Twitch Broadcast Schedule for E3
Jun 02 2014 · 48 comments · Events, News, Press
Today were excited to announce our broadcast schedule for the 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3). In addition to featuring a full slate of games each day from marquee publishers, all of the major press conferences will be broadcast on Twitch at www.twitch.tv/Twitch. Weve got tons of awesome content to bring you, including the reveal of numerous unannounced game titles.
During the convention, broadcasts will be conducted from the Twitch booth (South Hall #501) where attendees are welcome to see the live show in progress. Joining Twitchs Marcus djWHEAT Graham, Jon Carnage and Jordan Soma Tayer on hosting duties will be Swiftor, MANvsGAME, Seltzer_FD, and TheJustinFlynn.
This is Twitchs first year as the official live streaming platform of E3. Our partnership with the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) is a three-year agreement that we believe will heighten the global presence for the leading video game event.

Figured we might as well talk about what we are looking forward to or hoping for this year. And get a thread ready for when the event happens.
What really got my attention is the 3 mystery titles from Square. Oh and Sonic Boom gameplay. (which might be WiiU's best looking title).
MS also has a few mystery listings too. And they did announce early in the year that they're getting an exclusive JRPG that'll be this big thing that wins us over. And later that year Square caved and said they were going back to traditional JRPGs. I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that Square's next JRPG is the X1 exclusive, MS was talking about. Would be some serious shit if it's a 3rd Chrono game or a Chrono Trigger remake. I'd probably squeal like a school girl if one of Square's mystery titles is a new Musashi game... PLEASE be a new good musashi game (don't care what it's on). That franchise should at least be allowed to die on a good note. Samurai Legend was ok but kind of bad compared to Brave Fencer. Amazing graphics for PS2 and good sound track aside.

Considering how all the exclusive Xbox JRPGs have sucked other than Vesperia (which wasn't exclusive in Japan) I'm fairly doubtful about it being anything other than something dumb like Blue Dragon or Lost Odyssey 2. If it is like something amazing I'll be annoyed cause I don't have the cash or room for an X1 as well so it's not happening til like end of the console's lifetime.
I'm mostly interested in new things for the PS4 and getting dates for Bayonetta 2 and X.

I'm a bit sad that we are getting ''E3 Trailers'' before E3 but that's happening...
We will get Either zelda or metroid from nintendo.
We will get Halo, God of War, Uncharted...
MS with their tails between their legs because the console they are showing on E3 this year is almost another machine compared with the one they launched.
Also they either waste time trying to save the Kinect by saying titles for it will still come and wasting time showing so... or they completely ignore Kinect and every publisher with a Kinect game in the works will go ''Fuck you Microsoft'' . Regardless.... MS E3 will be at least partially a walk of shame.
They can still pull it off though... depends on the games.
Sony will have to bring the meat to the table. They are riding high from last year but they can easily loose everything if they don't show the goodies...
We will get ''The Order'' we will get ''Evil Within'' ...either Sony or MS will have MGS5 on stage...
We will also get the new Battlefield trailer and the new Witcher 3 trailer... and we will also get some Mirror's Edge 2 and maybe Assassin's creed, but mostly CG stuff.
There will be no word on FF15 or KH3. Maybe on TGS... maybe.
We might also see more of The Division,
The rebirth
Wild Prediction: Sony cuts the price of the PS4 by 50 bucks just to screw with microsoft. It will be successful.

A price drop on the Wii-U would be nice.
Well, I guess it comes with a game, now. Maybe I should just get a real job. I had fun playing 3D World when I visited my friend, so I'd like to get one, but $300 is almost a month's pay for me.

I hope we see more of the Division. I really hope that game doesn't end up getting hyped up beyond belief, only to fail to meet expectations (a la Watch Dogs).
Also anything WiiU related.
I really don't care what Sony or MS do at this point unless one of their conferences shows off a new game that's also coming to PC at some point.

I want to see a Retro-developed 2.5D sequel to Metroid Fusion for 3DS. They'd do well with Starfox too, but if I could only choose one it wouldn't be that.
Also, some kinda F-Zero for 3DS, even if it's a port of the GC one. That series would look great with the 3D turned on.
I'm only interested in what Nintendo are doing so I won't be following the news outside of that, so I kinda wish they had a more consolidated line-up. They've got a lot of little events across four days and I'm not really sure what's what.

I dunno if anyone mentioned it but it sounds like they've got a booth set up for something called Mario Maker, which looks like it'll be for 3DS. Obvious guess is that it's for making custom Mario levels.

Doubtful, Sakamoto's still there, and Japanese companies unlike American ones will often stick with senior staff even after they have screwed up royally and let them do so again.
See the guy who released the terrible first version of FF11, being given control of FF14 leading to FF14 1.0. I mean this behaviour has some upsides as it allows weird new IPs to happen more readily, but it has some definite downsides as well. And one of those downsides is any future Metroids are going to have the disgusting Other M characterisation of Samus.

I've seen SOME leaked gameplay of Bloodborne when it was Project Beast, but I'd much prefer that they give me ACTUAL GAMEPLAY at the reveal. Like, just enough for me to know that its going to be as fun as/better than Dark Souls. I'm right on the edge of snatching a PS4, but they need to reeeeally close the deal.

Trailer for MGS 5 was ''Metal as Fuck" as the kids would say. Loving to see Eli ''confirmed'' as Liquid Snake and Big Boss, literally, going nuts.
new Batman looks really good, that Gameplay was interesting. The city is huge!
GTA 5 seem to be the only good secret of E3 this year... didn't see it coming!
''Blood Porn'' is interesting and that SUDA 51 game might also be... looked a bit like ''Manhunt'' in fighting game format...
no Shadow of Mordor on stage, but we got the Gameplay early on the day, so that's fine... still looks like Batman, but not in the same scope as Arkhan Knight...
No Man's Sky looks very interesting... want to see more of that.
NEW RAINBOW SIX!! YEAH!! should be somewhat like Ghost Recon Online though... and it costed us Rainbow Six Patriots. That is now officially dead.
Also liked the Shyria team up with ''Not-Dante'' in Scalebound... but... too early to say anything. It was just a CG montage...
I loved how microsoft learned their lesson and just went ''Fuck it!! Nothing but trailers, back-to-back, lets go!" and off they go! But it was a fairly decent presentation. Kinda light on exclusive content... but not bad at all.
Witcher 3 is fucking gorgeous BTW...
Can't really remember the rest of the stuff right now of the top of my head.... i got the Beta for Battlefield Hardline, but couldn't play it. Will try again today... that actually sounds more fun than BF4...

It wasn't really my cup of tea either, but calling it a bad game is really unfair.
Magicka was a really good game, and a game can be really good even if you don't like it.
Ryong
06-10-2014, 08:32 AM
To be fair, I meant that Magicka 2 would be a bad game because it's clearly going to be more of the same.
MEANWHILE
Squeenix was going to announce 3 titles.
Rise of the Tomb Raider was revealed yesterday and I believe Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris was revealed at E3 too, just not in the conference.
So the next game to be announced has to be for a Nintendo platform.
I thought MS' show was really strange. They announced a person who revealed a game with a trailer, and then after the trailer... they wheeled the next person out straight away and didn't talk about what was shown at all. I get it was a packed show and they only had 90 minutes, but you're really gonna throw Zombie Parkour One-Liners Simulator at us and then not talk about it at all?
Bells
06-10-2014, 10:36 AM
Wasn't packed at al... Sony Showed (If i recall correctly) twice as many titles as MS did... it's just that Microsoft did the only decent thing they could ever do and just standed on stage and went ''You don't want to hear us talking, so fuck it. Have games." and just blasted the audience with trailer after trailer...
Sony did the ''double take'' thing a lot more where there is a trailer shown and then the developer steps in to show a little more of the title. It made Sony's presentation way slower in comparisson (specially the middle) even though i felt there was way more content to it.

Oh my god The Sims 4 is coming out in September, just in time for my birthday. And it looks fantastic. Love the art direction they went with, love the new build mode (although I miss create a style, I understand why the left it out since it seriously lagged The Sims 3), love the new create a sim, love how they animated the sims to look more realistic, love how you can share content without having to exit the game.
There are two small things I hope they include in The Sims 4 which is a photo album feature similar to the one in the first sims, since without it it kinda feels like your sims don't have a narrative/history, and also the ability to add your own music to the game since the music in the last two sims games was awful. They probably won't have the latter feature, though, oh well.

That's why I always buy hardcopies of The Sims.
Edit: like origin has never been required to play any of the sims games and I think they confirmed it's not needed for the sims 4. I need to find a source for that though. It's unusual for EA but they're actually pretty good about not fucking up the sims specifically. That doesn't mean it's impossible, though, and if they do require origin for it I probably won't buy it.

Welp, Zelda. Now I'm all 'cited again.
Love the aesthetic, and how Link looks. Maybe Wii Us will start appearing in bricks-and-mortar stores again here? Nope
Wish there was also Majora's Mask 3D but oh well. Not actually sure of any big releases for the 3DS later this year apart from Pokemon ORAS and Smash Bros 3DS (October is -not- Summer, Nintendo).
Someone get me a Wii U for my birthday, I will both love you forever and avoid getting myself lynched in public

I'm happy for what i saw of Zelda... i think Nintendo needs to be a little bolder, and this huge Monster Hunter vibe just might be the thing..... explosions, laser blasts and techno-arrows and all...
But i'll reserve my heart until i see actual Gameplay footage.
Doom is back though... so there is that.
Also, Bayonetta 2 gives you Bayonetta 1 free on the WiiU, with Metroid and Link costumes... so hey! Added value if you own a WiiU.

I don't usually follow E3 but I found the Arkham Knight gameplay on youtube and it looks GREAT. Dat Batmobile!!! The armor-suit is interesting, the rain effects are lovely, and Gotham looks gorgeous. It's also a nice change to see actual evidence of citizens in Gotham for once, with the cars on the road. I didn't notice any breakable items or trophies in the city, so either the game is ditching them for something else or this was just the Super Sparkly And Not Entirely Functional E3 Model of Gotham.
Not entirely sold on Scarecrow's new voice, though. It sounds NOTHING like the old one, so it makes me suspect this is a different person since he sorta ambiguously 'probably-dies' in Asylum. Unless Rockstar is pulling an Origins and Joker was the Scarecrow the whole time. -_-
New Zelda looks interesting, but I'mma wait until we get some more info until I pass judgement. The chase scene was admittedly pretty rad, but the "You can go wherever you want whenever you want" sounds dangerously Skyrim-esque, which sacrificed story and characterization for player freedom.
In Smash Bros news, Palutena looks neat, although I'm not really familiar with Kid Icarus so I don't know much about the character. Also not sure why she got a fanservice shot.
Also, what's with the Skylanders-esque figurines in the Mii trailer? I only saw the trailer on youtube so I've no idea what that's about. I hope you don't unlock characters by buying figures.

It's apparently just an optional perk. You can also save data on them too (to an extent. So they are pretty much action figure shaped memory cards. Except they just do small extra stuff instead of saving your game. For smash it seems they won't be needed at all. They'll just give a power up for said character. And will (hopefully ) be useless online most of the time unless allowed by the host.
Since the same figures are expected to be useful for multiple games. It's safe to say their use will very, and if handled well. Won't be a requirement for everything or even most games.

So, you fight them, or you have them fight each other, and the AI associated with that individual chunk of plastic gains levels. This makes that statue a smarter fighter and lets you give it perks and custom moves. I didn't see anything about it powering up characters played by people, I think Kyanbu might be mistaken on that. Maybe you're getting at how you can fight on a team with your toy?
Basically, it's kind of like a digital pet that you can bring into a game of Smash when you want to have more players than you have humans and someone was nerdy enough to bring his level 55 Olimar statue to the get-together.
Edit: Oh, and you can feed it equipment to make it stronger, a vital part of any fighting virtual pet. Just what "equipment" means in a Smash Bros context I couldn't tell you.

On Palutena, she's kinda of well a troll. Her whole personality in Uprising was being the mission control, while constantly needling Pit like an older sister, to the point of occasionally screwing with his powers for her own amusement. She's basically a PG rated gender swapped version of Zeus, or Loki. Kid Icarus Uprising had realy good writing. Also anyone else notice that Viridi (the series goddess of Nature, she really hates humans but kinda likes Pit) piped in there towards the end of Palutena's trailer?

I'm pleasantly surprised by Nintendo's offering this year. I have been mildly interested in the WiiU since Super Mario Brothers Wii U came out, but have been hesitant to buy the console until Nintendo could prove it could offer more than "Indie Developed Motion-Based Party Game Simulator" over and over again, as was the case with the Wii. Now they're starting to prove they can, so I might be re-examining the console.

For me, I've always assumed buying a Wii U would not be a question of if but when. (Heh. Now slightly modified to: when... can I afford it?)
But yeah, now there's over a dozen titles out or announced that interest me. The threshold has been crossed.
I'm just glad there'll be a 3DS Smash Bros, because in the likely case that I don't have a Wii U by then, I can still get in on some smashing.
Also, I took a glance at the XBONE and PS4 announcements and literally the only thing the interests me there is No Man's Sky. Website said platforms are TBA, would it be too much to hope for a PC version?

By having a 3DS i was able to pretty much annul any desire to have an WiiU, so i'm good with that. But now i can see that it has much more value than it had last month... or ever since launch really.
So Ubisoft says there aren't playable women in Assassin's Creed Unity because it would be too hard. It'd be too hard to animate they say. It'd "double the workload".
Here is what THE FUCKING ANIMATION DIRECTOR FOR ASSASSIN'S CREED III has to say about THAT.

Yeah saw that yesterday... bullshit and they are going to get called on that Bullshit fiercily until release day.
After a very impressive very cool Demo at E3 that many were saying that it was the needed fresh of breath air that not even AC4 delivered... someone shots himself in the foot this badly.
From what i understand only your main assassin is a ''character'' in the sense of having a name and a story... the Demo and Trailer gives a big vibe of you playing as a ''Nobody'' assisting the Revolution from the shadows.
My bet is that Ubisoft wrote the Tech before the wrote the story, as usual... so they don't know who these characters are yet. But they move in very, very cool ways.
Which is actually bizarre. From all the Multiplayer PVP (which is not even coming back for Unity), and Aveline... they never really presented their playable females in AC with overly ''erotic'' presences... (many NPC's in Ezio's story, sure... ) there was enver really an outcry there against Ubi on that front...
And now there is this moron pissing in the drinking water... for no goddamn reason.
Pre-Fixed characters i can understand, don't mind. Not wanting to have a ''Token female'' on the party i can accept. Its your game, your design. Do whatever the hell you want... it's fine!
But don't bullshit us saying that you ''really really wanted to'' but ''cannot because of reasons''.
Now observe... as they retcon this to hell and back in both games.

So it seems Starfox has been in development hell since the Wii. They've been working on this game for 6 years trying to make it work with motion controls and just weren't feeling it.
But it does seem like it'll be out within the next year. Though one thing has me a little concerned. Ok make that two things.
1. It was being tested with Wii models. Are they going to make new HD models. Or is this just gonna keep those old models for the sake of getting it out quickly.
2. Can I turn off Motion controls? Will they provide that option? Because if the answer is no then it's skyward sword all over again. And that's the last thing Starfox fans want. As this is the big thing that has many fans very concerned.
well, they're holding off on showing more until NEXT YEAR so no i don't think they're gonna rush it.

Skyward Sword was really good as far as gameplay and mechanics went, but it had a rather boring world design compared to other games, and forced the player to revisit the same areas several times without making those areas feel any more interesting. The focus of the demo was primarily on gameplay and how the GamePad can be used to improve on the previous games' flight mechanics. Graphically, it was very early and didn't show anywhere near the level of polish or depth of something like The Legend of Zelda Wii U footage earlier today, but Miyamoto explained, "The game started off as an experiment, and what we're showing you here is still fairly early on. But the game has already moved into full development, and we're planning on completing the game within a year.
They are Nintendo so they probably won't rush it, maybe I'm just worrying too much.

And you can fight him three more times if you do the boss rush, which you'll want to do for prizes, and he's even more annoying there with the boss rush restrictions.
Loved the game despite that because it whenever you are fighting anything that isn't that boss good times are had, and the dowsing mechanic takes the frustration out of the collect-a-thons without making them trivial, but that boss is a definite minus and I hope they don't do something like that again.

If Nintendo is going to pursue "Link as a representation of the player" again then I'd think it'd work out BETTER for them to include "Are you a boy or a girl?" at the beginning like pokemon or something and just change Link's character model to match. Okay, I get being inclusive with playable characters, but I don't think I follow you on this one Kim. Link is an established character (the quality and quantity of said characterization is a separate argument) and has always been male. Like, adding in the option of playing a female link sort of strikes me as being similar to being able to play a male Samus, Lara Croft, or Jade.
EDIT: On a second read-through it was Bard who suggested having the option, so I suppose the comment should be more directed to him. I'd appreciate comments if you'd like to give them anyway though, Kim.

Aonuma added that Link is meant to represent the player, and he doesn't want fans to focus on the character so much that they lose sight of the other elements in the trailer.
I was talking about this bit of the article. If they want Link to be his own character then sure, keep him as a dude. But my thoughts are that if they want him to be an extension of the player, then it'd behoove them to make a more customizable protagonist. But then, it'd probably be less a LoZ game and more of just a broader RPG.
Link is an established character is a poor argument when it's literally canon that 90% of Link's are different people. If you want Link to be an extension of the player, make him gender neutral or let players choose. The only Zelda games where he's really been a character in any meaningful way were Windwaker and Skyward Sword, and no element of his characterization in either hinged upon his gender.
rpgdemon
06-12-2014, 06:14 PM
The thing is, Link could already be gender neutral. Like, I don't see how it'd change the game at all, if he were.
To me, he is in no way presented as male or female, especially the further into the series you get, the only thing making him "male" is his presumed physical body, and other people calling him "him"?
Given Link's characterization, I really don't think he'd actually make a point out of it, were he gender neutral, nor do I think it'd even come up in-game. He's generally not the sort who corrects someone when they start calling him the wrong thing (See countless characters who call him silly nicknames like "Grasshopper", without even asking his input about it). In most of his characterizations, he's very much his own person, and doesn't really care what other people call him.
People refer to him as a boy in the games and use male pronouns. The games don't handle him in a gender neutral way. Even the recurring romance elements between him and other characters are based in heterocentrism and interpreting the character as male by the developers. Honestly, the "he wouldn't correct them" seems pretty weak because these characters aren't actually people. Every line of dialogue is written by someone. The writers aren't going to have the world consistently gender a character who literally cannot argue unless that reflects the writers own gendering of the character
I think Link should be gender neutral, but I also think that means the games need to be written in such a way as to reflect that.

The thing is, all of those "romances" are pretty much entirely one-sided. In most games, Link doesn't ever reciprocate, it's all stuff sort of thrust upon him, and he's passive enough that he goes along with it, despite clearly having no interest in certain cases. If he's going along with romances that he doesn't have any interest in, he's probably not going to correct someone if they refer to him as male.
I'm not saying, "Link is clearly gender neutral and everything is perfect about that representation". I'm saying that Link's gender does not matter in terms of his own actions and portrayal, and on top of that he's physically portrayed as androgynous, so he's pretty close to it already. I'm saying that I don't see that making him officially gender neutral actually changes anything about his character, except for how other people treat him.
I'm looking at it from an in-universe, death of the author, headcanon type of situation. Link is totally portrayed as gender neutral in a lot of situations, even those "romances". You're looking at it from an out-of-character standpoint, dissecting the authorial intent in how Link was written. It's not wrong to look at it either way, but we're having two completely different conversations.

Im pretty sure Link had a pretty standout shirtless scene in Twilight Princess. Also the character Ilia was totally his girlfriend. Like, sure, they never said it aloud, but it was fairly obvious. Also at the end of the game, he's totally checking out Midna. Not to mention that, in Wind Waker, Link has familial relations who refer to him consistently as "Older Brother" and "Grandson". I kinda doubt his LITTLE SISTER and GRANDMOTHER would get his gender wrong.
Link is pretty consistently a boy, and what I'm saying is that if Link is intended to be a representation of the player and his gender doesn't matter, then wouldn't it behoove Nintendo to either make both genders an option like Mass Effect or Pokemon or just ACTUALLY make him gender neutral?
Okay, fair enough RPG. I can understand that.

Honestly the whole premise of the different Links/Zeldas being reincarnations/retelling of stories lends itself pretty strongly to making one of the Link's a girl. Either way I'd be happier if this Link was a girl, but his current design rules and what they've shown of the game is pretty amazing so I'm fully hype anyway. Honestly almost everything Nintendo's shown has me hype as fuck.

Anyone else in the Destiny Alpha? It's surprisingly good. It's like Borderlands but well made and done serious, but with moments of humour that are still better than anything in Borderlands.
First mission spoiler: I just freaking lost it when my ai buddy voiced by Peter Dinklage said completely deadpan "That wizard came from the moon".

Usually someone has to pay double for that kind of action.

In vaguely E3 related news, Ubisoft is basically trying harder and harder to become my new least favorite developer. (http://tmi.kotaku.com/ubisoft-refused-to-talk-to-me-about-women-1590289504/all)
(And it used to be one my favorites, too. Feels like Atlus 2.0.)
What got me was that women in general seemed to be a taboo subject. Even when I asked about the woman hostage in Rainbow Six Siege's hostage mode (wherein teams compete to rescue or capture a hostage, as seen here)whether there would be male hostages as well, etcmy interviewee nearly got cut off by PR.
This paragraph stood out to me.
I hope developers and publishers remain terrified of getting these questions. Of having to answer these questions. Perhaps it will motivate them to be better about these things in the future. To have it in mind from the beginning, so this doesn't happen again.
I also hope that journalists keep bringing this up. Keep drawing attention to the silence they get when they ask these questions. Keep drawing attention to these problems to the developers and publishers.
This feels important and I hope it isn't just business as usual a week from now.
