View Full Version : "Let's pretend Origins doesn't exist, OK?" a.k.a. there's a new Arkham game already.

Hot on the heels of the huge pile of "Meh" that was Arkham Origins, DC/Warner Brothers have released a new trailer for the "explosive finale of the Arkham series," titled Batman: Arkham Knight.
RUhcQvlOm7k
This seems... sudden? Origins JUST came out like six months ago. They've still got story DLC lined up, from what I understand, so it seems weird to be pushing a new one already, particularly since I don't think Origins did as well financially as they had hoped it would. I figured Origins would kill the franchise, to be honest. Maybe Origins is just becoming the Devil May Cry 2 of the Arkham series, where fans politely forget it exists.
Judging by the trailer, a few characters are getting some slight redesigns. The Batsuit is looking a bit Adam Jensenish, Penguin appears to have ditched the Macklemore coat, and Harley is... still dressing like a stripper. Joy. No sign of Joker, which is nice, but I'm not going to get my hopes up that they'll leave him out of this. I'm really REALLY bored of having him be the super seeeecret true villain in EVERYTHING, but he'll undoubtedly show up again because Joker.
Interestingly, Rocksteady is back at the helm this time, replacing the group of relative nobodies who made Origins. This is good news: Even though City had some major plot issues, it was far superior to Origins in almost every way, sans snow physics (oh boy exciting snow). I wonder if this will pick up where City left off, with Joker and Talia dead-but-probably-not, Hush doin' Hush things, and whatever the hell the teleporting-angel-guy-whose-name-I-don't-remember was doing.
So, will this be the game Gotham deserves? Or the one it NEEDS? Or... will it just be crap?

One word: Batmobile.

For some reason I can totally picture the Batmobile having Borderlands-style vehicle physics.

No idea what that means!

Borderlands had really weird vehicle physics where if you melee attacked your car, it would go flying away like it was made of balloons. Similarly, if you drove off a ramp or crashed into another car, you'd ricochet around like bumper cars.

I really like all the Batman games recently but they ALL have huge gaping holes. I'm going to buy this. I assure you. But.... but...
This trailer has plotholes. Batman Plotholes. Comic Book plotholes. Video Game plotholes.
By that i mean... all of this is Ok, but c'mon...
Thomas Wayne says in his letter he will never see his son become a grown man. How the hell do you know this Thomas?!?! Goddamn it...
Also, Batmobile? Cool! Driving sections? Has me worried. Sure as hell is not going to be jus for fast travelling... maybe On Rail sections... makes sense for Batman. Not sure if it's cool that way.
BUT... the placemente of the Batmobile exit? Bullshit. People would find that out. Just a big dumb metal dor half a feet underwater in a lake, c'mon now...
Also, this takes place a year after City? Doesn't everybody looks.... too young?

Thomas Wayne says in his letter he will never see his son become a grown man. How the hell do you know this Thomas?!?! Goddamn it...Well, that's easy enough to explain. It's his part of his will. It is written explicitly for the chance that he could die before his son grows up. And it can always be updated if things change, ie, Bruce grows up, learns these lessons from his father in person, etc.
Can't comment much on anything else. I still never even finished playing the first game...

Shaaaaaaaaame.
Thomas Wayne's will Haha, that's true! And if he WAS just making a "just in case I die young" will, there doesn't seem to be an executor listed. So did the fortune go straight to nine-year-old Bruce? XD If that's the case, Thomas shouldn't have worried about him blowing the money on cars and clothes-- he probably spent half the fortune on Ninja Turtles toys and Pixie Stix.

From what I understand the main villain is Scarecrow, so it is automatically already better then Origins.
Some info (http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=779120)
The Good:
-You can eject jump out of the batmobile right into a super fast glide straight through the glass of a building to knock out enemies. They said glass breaking will be a big new thing.
-New moves include being able to use all your gadgets during flight. You now have a counter throw where you counter a guy and throw him into another guy. A new quick ground takedown. A quick backflip where you then throw a batarang in an enemies face.
- -"This is a single-player game. There is no multiplayer."
- - By not being cross-gen they've been able to push what the machines can do
The Dubious:
-There will be a brand new villain, something made by Rocksteady that they say will be the ultimate test for Batman
-Riddler challenges seem to be car based. The first one has you enter a sort of Riddler race track where you have to activate walls and ramps, when you activate one another closes so as you drive you have to be constantly turning on and off these ramps as you navigate the course.
-For the predator sections you can now chain takedowns of up to four enemies. For instance pop out of a grate and take one guy, jump to the next and so on. You can now enter grates from a distance, he will automatically do a jump or roll to enter them.
Overall, I'm a bit hype. Hoping they don't pull a SURPRISE JOKER again, I mean c'mon, his body was even cremated

I love the fact that Thomas wayne goes ''Everything goes to my son if i die'' Like..... maybe you considered that your wife would still be alive maybe?
...maybe Alfred just has a wide selection of Wills for each scenario?

To be fair, Origins would've probably been better if it had gone with its sales pitch and had actually been about Black Mask.
Calling it now: Scarecrow is secretly Joker, Two Face is secretly Joker, Penguin is secretly Joker, Joker is secretly Clayface, and Scarface was Batman all along.
Riddler car challenges Because when you think of Riddler, the first thing that comes to mind is... cars? Meh, as long as Arkham Knight handles the character better than Origins "Hi I'm a threat! Welp, see ya. I don't actually have to BE IN THE GAME or have any sort of CONCLUSION to my lengthy sidequest. Byeee!" I'l be ok with it. Riddler's my favorite villain and he's usually well written in these. Plus he has a great voice actor.
It's kinda funny that the first thing that I thought of after reading all these Batmobile news was Nuts & Bolts

"One moment, Sir. Allow me to consult the Will Archive. Hmmmm... eaten by a lion, no. Comfortable old age, no. Plane wreck when Bruce is an adult, plane wreck when Bruce is a child, nooo. Ah, here we are: Shot while walking down the shadiest alley in Gotham. Clause A: Situation wherein I and my wife both die, subclause 12: in which I will not live to see Bruce grow up."

It's being made by Rocksteady and is a sequel. The internet is not allowed to bitch now.
But reasons!
Goddammit!
My only complaint is the presumption it is not going to be compatible with PS3.

Kevin Conroy is Batman, all the previous voice actors are back. EEEEEEEEEE!!!!! THANK YOU ROCKSTEADY!!!!
Oracle will play a larger role, you get to visit her base and talk to her, tons of batman easter eggs included. Awesome!
Gotham City is 5 times bigger than AC. Split into 3 areas. NO LOAD TIMES at all, entering buildings is seamless.
There can be enemy riots, up to 50 enemies on screen at once. Yes please.
They spend a bunch of time talking about how detailed the models are, one character has more polygons than the environment of Asylum. Aaaand I'm never going to get this thing downloaded/ running on Vista, am I.
October 2014 Ah, right at the beginning of Steam Sale Season, the greatest season of all.

But will Arleen Sorkin be back as Harley, or will it be Tara Strong again? I mean, I'm not knocking Tara, she's great, but Arleen is Harley Quinn. I could never find definitive info on why she didn't voice City.

It's PS4/Xbone/PC only. Which is probably a good thing as the first two games were top notch (ain't playing Arkham Oranges for a long time, if ever, because WB think DLC >>> patching important bugs) and this one won't be hamstrung by being cross-gen. Even then the Glorious Master Race version is still superior. Because fuck yeah 8 year console generation.
Mauve, I really do think it's TIME TO LEAVE VISTA ALL BEHIND and upgrade yer rig. You don't need that shit that can exclusively* run Halo 2 anymore.
EDIT: Oh yeah, the titular 'Arkham Knight' is Hush.
Watch this space in 7 months for when I'm inevitably debunked!
*Yeah, it could be (and was) modified to run on XP easily, but Micro$oft

Oh, I'm not particularly fond of Vista. The only reason I haven't bought a new PC yet is because my internet is so slow it will take FOREVER to re-download all my games/updates/etc.
Seriously. I've been trying to download Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance since the Christmas sale.

Why not transfer it from HDD to HDD?

Can that work with Steam? I've never tried.
If you just put the folders from steamapps to steamapps it should only take Steam some time to recognize the files. I've only done it with saves tho, never with a full game.
Experiment with a small one to see how it'll go.
