After two, agonizing months of hype, the countdown clock on Atlus’ Persona teaser site finally reached zero earlier this morning and if you’re a fan of the series, trust me, what Atlus revealed won’t disappoint. Seriously, it’s probably going to be an early Christmas for you guys, as the Persona team did not reveal a single Persona game...
....
But rather four Persona games! (See what I did there?)
One for the Vita, one for the 3DS, and two for the PS3.
Let’s get the main event out of the way first. Persona 5 has officially been announced for the PlayStation 3! Although it should be said the company didn’t unveil any gameplay footage.
Fans were instead treated to a rather cryptic teaser consisting of shackles chained to folding chairs and this message; “You are a slave. Want emancipation?” We should expect too see gameplay footage emerge throughout the coming year however, because Persona 5 will be unleashed in Japan in Winter 2014!
Is the slavery concept literal or more of the series’ symbolism? Hmmm...
Next up is the official reveal of the highly anticipated 3DS Persona game that’s been murmured to be in the works for quite some time. Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, is a chibified spin-off/crossover of Personas 3 and 4 and will be a dungeon crawler. Players will decide whether they want to play as the P3 team or the P4 team, with the story playing out differently depending on which side they choose.
Persona Q will grace Japanese stores on June 5, 2014.
Not gonna lie, I totally want this for my 3DS!
Recent rumors of a new Persona 4 game have indeed been proven true this morning, as the Persona team is teaming up with Project Diva developer Dingo to create a (I kid you not) brand-new rhythm game entitled Persona 4: Dancing All Night. In this game, Yu and the gang will be busting a groove to selections from Persona 4’s critically acclaimed soundtrack.
This game will launch for the PlayStation Vita in Japan in Fall 2014.
This could be a nice little treat for Vita owners. It's not the Persona 4 sequel people wanted but it's still pretty neat.
Rounding off the Persona reveals is the confirmation of a PS3 port of Persona 4: Ultimax Ultra Suplex Hold, which will be released in Japan next summer.
No 360 release? Bummer.
None of these games have been confirmed for an International release but given this is Atlus we’re talking about (not to mention SEGA Sammy is going to want its money’s worth), we should expect all four games to be confirmed for a Western release shortly.
So Persona fans, which of these four games are you looking forward to the most? … You know, other than Persona 5?
Hurray? Honestly given how our last atlus discussion went. Is there anyone here interested in P5? Do you think Atlus learned it's lesson from past mistakes? Will P5 turn out good or will it tank horribly?
Either way, we'll find out soon. Me personally, I never cared for the franchise beyond liking P3's and P4's OSTs. I might try out the P2 games and maybe P3P one day though.
