So they did another update (http://www.teamfortress.com/gunmettle/) and personally. I don't like it. You basically pay money for a timed (as in real time) event to unlock the new stuff. If this new stuff is purely cosmetic I can just ignore it but the whole thing just doesn't really appeal to me. Its got that MMO event vibe to it in the worst possible way

the only thing that matters with this update is the nerfing of those goddamn cancerous mini-sentries and Loch-n-load.

Yeah... I don't really care about the campaign bit (do we really need yet more stock reskins?), but more balance changes are nice.

Still waiting on that skill-based-matchmaking update, though.

yea but they buffed the dead ringer. Its not a balance issue, I'd just like to see some more variety instead of needing to triple kill every spy I meet.

I got my hopes up when I heard there was a new comic. But alas, it was not the comic I was hoping for. (Where's my Team Fortress #5, Valve?)

But yeah. Update content is lame.

They rebalanced the DR and made it better suited for its intended use: Getting behind enemy lines alive. The damage reduction is less extreme and wears off quickly, so sustained fire will kill them all the same if you know where they are. And the reduced cloak regen + inability to pick up metal for cloaks means it's less attractive for "battle spies" and more attractive for disengaging and getting to a safe spot. After all, you only realistically get one shot at it now.

So I bought a season coin and my thoughts:

To do the contracts you must play on official servers, which is no prob since it's basically pub stomping for me. The Contract Points are stupidly easy to get unless you're really really terrible at the game. You get two contracts per week, mine were for one of the new maps and the other for Demoman. Haven't done the map one. Dunno if the contract parameters change but the demo requirements were this:

100 points to finish the contract
1 point for earning a point
2 points for a kill
4 points for killing enemy while you're capping a point
(Bonus advanced) 4 points for a kill while they're capping a point (30 points needed to finish)

When you finish the 100 required points you can turn it in then or do the optional final bonus advanced mission for extra points to level up your merc coin quicker. So basically I got anywhere from three to five points at any given time 'cept on the optional one.

I'm okay with this system. I wouldn't mind it being a permanent fixture for TF2 'cause I'm tired of hats. Weapon cosmetics, which you can see at all times, are A-Okay in my book. It gives a little extra incentive to expand a player's horizons and try more classes and shit to put on the market.

The Air Strike seems to be actually usable now! It's no longer a struggle to get that first kill and jumping at people going pew pew rockets once you've added a few is amazing.

Liberty Launcher's pretty nice too. Five rockets!

I had a Spy contract and a Kill Engineers And Snipers contract, which work together beautifully.

Now if only I had the first idea how to play Spy well.

I am so bummed out. My demoman loadout:

Loch and Load, Chargin' Targe, Ullapool Caber

This was not a good day.

The weapons that drop still sell for a fair amount on the market and probably will for the duration thanks to the cost of entry, so you can actually make back a good chunk of the cost of the ticket. 2 weapons per week with chance of a rare one that sells for more, and the missions are fun enough (I've NEVER played spy properly in 76 years of playing the game, this update made me try it out). Worth it to me!

thats one reason I'm sad its paid. It would be a good way to get people to play other classes. Now I'm not sure who spends the most actual cash on TF2, seems to be vets but I'm not sure whats more normal for vets to stick to one class or play them all out of variety

It's six bucks for three months, unlike the mann up mode where it's a dollar for a one use tour-of-duty ticket and two for an extra loot ticket. More than fair for a completely optional addition if you ask me. You're making mountains out of molehills, aero. One or two good contracts and it's entirely possible to recoup losses and then some. All the guns can be snagged from the market place anyway.

If someone needs six bucks to take the initiative to play other classes their priorities are pretty off kilter.

The weapon cases are now selling for more than the price of the ticket on the community market. Capitalism ho!

LnL was nerfed. Minisentires were buffed a bit and nerfed a bit making it just shimmy in place for me. Engie synergy was nerfed :(. spy got new blood which he desperately needed.

So overall, only a halfhearted pelvic jiggle from Doc rather than vigorous thrusting

Speaking frankly, a lot of the weapons are either ugly or just passably okay- I only really like the lightning-paint ones from one of the crates. The fact that they aren't Strange makes them even less appealing to me. But earning them is fun and if someone wants to give me £2.50 for a slightly off-colour sniper rifle I won't deny him that. It's definitely the missions that are the appeal though.

And hearing Pauling in game.

I'm kind of hoping to get some of the Craftsmann stuff. Oh for a oak veneer minigun.

Also springing out of the shadows like a rocket propelled assassin and splattering heavies with half a dozen rockets to the face is still amazing. I can just tell they're going to nerf the Air Strike.

The only thrusting I'll be doing is from behind...with a knife...

I am implying backstabs...and medic...

After farting around with the air strike today it made me regret not investing less time in practicing the bonk 'n cleaver scout and more time into rocket jumping.

'cause damn, it's a fun as hell weapon now.

So, fyi, the ullapool cabar is 100% broken right now. "Explodes" and deals zero damage to you or your target, just plays the bottle smashing sound.
