.
Also, you get stronger if you get higher levels on the skull-icon-thing. You are totally better at the game if you can reach level DIE(That's really the name, honest!).

I've never played a Persona or SMT game before. Is Persona 3 a good place to start? The answer to that question seems pretty crucial to my chance of getting it. I am interested though. Epic RPG for $9.99 seems like good deal.
God Hand feels like some sort of trick. Like a full forum conspiracy or something. Are you sure it isn't horrible?
I have thirty bucks left, so the decisions are becoming more and more pulse pounding!

Two probably silly questions.
1. Can you play PSX games on that bad boy?
2. If so, can you find LSD Dream Emulator? If you can get it cheap, I recommend that you take it for a spin because it's marvelous, and trippy as balls.

I have no idea what games are available there, but if you have the opportunity to play Beyond Good and Evil, go for it. It's a great stealth-game-plus-Legend-of-Zelda-game-in-space with a fun, open-ish world, great storyline, fun characters and pretty decent controls.

This, God Hand is pretty damn fun though the casino mini games are totally rigged against you. The camara's alright from my experience.
Edit: Satan he should be able to. Nearly all model PS3s can play PSX/PSONE discs

It's only 10 bucks? HO SHIT, GET ON THAT SON. Quick before they change their minds!
To answer your question though, Persona 3 has absolutely nothing to do with Persona 1 and 2, minus some shout outs.
Warnings: The game is rather on the difficult side. Some of that is genuine difficulty, some of that is artificial. I AM LOOKING AT YOU MITSURU AND YOUR GODDAMN MARIN KARIN. WHY WON'T YOU HEAL ME? DO YOU HATE ME? FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! Also, if the main character croaks, its GAME OVER. This becomes... troublesome... when you consider the way Light and Dark attacks work in the game. (Hint: They kill you. Forever.)
I will say there is nothing quite like that feeling of momentary panic in a SMT game when your enemy casts Hama or Mudo and you are all like "SHIT!" and then it fails and you let out a sigh, then another enemy casts it and you die and then there is nothing but rage.
Well I'm currently balls-deep in P3P (I think it's basically P3 FES for the PSP) and I'm loving it. And I'm the guy that is more cynical than I should be about RPG games.
If you ever get a PSP, then this is a good version of the game to pick up. It has a genderbend option where the protag is a female and all the social links change accordingly. Also, you can control your party members, which makes shit almost laughably easy.
On the downside, they use cutouts instead of showing what is happening and ditched almost all of the anime cutscenes.
God Hand feels like some sort of trick. Like a full forum conspiracy or something. Are you sure it isn't horrible?
God Hand is a completely balls insane action kung fu game with the sensibilities of a Bruce Lee x Blaxploitation x Jackie Chan crossover movie on LSD.
If this finely craft fact doesn't push you over into wanting the game, then go look up the end credits on Youtube. Be warned though, the game is a little frustrating and completely fucking insane, you will go cross eyed if you try to understand God Hand.
For one doesn't understand God Hand, he merely punches dudes int he nuts with the Ball Buster.

Yeah, the PS2 selection on PS3 is pretty good. God Hand, Maximo, Persona...there are only like ten games available so presumably if they went to the trouble to make them work as downloadables they must be pretty good.
I plan on buying Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath sometime, I never got a chance to play it on XBOX and now that they finally made a port and it's only 15 bucks I think I'll be getting that posthaste.

NPF, I have decided to err with the consensus. It was probably an unwise choice, since that means I made a choice based on NPF at all.
I bought God Hand and Persona 3. That will conclude my purchases for a bit, though I only have ten bucks left. I'm sure I can save that for some future release.
Interesting tidbit: PSN wasn't charging me any tax on purchases. And neither did the store. Woohoo tax free gaming?

P3 actually has buttloads of enjoyable gameplay in it, so don't feel like you're gonna be SOL on games to play any time soon.

Most states do not charge sales taxes on online purchases, such as those made through Amazon. Although I heard my state was planning on altering this.

I am not states (thankfully), I am Canada. And I've always paid taxes on all online purchases. Or at least so many that if there were a few tax free ones, I don't remember them.
Actually, come to think of it, I remember the PSN charging tax before, when I had my first PS3.

From what I know of it. Its an indi fighting game and a very good one at that. The characters are very Balanced meaning you won't get cheated in an online match by a spammer. The game engine is also designed to pervent juggling and endless combos. It's a call back to the classic arcade fighting game with a game engine built for tournament use. A fighter built for veteran fans and new comers to the genre. Totally worth a buy.

I've been playing it a bit for the past couple days. It's kinda like a better MvC2 as far as gameplay goes (whereas MvC3 is a worse MvC2, by comparison). I've found the online to be a little shaky and barebones, but the matchmaking feels less awful than Capcom's. Character balance is done well, though that's to be expected with a cast of only 8. However, despite the small cast, it at least hits all the expected playstyle archetypes with very unique and creative designs to all of them.
Also--and I fucking love this--team size is selectable. You can have between 1 and 3 characters, with the health and damage of each character scaled accordingly. So if you want to break out a MvC-style 3-character team with all the assists, switch combos, and regenerating health involved, you can do that. If you want to scale down your available assists for more health and damage from your characters, you can choose to only use 2. Or, if you're like me and just want to worry about one character, then that's still perfectly viable because she'll have a ton of health and hit like a truck to make up for the lack of assists and shorter combos.
The most controversial aspect of the game is the fanservicey character designs and animations. This is nothing new to fighting games, of course, but with an all-female cast it becomes much more noticeable, and the animations make no attempt to downplay the very deliberate appeal to the players genitals. That said, despite how juvenile a great deal of it is, I still feel that it's not quite as tasteless about it the same way a lot of other games are (women's clothes exploding off their body upon defeat in KoF, constant closeups on tits and ass in SF4 and SFxT, everything about MK9), though that doesn't excuse it.
So, it may make you/anyone who happens to walk in on you playing it uncomfortable.
All in all, a great game for the price, and definitely worth it to support some new blood in the genre.

Good news, Persona 3 does work on UK PS3s. Bad news, there's a bug that makes it so that sometimes it fails to save correctly. It acts like there's no memory card inserted and could easily screw you over if you don't notice.
Aside from that, I'm enjoying the game but I'm still waiting for something to happen. I've just gotten the fourth party member, so I'm not super far, but I'm still waiting for character or story elements hooks to present themselves. I'm sure holidays and revelations are coming, but right now, it's just attending courses and stabbing fools.

That's how it is for the first part, it seems like they want to give you plenty of time to get used to the system before they throw shit at you. The storyline does begin to snowball after like the second or third full moon and begins to be more interesting.
