View Full Version : Anyone know how Wildstar is?

Me and my brother were looking into getting it. For now researching because money is too tight to toss into something we wont enjoy. Reviews for it are good but online community makes or breaks these kinds of games and thats hard to find information on.

all the female models and animation are garbage but there's some cool stuff to encourage exploration and the like it seems. i'll assume the community is garbage because i've literally yet to find an mmo community that isn't.

Tried the second-to-last beta weekend. The game's love and care is clearly going into the community stuff, since quests are the standard "go to X", "kill X things" and "collect X things" with the generally unenjoyable skillbar piano on the PvE. Doesn't mean that the community stuff is actually good but it seems to be the dev's primary focus.

Damn, Runescape's quest design has ruined me for all MMOs.

I'll be honest. I regret buying it. I have a couple coworkers that were really into it, and enjoying themselves. So I got into it myself, but ended up not doing a lot with them, and got nowhere fast. Didn't even renew my subscription one month.

I'll be honest, community is the same thing as WoW. I know of a guild that transferred from WoW to Wildstar in its entirety. If you like WoW, and can easily join with random people and enjoy yourself, then Wildstar will work well for you. If you are like me and have problems with getting into the community with WoW like people randomly without knowing someone personally, then don't bother.

FWIW, a good friend of mine has been talking it up non-stop since he started playing a few weeks ago. He even put together a new rig to play it (and a couple other games) on better settings.

I told him I've already got GW2, STO, and SWtoR that I am hopping in and out of, so I don't really want to commit to a subscription MMO again. I will note that none of these three are difficult MMOs, and I have read that Wildstar actually has some difficulty/challenge. That's actually pretty neat -- I used to push my builds as best as possible in WoW, and I enjoyed the tougher boss fights and the achievements involved in them. While I really, really enjoy GW2 and STO (SWtoR I mostly play for lightsabers and the story), anyone with a mouse and a keyboard and a pulse can be successful in either's PvE. Edit: Sure, it's really easy for the average player to put together something horrible or that ignores the current meta of the games, but that usually isn't enough to prevent a dungeon from getting completed and won't keep them from progressing story or contributing to the zerg rush when beating world bosses.

I also have another friend trying to get us all to play Defiance, but that's another story.

In any case he speaks very highly of it, and this is a guy who's bought/played other MMOs and dropped them after a couple of weeks. That suggests to me that at least the setting and class styles are interesting. He also liked the visuals and art style, though he did say it was cartoony.

Also due to the hours he keeps he's up very early our time, which means he gets to play alongside a lot of Aussies and got into a guild with them to do group content. I got the impression this makes it easier to get through parts of the game that a solo player might find to be a roadblock.

I cannot offer a personal opinion, and none of the rest of my friends are playing. So maybe this was not helpful, but I trust his opinion.

Punch him.

In the face.

But if that doesn't work, I do have an account and would be willing to log on to play with you, but really it's kind of a uh. . . it's a kinda poor single player TPS with MMO very lightly sprinkled on top of it. I think I wrote that in my review thread.

Without making a derail, basically I've told him I'm not interested. I mean, the science fiction and space guns aspects are appealing but, like, it would get really old really quick. Reviews that aren't from early months tend to agree that it's repetitive and never really exciting at endgame.

I've been working hard on my Steam backlog and I'm quite proud of it. Was thinking of trying a MMO to help preserve it. Guild Wars 2 soured me with trying to pug dungeons and its giant crab beach, so I'm too lazy to patch that. Is there a trial for Wildstar? Was also thinking about Firefall as it'll be officially released soon, a lot of people say they've finally figured out how to make that game good, since the developer who ordered that Firefall bus left and stopped interfering with the game.

there isn't like a demo, but the game comes with some one week guest passes I could share. Assuming I get it of course

Yeah, im back. Somewhat. Deal with it.

So, wildstar. Great game, but currently a bit rough around the edges mechanically speaking. They're doing the initial stages of class balancing and shit like that. So i would wait on getting it for a few more months when shit is more smoothed out.

Now, aethestic preferences aside, the game is fun. Very fun. But, it is also very punishing towards lazy players, slow players, players looking to be carried through content. Dungeons, adventures, shiphands, and raids are unforgiving but very rewarding and gives a very good sense of accomplishment. Situational awareness is tantemount above all else.

It is oldschool Burning Crusade tough with combat elements similar to guild wars 2. But do not approach it with the mentality of either game, it will crush you.

Yeah yeah, double post whatever. Reason warrants the action.
So, if anyone else is interested there's a free trial of Wildstar going on until August 8th.

Figure I'd put that out there.

Nice
I will probably give that a shot to get a taste.

Seems this started two days ago, so naturally there's zero keys left for the UK. Weird that they're region locked, too. I imagine if there were UK-only servers they'd either be dead or filled with enough cyka pizdec blyats to fill a week's worth of EU Doter games.

EDIT: Oh, I could make an Alienware account for one. Eeeeeeewwwwwwww.
