ITS HAPPENING

Internet spends the last year working itself into a frothing, rabid frenzy over Fallout 4 hype, entirely generated by itself.
Trailer comes out, internet immediately rages that it's made by Bethesda and make unfavourable graphics comparisons with GTA San Andreas hands. It did not live up to the hype people created for themselves.

Well, I had no preconceived notions about a hypothetical Fallout 4 and so far this trailer makes me fucking hyped

The Internet gamer hype train is dumb as shit, regardless of game for decades. I recommend ignoring it all.
Hopefully for those who like Fallout this is great.

Considering the oblivion engine was shit and Fallout 3/NV were both fantastic on that, and the Skyrim engine is considerably less shit and this will LIKELY be on that, I'm pretty excited for this.
Hoping that they might let Obsidian have a run with the engine after releasing 4, though.

You know what makes me hate the label of calling myself a 'gamer' almost as much as the misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, regressive dipshit excrements of human beings who've co-opted the term?
All these gamers who are OBSESSED with graphics.
Like seriously, somehow this game isn't as perfect as Witcher whatever the fuck so it ain't going to be amazing? The game looks phenomenal, has great aesthetics, blows Fallout 3 and New Vegas out of the water in that regard, but you're not going to play it because it could've looked better if it was a PC exclusive, or characters still look kind of awkward and unrealistic?!? You're going to cry and moan and rage against Bethesda on some message board because IT'S NOT WORTH THE HYPE?
I'm still playing and enjoying the crap out of New Vegas NOW. Who the living fuck cares that characters look a bit wooden and stiff, and the environment looks dated? New Vegas is worth replaying because it's an incredible game, even now, in 2015.
Video games are being ruined by entitled jerks who are LIVID that there isn't a modicum more pixels portraying character faces. Ruined. Eventually development costs are going to reach a point that the industry may well crash while entitled gamers demand MORE MORE MORE GRAPHIX like toddlers in a toy store. And all the while the best games of every generation aren't even the prettiest ones!!!
Look I'm all for wanting your games to look the best they can, I understand the appeal of great graphics cards. But there isn't going to be this perpetual dream of exponentially better graphical fidelity for all eternity. Shit's going to be impossible pretty soon. A game that looks this good would've been beyond or imaginations in 2000 and would've blown our minds in 2009. Why the fuck are 'gamers' as a community entitled to more, entitled to white male heterosexual protagonists with beautiful love interests and THEIR FACES BETTER BE RENDERED WITH TWENTY TRILLION POLYGONZ?!?
Is there any more selfish, spoiled, privileged, idiotic fan base out there than gamers on their pissant message boards? Makes me almost feel something resembling empathy for the Ubisofts and EAs of the world. If these 'gamers' are the ones they scam with preorders and DLC and always-online maybe we deserve it.

I am so hyper-stoked right now. Just heard about it through my book of faces, which has proven to be like only the third time in my personal history that the thing has actually provided a use.
The main thing is that I will be able to snipe super mutants again. The fact that those mutants will have more polygons is pretty great, but secondary to the sniping and the super-mutantness.

There's always going to be that vocal group complaining about shit. People on the internet have been in an uproar lately about game trailers being over-hyped CGI shit that shows nothing about the game. Fallout 4's trailer is almost exclusively in-game footage and people are still throwing a fit. Although honestly I'm seeing more comments of people complaining about the complainers, so I guess I'm managing to avoid the places on the internet where the terrible gamers congregate.

The graphics are as good as Ill ever need 'em, especially since its an open world game.

This right here couldn't be more true.
I've also seen fans fearing that it's not going to bring anything new to the table.
There are some rumours floating around that the player will be voiced, and possibly male only for the story portion of the game. I also heard something about how you can make a female and/or custom character after the main story is over or something?
Not sure, take it all with a grain of salt of course. I think that's from some leak that could have been filthy lies.
I have no problem with them trying some new things with the main character, as I am sure perks and skills will still be highly customizable.
But New Vegas (and to a lesser extent, Fallout 3) has some of the best replay value because of how open ended the character is.
Too soon to tell.
Also it was super refreshing to see gameplay footage in the reveal. Me likey.

Its literally a three minute trailer that just gave us some neat visuals and revealed the setting. Its an announcement trailer. Trying to gleam THAT much info is absurd.

This stems from a Reddit thread theoretically written by a disgruntled, fired Bethesda employee in which said 'ex-employee' correctly guessed a few things a year or so ago: That the game would be set in Boston (which, admittingly, we all knew anyway), that the main character would be voiced (we heard his voice at the end of the trailer, or at least a voice for a male playable character), and that the first trailer would be released in June 2015.
Presumably, said 'leaks' would be confirmed as true if Bethesda ultimately refers to the main character as 'The Officer' or if other specific details continue to match the descriptions.
I'm not really sure what to think of it, but if it's true that we can only play as a man I'm gonna be hella pissed. Fallout's always been about maximizing customization with your character.

It wouldn't really make any sense at all for bethesda to remove character customization when their game engine and like 3/4 of the games they release are more or less completely built around it.
E: I found the Reddit post; the only things the person really seemed to get right was that the game would be in Boston - which Snake noted EVERYONE already expected - and that the trailer would be released in June. And they also said it would be released it E3 only, so they were half wrong on that (Not to mention that June is an easy guess for a game reveal because E3). The posts also purports a number of things that seem rather out there, like a PS3/XBox 360 version that will be released LATER than the next gen version but for some reason will have Mass Effect style data transfer (which will probably screw over anyone who bought the next gen version months in advance??). Also a detailed time-map for DLC in a game that was allegedly a year away from even being revealed. Overall, it just puts forth a lot of weird ideas that just detract from the whole idea and its not worth giving the time of day too.

Well, we already know that the PS3 and X360 versions aren't happening. Bethesda has explicitly nixed that.
I suppose you could still technically argue that Bethesda was planning said last-gen versions as of the time the woman in question was employed there and the Reddit post was actually written. Back before the PS4 (and to a lesser but still notable extent, the XBone) sold like hot cakes the general industry expectation was that there'd be a longer period of cross-gen titles, but then the PS4 sold crazy good numbers and now everyone's ditching the older consoles.
This is most likely bullshit, and most likely a case where everyone was making up 'rumors' and inevitably one person would guess enough right to become a sensation once the trailer was released. But if the guy in the trailer turns out to actually be nicknamed 'The Officer' you can expect a full Snake meltdown in the near future over being forced to play a man.

0% chance you won't be able to pick your character's gender and customise how they look, but I think Bethesda are taking the Bioware route by having a voiced protagonist. Possibly even a selection of voices.
What's wrong with "The Officer"? Although I haven't seen that crop up anywhere else, it doesn't imply male to me. The last one was "The Courier", they're both neutral enough to me but whatever.

What's wrong with "The Officer"?
Nothing's wrong with the title intrinsically, it's more that Bethesda confirming the character was named "The Officer" would validate the rest of the assertions made by the supposed leaker.

Not necessarily. Bearing in mind this leak was a year ago, a large amount of things can change between then and official reveals. 360 and PS3 versions would have been considered more viable a year ago, but given the negativity surrounding cross-gen downgrades and blah blah, additional costs of development, they may have decided otherwise. Perhaps if uptake of the new consoles had been lower in the year since, those versions would still be on the cards. It doesn't really matter anyway, early leaks regardless of the source and accuracy should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Sometimes even said leaks prompt development changes, like Half-Life 2.
'The Officer' being a cryogenically frozen pre-War police officer
That sounds awesome TBH.

That sounds awesome TBH.
Yeah, it would play in nicely with that pre-War footage in the trailer, too. I just dislike having a gender forced on you.
(If the leaker is accurate, the game starts with a 'Big Bang' during the outskirts of the War, The Officer loses his wife [named Lydia in a Skyrim reference!], then somehow ends up the one cryogenically frozen in a Vault? If there's only one cool thing about this it's the possibility that you'll meet friends in the prologue who reappear for reunions with your character as ghouls in the game itself.)

In the trailer, the guy in the Vault jumpsuit with the dog looks roughly the same as that pre-War husband. However, I think it's more likely you'll be the baby they had because customisation. It'll default you to looking the same as your father/mother.

I'd be really disappointed in Bethesda if they actually started the game off with a 'Woman in the Refrigerator' situation.

I would be kind of surprised if they started another Fallout game with your dead mother.
Then again, given Bethesda's predilection for internally stereotypical beginnings its' entirely possible.
See: Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim for adventures in Tamriel's failed criminal justice system.

Just FYI, those rumors are pretty much dead on arrival:

Most telling is, in the leaked casting call, they had male and female leads that were being cast.
