View Full Version : This Floor is Killing Me: Killing Floor on NPF Steam Night Thread

Right off the bat... why a separate thread?
Well, two things: One, to actually talk about the game killing Floor (just got it! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!!!! ) Secondly, to talk about MAPS for Killing Floor (didn't knew it was such a big deal, and actually love it even more for it!) ... so here we can do all of that without disturbing the more open Thread for all things NPF on Steam.
So, to make things easier to setup, i'm calling Killing Floor players in advance so those interested can pick it up (Is the Steam offer up yet?) and setup a game for us this weekend.
For that... one must ask if we should just join a server or host a game with our own selection of maps...
And at the same time... what maps you like to play? Cause i'm about to set my pc to download 11 Map Packs that seem to turn on the high side of 500Mb of pure Mapping Goodness! And do that just to know i don't have all the files i need it's ...frustrating.
So, c'mon people! Survival horror Coop shooter time! Let's setup a game! or ten!

We usually just join a sever, since hosting tends to have an unnecessary amount of hurdles. Also we usually just play on the default maps. I dunno if/how custom maps affect perk progress.

Depends on the map, but a lot of customs are supported from what I've played. It's pretty easy to notice when you're not getting perk progress, so it'd be easy enough to switch servers then anyway.
And if we are playing this weekend, I MUST get level 6 Commando. I'm so stupidly close at this point. And then I can work on Demo or Berserker!

Note to self: Kill stalkers so Lazy doesn't get the kills.

There are always empty servers to be found, and the default maps are really good as they are.
To answer arc's question. It is not based on the MAP we play but certain mods outright turn off perk progress on servers.

Most of the default maps are pretty good. My favorite ones are Biotics Lab, Mountain Pass and West London as they become cakewalks when you know where to hole up (all of these maps have "sweet spots" where the threat to ourselves is little to none, while minimizing the directions we have to shoot in), with Manor as my favorite map that doesn't have very good places (the fact that the most acceptable strategy is to stand in the middle where almost no spawn paths converge is pretty awful).
Anything in the options to make a crosshair appear? I'm not hardcore enough for blind shooting.

That's what iron sights are for, really (right click to go in and out). I think aiming down the sights actually helps with accuracy beyond the psychological thing too, but don't quote me on that one. Only downside is it slows you down... but some weapons outside of the sharpshooter line are still pretty damn accurate. Hooray for dot sights!
Also doesn't take long to get used to, all things considered. Best way to practice is trying to headshot clots in the first wave without iron sighting.

You don't need aim with shotguns, especially the hunting shotgun where point-and-click snags you massive multikills (especially when friendly fire is turned on).

Just to comment, sorry i couldn't return to Killing Floor night, but just a few pointes:
1- I tried to connect to no less than 15 servers all day without success, but with the NPF crew i got into the game on the first try. So, YEY!
2- Killing floor really is quite intense, more than i thought so! That Patriarch is a cheating bitch though
3- I blame my connection, but i think it might be the game... i never had problem hearing you guys on TF2, but the voices on KF were a bit muffled i could only partially understand what you are all saying...
4- i totally heard that stream of "Fuck you's" and the "Fat Fat Fat fat fat fat..." though...
5- I learned that Paying a ton of cash for a fast reloading shotgun is stupid when i can buy one with better aim and more punch for a third of the price... just backpedal harder when reloading!
6- We should totally do that again in a server that allows more people to join
Here is my question though.... why my character is slower than everyone else? At times i saw people running by me and just went "Guys... guys! C'mon... don't leave me behind... oh god, please!" same when i leave the shopping screen and found out that everyone had left the shop... it freaks me out!

Leveling system/class choice/ammount of weapons you have on you
For every level you have on a class the faster you move.
For every gun you have the slower you move.
Berserkers are the fastest class as long as they have only one or two weapons on them. They are also immune to clots grabs.
Medics are the second fastest class at higher levels and all their specialized weapons are surprisingly light. Its not uncommon for a medic to load up though.

Most importantly: Counter Strike rules. Or in other words, having your knife out makes you run faster.
Also, Killing Floor's voice chat is ridiculously low quality, and almost impossible to hear anything unless you're familiar with garbled nonsense.

We really might be better off using the steam voice chat though the steam night chat from now on for killing floor since that is so much better then the one killing floor has, and everyone already has it obviously.

which also means we will alienate everyone that is on the chat but not on the game... love it!! We shall make it so!
Also, i tried the Minecraft map, it's fun but frustrating as hell. Recomended!

Pretty sure Steam Voice chat only works if you opt into it. So people who aren't voice chatting won't hear us and we'd have to type into that particular window to talk to them anyway.
As far as alienation goes it's not much different from using in game voice chat.

You gyus think you'll still be playing next week? Don't want to get it know, since I've got exams coming up at the beginning of the week.

Berserkers are also frustrating as hell to play when you have a team full of people who know how to aim ;)
That said, your deaths are typically more glorious as a berserker too.

When you are knee deep in zombie armed with nothing but a knife and spite.... its rather hard not to die gloriously
