IC, I'm curious what tells you were getting that let you finger basically every person on the scum team except Fenris.
Well, they were really coming onto him, so he just took the plunge and hoped they wouldn't press charges.

IC, I'm curious what tells you were getting that let you finger basically every person on the scum team except Fenris. I admit that perhaps I could have been following the thread a little closer, but I didn't think there were enough scumtells flying around to out all of them.
What helped me create the list was the two townies that died that night were people I had no clue who's role were. So with those two, I took the list of people I knew who's role was based off night activity or copying (which was Fenris, and didn't realize my mistake until too late, however luckily, Nikose put proof of that on the night post, and I was willing to believe Bahamutflare once I roleblocked him and nothing happened). I then took everyone else, and listed them in order of what was a mix of activity and little things that irked me, such as posting random thoughts, or general acusations on this is how I do things, rather than specifics, stuff like that. I don't normally keep notes, so I don't have specifics on what popped up, however I do remember it was mostly Ecks' activity that irked me.
When in doubt, vote for the person that posts the most.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, terrible bad worst advice. All you do if you totally follow that line of thought is bring games closer to entropy.
Okay wow yeah that sounds terrible IC. Because, as I said before, were I in actuality a vanilla townie, I would post a lot. Guess I really ought to follow some other peoples' examples and lurk all day erryday and then be an unflappable douchewad when I finally do post.
Man if I'm just gonna be a target for enthusiastically playing a game (which I'm still learning the ropes of, by the way) then maybe I ought to just do the smart thing and...
not play.

to be fair in your case you were panic posting, but like overall thats mega terrible advice that encourages people to just not post at all
True enough, though in actuality I didn't start panic posting until IC started pointing fingers at me day 2. I thought I handled day 1 pretty okay but then like I said I'm still new to this, some of the nuance hasn't settled in yet.

Its not always entirely that situation, the main point of it is that most of the time, is that people posting in mafia tend to be posting more because that have a reason than not to. Fenris actually had real life stuff pull him away, but everyone else posting was trying really hard to look awesome, aka, posting way more than should be demanded.
People post because they have something to lose, more often then not they have a higher risk. Some people know this, and play against it, but in this particular situation the 3 people posting and trying to look their best also happened to all 3 be scum. The next 3 you noticed I was going on about inactives, and only one of those 3 proved to be scum. More often then not, scum post more than townies, to make themselves look like townies. Its not always true, but is a sub-conscious thing. Hell by simply making it known here, I've probably ruined some of its strengths anyway.
Is it solid advice that you can follow 100%? No. When you got no leads on day 4, and you are looking around trying to decide who to lynch, and everyone has been helpful and all lynched scum, yeah, this is something to consider.
Is it meta-gamie, yeah it is. Then again that is what Mafia is entirely, a giant game of meta-gaming in which everyone figures out why everyone is posting what they are posting, and what is everyone's goal, so yeah, meta-gaming is part of the game. This happens to be one instance that I was able to piece together a list of scum from most likely to least likely using that. I mean, this list wasn't formed 100% based on activity, I had a good chunk of people eliminated thanks to two townies dying and a lot of people claiming, but when I only had about 6 people, and I figured 4 scum targets (I thought 3 mafia and an SK, surprised there were 4) I just listed them in the order of activity and said kill em, and you saw what that proved.

The thing is my game activty this particular mafia was tiny compared to what I do normally because i've been busy with other things, i've basically been non-scum every time i've played and i've always been much more active. Voting the more active players off just because they talk is pretty shitty and makes for bad mafia games because it ends up being only the silent players left.

And when I was Vig, I shot you because of it.
I personally will always post and try to get information. I may have another goal based on my role (Trying to get scum to shoot me N1), but that involves lying. I'm an engineer and the one thing all engineers can't engineer...is a lie.
Point being: I like mafia. I want to post. I don't want to die because of more posts because that is purely meta. If I slip up or am investigated, then sure, but lynch bc of activity is not always good.

Yeah, saying kill people because they're playing the game is really shitty. Town or scum, I'm super absorbed in any game of Mafia I'm playing.
