As I assume most 40k players know, some of the models can result in some serious hits in the bank account. For example, take this little number (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/New_Stuff/AVENGER_STRIKE_FIGHTER.html) It costs $136 USD. I note in the book "Aeronautica", which has it's stats, that it only gives a silluette. Given the loadout, why not save $128 and buy a $8 1/72 scale A-18 warthog, add the lascannon and stubber, and call it good?

In another case, I noticed that the main differance between a Chimera and a Hellhound seemed to be the cannon. So I just picked up a Chimera, bought the bits for the inferno cannon (Was also prepared to improvise one if needed using flamer bits) and saved 9 dollars.

Finally, I figured out how to get some basic Deathwatch marines into my Inquisition army. And instead of spending a bunch of money on the conversion kit... got some chrome-colored paint, and some contour putty, and used that on a set of shoulder paldurons. (SP?) Here you can see the price of the conversion... and that's cheaper then what they're offering at the GW site. (http://bitzbarn.com/oscommerce/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=22_393_615&products_id=6379)

So how do you who play 40k save some money for the game?

Back when I played Orks I used to use ww2 era tank models for my Looted Wagons and battlewagons. If you must have GW models, use either black reach stuff for as long as you can, or get fantasy Orcs and convert up some guns for 40k. Fantasy troops come with about twice as many bodies for the price, and weapons are cheap. Thats why my Tau's Kroot are converted fantasy lizardmen

uh....

Buy used? Blue Table Painting usually have a great selection of half built, badly painted stuff thats really easy to use to expand an army.

Do NOT get anything painted by them though. the quality is nowhere near the asking price

Yeah, especally since I use Testors paints, as I know how they act... and I note at the place I get my paints at, usually are cheaper then Citidel paints as well, and have a FAR wider selection of colors and type.

And metallic red, for some reason, make for EXCELLENT blood.
