So Persona Q is coming out at some point and in it you can choose whether to play as the protagonist of Persona 3, Minato, or the protagonist of Persona 4, Yu.

But as far as I know you can't choose to play as the female protagonist of Persona 3 Portable, Minako.

Apart from being bullshit shenanigans, it's really weird when you have a character who is only present in the Persona universe in her storyline, Theodore, but not the girl herself. To the developers, the velvet room dude you can fuck ranks as more important a presence in the game, filling a wholly different role than he did before, than the awesome female protagonist.

Like, it literally did not occur to me before now that they were making something exclusive to her story a part of Persona Q but not her. AND NOW IT REALLY BUGS ME like I was feeling bleh about Forced Male Protagonist especially which how fucking dull and soulless Minato and Yu are but straight up excluding Minako actually makes me sad.

Anyway I don't actually expect anyone other than me here to give a shit about this so the rest of you can talk about the game itself and how hype you are or whatever.

Don't worry, I'm sure Minako will be in Persona Q Velvet or whatever the fuck the inevitable deluxe edition gets called.

I was thinking the exact same thing Kim, and also why the fuck wasn't there a Femtag option for Persona 4 Golden.

Besides that the only thing I know about Persona Q is that main theme is stuck in my head and that shit is not leaving for a long while.

Don't worry, I'm sure there will be on Persona 4 Platinum when it comes out on the PS4.

Honestly, I think it'd make more sense to have neither Minato nor Minako in Persona Q, given how Persona 3 ends.

Pretty sure its not canon mainly so they could use the whole P3 cast.

I think its because of the tie in anime. They ended up making the choice during the P3 movie to use the male protagonist and thus that pseudocanon influenced this as well.

I don't agree with it, or your logic Snake. You can't use canon to keep characters out of a series based fighting game. It'd mean we could only play one Jojo in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure All Star Battle.

We aren't talking about the fighting game, Overcast, we're talking about the Etrian Odyssey styled spin-off.

Even if Persona Q takes place in some parallel non-canon universe, unless wacky time-traveling shenanigans are involved, the P3 cast should be two years older and the MC should be dead as a doornail.

If they're going to break the rules enough to enable time-traveling, they might as well allow for parallel universe shenanigans to bring both the male and female MCs into the mix. Or, just make them twin brother and sister in this canon.

Still, I actually prefer the P3 cast interactions from Arena without Minato, so I don't think it's a major loss to scrap him. P3's other strengths as a game helped compensate for the fact that he's one of the least interesting main characters out there. Even the hypothetical version of Yu that you could roleplay as who'd say shitty things, nearly flunk out of school, and be terrible to his friends still had more meat to his characterization.
If you could only include one or the other, it would probably make more sense to include Minako just so you could emulate P3P's gender choice but this time you'd be choosing between Minako and Yu. Yu already serves as a desirable self-insert Marty Stu fantasy for male gamers, Minako could at least serve a similar function for the ladies.

Oop my blunder. In that case it is a bit stranger. Though parallel universes aren't new to Persona it is in fact the biggest tragedy between the two Persona 2 games. So anything can happen at this point.

Like to be honest fuck continuity I don't give a damn about continuity. I just wish I could be a girl.

Fuck you know what'd be a good protagonist for a new spin-off of the Persona games? High school age Nanako.

Eh Nanako didn't really have a lot to her personality that would be kept as a high schooler being pretty much archetypal adorable little girl. She'd basically have to be a completely new character. Really the only extrapolatable thing is being extremely mature and responsible for her age.

Give me adult Chie and Dojima buddy cop RPG costarring her girlfriend Yukiko and a surprisingly unpleasant teenage Nanako who's moved out early (who's gotten a bit bitter about Dojima not exactly being great at being a dad). Also service station attendant Izanami is still around much to everyone's nervousness, though she doesn't actually do anything but creep everyone out. Maybe be a bad influence on Nanako as the most passive aggressive revenge a JRPG villain has ever done.

Edit: right shit Persona Q, I'm fairly pissed cause it's got no chance of coming out here, which means I need to do a work around of some kind. I like dungeon crawlers though so I probably will bother.

Well I mean Persona protags don't have much personality anyway. So what could we carry over that would define her dialogue choices: she's bubbly and positive a lot of the time, but is very responsible in her day to day duties, and she has a strong sense of family

That's a good point. I am really looking forward to P5 though, both for it and because hopefully that'll stop the constant deluge of half baked P4 stuff.
