if i understood correctly it's not actually a bad system at all... you pay $0,99 and you only loose your ticket when you win and get an item for it... so you will always get what you payed for. Plus if multiple people in the same team use the tickets everybody gets the bonus...

So, yeah... a 100% guarantee way of getting up to 6 new unique items for $0.99 ... there are systems a lot worst than this.

my only complaint is 99 cents for one round might be abit too expensive. lets say you pay 10 rounds a week. Thats 40 dollars a month, far more than an MMO would charge to use their servers

The $1 ticket gets you access to the mode/mission. You buy a separate $2 ticket to get the extra item at the end.

Once you complete a mission you have unlimited access to it.

Once you complete a mission you have unlimited access to it.

Wrong.

Tour of Duty Tickets and Squad Surplus Vouchers are ONLY consumed upon successful completion of a Mission.

One ticket per completed mission. Premium mode.

Let me Clarify:

Mann Up Mode is a server where you can do a Tour of Duty.

A Tour of Duty is multiple Missions (rounds), each one consisting of multiple waves of Robots.

On completion of a Round you haven't yet won before, the Ticket is consumed, you get an item, and you get a Badge for that Tour of Service, tracking which Missions you've completed. Each time you complete a Mission you haven't yet beat, another Ticket is consumed, giving you another item.

The nasty bit is that you need a ticket to even enter a server doing Tours of Service, so without it, you can do vanilla MVM servers consisting of one Mission.

There's a separate Voucher item, for 1.99, that gives everyone on the (Mann It Up) server another item on top of any they may be getting by having their Tickets consumed.

edit: Yes, actually, Ocelot:

Q: What if I complete a Mission that I have already completed on my Tour of Duty Badge?

In this case, your Tour of Duty Ticket will not be consumed, and your ToDB progress will not be updated. Squad Surplus Vouchers, however, will always be redeemed for items when a Mission is completed successfully.

1 ticket per mission victory, unless you've already completed that mission before. So you can repeat your old Missions, free of charge. (er, free of exchange, anyway)

Thankfully, all this can be bypassed by just doing servers that aren't Mann It Up servers.

and considering that all the bonus are cosmetic, vanilla is fine by me!

340mb left to go... stupid slow internet...

Until you complete all the missions for your badge, which "upgrades it", and then you have to buy tickets all over again for the new badge.

Whatever. You can tell I'm not paying much attention to a Premium mode. Plus I'm a moron. You KNOW that by now, stop pretending otherwise.

Change the download to somewhere remote like Australia. It will upgrade the speed.

I just changed and I went from 1.1 kb/s to 850kb/s

So I was able to get one game in playing scout of course for lodsofemone.

6 shot force of nature.
6 SHOTS IN ONE CLIP FORCE OF FUCKING NATURE.

It worked really well with holding the smaller guys back, but I was also able to dodge a lot of the bots aimbot shenanigans, though the ancient art of circle strafing. So based on one round, yeah it is pretty awesome.

Now if only more than 1% of the playerbase could be playing this mode at once...

I love those new Medic lines. Some of the stuff he says is really mad scientist. Or just, you know, psychotic murderer.

"Oooooh. I am going to murder so many robots."

upside is normal game servers are easy to get in

Played another game as demoknight. Worked better then I thought, but still is not that great. Eyelander with the KGB's kill effect is hilarious though

What the fuck are you doing downloading any game that isn't TF2 on a day like this?

I've got no internet right now, so I was downloading some single player games using the free internet at the library. Or, trying to, at least.

Any chance we can get a game going in the afternoon before Sunday? I work nights and reeeeeeeeally want to get in on this. :(

Anyone else have steam and TF2 be all wonky? Nobody seems to be noticing my messages and when I joined Ramary's game through the steam options to bypass the matchmaking, I was stuck in spectator with no way to interact with anything at all, resulting in automatically getting kicked for inactivity.

the mode is fun as hell, if really fuckin hard at times. A good team destroys. I've had a couple teams already where a few bad apples refused to play well with anyone and ruined any chance for victory. A real bummer when waiting 20+ minutes for a team.

It's intense. Actually intense.

Who would thought that turning TF2 into a Tower Defense game would be fun?

There is just no way around it, you need a good team and you need to communicate. I actually managed to save my team a couple of times because of that. As a Engi i was able to reposition my stuff while the team held back the horde.

And as a Heavy, i managed to have a dispenser placed next to me and kept the Doctor nearby, thanks to the "faster shooting perk" i was mowing down bots like there is no tomorrow!

Still think you need to be damn good to pull of spy and sniper in this mode, specially in later waves... Pyros on the other hand are surprisingly effective.

AH! Also, depending on what you're carrying, if you run out of bullets during the tank missions and can't pick up some more nearby right away, just go melee on it. It works really well.

Aerozord
08-16-2012, 06:39 AM
good trick I found for the tank. have a medic kritz a demo, it charges so fast you can easily lay down multiple payloads of crit stickies.

Oh and this confused me at first, you get the canteen as a reward for surviving the final wave (you dont have to actually play them all). Also ammo is a huge deal because dead enemies dont drop any.

On a completely unrelated note. Why does no one use voice chat? Every server I was on it was all text and when I used my mic people acted like it was odd.

PS there will be a special circle in hell for you dicks that leave mid-wave.

There is no scaling, no auto-balance, this is designed for 6 people

Maybe people are having their games lock up, and have to CTL+ALT+DEL the game? Would that register as "disconnect by user"?

So, who wants Botkiller Weapons (http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Botkiller)? I want that Botkiller Wrench so badly.

Now, how do you get them?

There is currently a big bug goin about that randomly kicks people to the main menu. Or they're quitters who expect easy victory.

Usually the first.

i have no doubt some people are just quitting for being dicks... but yeah, it should be better today. Launch day was crazy unstable.

Do the tour of duty in mann it up mode. I'd imagine the gold variant is probly getting A's or A+ on all the maps in the ToD.

Locke cole

Yeah, 1 ticket (or 0.99) per Mission in the Tour of Duty.

Which I think comes out to about 3 bucks for the Botkiller weapon and the other vanilla items that you get for each mission.

Oh, and new info: all the Botkiller weapons are Strange by default.

So, how do you get the bot hats?

the voucher will entitle you and your crew to the hats or the golden variants of the weapons the first time through on a single mission.

Third Degree doesn't seem to work but maybe I'm just messing up.

Still up in the air about the Widowmaker.

Has anyone else tried using a Soldier with the Righteous Bison yet?

Try it! That raygun is love.

The Beggars Bazooka seems to work best out of the soldier weapons, I've found. Once it's fully upgraded, and throwing out 11 rockets in a very short time period, it's wonderful.

So I tried a gunslinger engie just for kicks.

Widowmaker was hilarious against melee types and super-pistol is surprisingly good at killing tanks and giants. It seemed to be causing me lag in the last round when I had max'd clip size and fire speed though.

I found that towards the end I was switching the gunslinger out for a normal sentry and deploying it a bit further back. It actually worked out pretty well. The uber-medics were getting killed before the giants reached that point so not being able to wrangle didn't hurt at all.
