So far am pretty happy with smash, but there's a whole thread on that.

Been also playing a few other goodies, Pikmin 3 being one of the best. So satisfying to lead my little army into war...

Hyrule warriors is interesting. Just started with Link so I'm eager to keep it going to see what other characters play like.

The main game pad is sort of cumbersome a lot of the time. I like the ability to simply be a second screen, but having a second screen of different things to monitor just makes me angry.

Hyrule Warriors storymode is great but THE BEST PART OF THE GAME is Adventure Mode. Kit and I have been playing that so much together. IIRC you're married right? You should see if your wife wants to play it with you.

Bayonetta 1+2 is a good deal, tho it's like Super Sexual so it's up to you if that's something that'd bug you.

I really wanna get Captain Toad, too. Super Mario 3D World is great and you should totally get it. You can be a kitty cat and play as Peach and Rosalina!

Oh! I completely failed to realize 2P mode in Warriors. Perfect!

Bayonetta 1 & 2 look super fun, I'd be really interested in the gameplay. There's other stuff about it that makes me feel weird so I might skip it. Is it sexual in a way that is going to make me more frusterated about women in games? Or is there some redeeming aspect of that?

I forgot to mention I do have 3D world as well, and yes it is fantastic! How do you play as Rosalina???

You unlock her by beating world Star 2. To get to the Star world you need to simply beat the game.

There are differing feminist perspectives on Bayonetta.

On the one hand, Bayonetta is more of a sexual subject than a sexual object, and is aggressively sexual rather than passively sexualized. They may seem small distinctions but so much of female sexualization in games is dehumanizing or feels put on a character that it doesn't make sense for. With Bayonetta it really sells the idea that she likes teasing and being sexy and stuff like that.

The character designer is a lady tho the male director had a lot of influence, obviously. However, IIRC I believe the director of Bayo 2 is a woman in addition to the character artist. I'm much more interested in female sexuality as depicted by women than men.

Much of the criticisms of the game have to do with the fact that it still is contributing to a status quo of sexualized women in games, that the camera is VERY gazy, and that the director of the first game holds some sexist views.

For the camera, it is very gazy, but to me it feels gazy in a way that like a customer is at a strip club. They gaze and want but they cannot touch. The stripper stands over the patron, in a way that feels like she is commanding and in control of the situation. That's the sort of vibe I get from Bayo's camera. I need to finish replaying it tho.

For the director's sexist comments, you can probably look them up somewhere, but if we're being honest if most directors were asked to elaborate on the personalities of their female characters they'd probably say sexist stuff too. I say that not as a defense but that sadly that's the state of the industry.

Anyway, that's a lot of blathering on about Bayonetta, which I do so that you can make a more informed decision. It's fun, but I don't wanna give an impression that might mislead you if you do check it out, and this stuff is important to me so I try to do the subject justice.

No worries! I appreciate the input. It sounds kind of how I thought it might be: some of that is kinda cool, some of it is tricky.

I wonder if there are any other decent 3rd Person Action games I should check out? I did a game-stop pro membership cause I'm a horrible consumer but I wanted to start gaming a little more so I'm open to suggestions.

Actually the director of the second game is a male. Yusuke Hashimoto, whom also worked on the monster designs for this game.

Rayman Legends is pretty fun too, although it has a bit of the Ubisoft "PUT IN ALL THE STUFF SO NO ONE WILL EVER 100% IT" thing put into it.

Wonderful 101 is another Character Action Game by Platinum (studio that made Bayonetta 1/2, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns).

The game is pretty fun, with a somewhat similar combat to Bayonetta, only the camera is from an isometric perspective. Why? Because you're not playing as a single character, but a team of superheros that Unite Morph together into over-sized fists, swords, guns, whips, hammers, balls, springs, gliders, tombstones, etc. The Wonderful 100 can also power up civilians into temporary super heroes to make their Unite Morphs stronger, and help fight off the evil alien invaders. Also that wasn't a typo, in game they're actually The Wonderful 100. So why is the game called Wonderful 101? Well, the 101st is you! (There's a cheesy bit at the start of the game that says pretty much the same thing, and despite the cheese I loved it)

My only gripe with W101 is that the screen can get really cluttered at times, making hard to tell when an attack is incoming. Still, if you're craving a WiiU character action game, give it a look.

Seconding Rayman Legends. It's a fantastic platformer, just don't be expecting to 100% it any time soon. And speaking of platformers, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. I'm only on world 2 but already I feel the game is more difficult than Rayman Legends. I do believe that DKC:TF is more co-op friendly than Rayman Legends, so if you want a platformer with co-op in mind then DKC:TF might be a better choice. Or it could be the worse choice because it just might lead to frustration.

Oh and if you can find it for cheap (which shouldn't be too hard) consider grabbing ZombieU. The controls are a little clunky, but it uses the gamepad in neat ways and is a pretty fun zombie game.

I had a blast playing through Super Mario 3D World with my SO, however, when trying to play co-op on Hyrule Warriors, the quality of the graphics goes down considerably, to the point where he preferred if we took turns on each level instead of playing at the same time.

And ^Kim, I agree, funnest part of the game is Adventure mode. I haven't been able to 100% it yet because I suck with Lana's Summon Gate weapon, blocking my path to some of the harder levels of the mode.

Mario Kart 8 is now my favorite Mario Kart game, hands down (even more than 64). I'm still having fun playing that one, and there's still some DLC left.

We just got smash last night and I haven't had time to play it, not even on the 3DS. The last time I played Smash was on Melee as well, so I'll probably be sucktacular.

I'm looking forward to 3 games as of now in 2015: Star Fox, Zelda and Yoshi's wolly world.

Yeha i have the same problem with multiplayer, tho the issue is more how many enemies render and framerate

More on Pikmin 3: This series is just so fantastic, I seriously cannot stop playing.

Losing Pikmin should be on one of those clickbait-y "top ten devestating moments in gaming" lists. So traumatic.

It'll take you a bit of getting used to, but aside from general knowledge like player psychology and "this character is good at this fighting style", you'd have to re-learn almost everything anyway. Been a lot of changes since then.

Especially with as many characters as there are now, it'll probably be overwhelming at first. Try to refamiliarize yourself with the game, clear Classic mode with a few of your old favorites and some of the newcomers, and once you feel ready just hop online. There's no matchmaking to speak of, so you may get matched with someone ridiculously good, or you may get matched with someone who does nothing but dash attacks all day.

I can also recommend W101, but skip the multiplayer mode. Even ignoring that it doesn't really capture the feel properly,The game's control scheme is such that you won't really know how to play it without playing the single-player-campaign-that-is-also-a-tutorial, and if both players already know how to play the game the multiplayer is going to be a bit confining. But that's just my opinion. the already-sketchy camera is complete ass when it's trying to track two players at once.

...Thank you Nintendo, thank you. T_T

Finally I can get Trilogy for a sane price point. And play them in HD (sort of).

Just bought Wonderful 101 and played for about an hour.

The pros:

-ARGH IT'S SO SILLY AND HAPPY I CAN'T STOP SMILING WHEN I PLAY IT! I know it gets a little more dramatic as it goes on, but right now it's just so goofy and fun.

-It's fast-paced and fun. I am horrible at it.

-I love the art style.

-Everyone says not to expect this to be Superhero Okami Pikmin, but so far it's totally Superhero Okami Pikmin with Dante-Vergil and I'm ok with this.

The cons:

-The controls take some getting used to, especially since I'm on a 4:3 tv and even in letterbox mode the tv cuts off the left half of the tutorial hints since they're in the 10% loss area.

-It's also the first wii-u game I've played that switches to the game pad screen without telling you. The first time that happened I didn't notice for a few minutes and I wondered why the scene was stuck looking at the exterior of a warehouse.

-I DREW A CIRCLE JUST LIKE YOU ASKED, GAME! ACCEPT MY CIRCLE AND CUTSCENE-PUNCH THROUGH THE BUS ALREADY, DAMMIT! (I am horrible at the timed drawing events, which may or may not be the game's fault.)

I remember having a problem like this with Phantom Hourglass. The drawing segments simply did not work, and it eventually reached the point where the game would not allow me to progress because it wouldn't acknowledge my triforce drawing no matter how many times I tried.

Honestly it's easier to just use the right stick for the drawing. It runs like a fighting game controls that way.

You can actually fix this! The Wii-U has a menu for shrinking down the screen, if your TV has overscan enabled (Or if for whatever other reason it doesn't all fit on screen). It's in the system options.

Just picked up Captain Toad.

Not jumping (and running sort of slowly) in a Mario game is a little frustrating, but that wears off. Not sure if worth the $40 I plopped down for an extended mini-game, but it's cute.
