Yup, sale time again already. I actually bought a lot of what I wanted during the Thanksgiving sale, so my expenses this time around should be significantly less.

"Should" being the keyword here.

Did you find the comic?

Never Alone (Kisima Ingitchuna) is on sale for less than $4. I'm eyeballing it very hard.

North Pole Noir? Yeah, I saw the day 1 comic.

What's the deal with the mystery cards?

The same deal as always: free pennies. Free-er than usual, this time.

Ok, yeah, I'm totally sold on the holday sale comic now. They're interrogating the elves from last year's holiday sale as suspects.

I haven't bought anything yet, but I did add like a dozen things to my wishlist. I keep finding myself wistfully looking over them and trying to convince myself not to buy them. It's not that I can't, I just ... need ... to resist ...

Like, The Escapists and Crypt of the Necrodancer look so good. What do I even do??

mauve

I can confirm Necrodancer is fantastic.

I can recommend Necrodancer as well.

Since I got a gift card for Steam this Christmas, I think I'm going to go on a lark and get one of those weird steam controllers, since my brother usually has the XBox controller.

Steam is having some Cache errors today, and many are advising not to load your steam gift cards just yet.

Sales are static throughout this sale so don't worry about missing anything big.

Also you might want to unlink your paypal via the paypal website from Steam. Just putting that out there.

Basically, don't log into Steam right now.

Steam appears to have returned with account info correct again, waiting to see official word. Resume festivities.

Ugh, what a nightmare. I really hope phone numbers, credit card numbers and PC/user information weren't compromised.

Surface level stuff (account name, phone number if saved, etc) was able to be seen, annoying but not financially damaging. Critical stuff like addresses, credit card info, and the like was not compromised as that information is heavily encrypted and protected.

Phone number should've only been the last four digits thouh, right?

Arcanum
12-27-2015, 12:28 AM
Yeah, the most anyone would be able to see is the email associated with your steam account, the last 2 digits of a saved credit card, and the last 4 numbers of a saved phone number. Nobody was able to change anything as it was just a caching issue, so they were only seeing a saved copy of a web page and didn't have access to anything critical.

Haven't bought anything this year!

O-oh, jeez! Someone must've... got on my account or something... Curse them, even though we'll probably never know who they are!

I wasn't planning on buying anything this sale, since I haven't finished all my Thanksgiving Sale games yet. But then somehow on the last day I ended up buying Castle Crashers, Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Styx: Master of Shadows and Tex Murphy: Under a Killing Moon.

I'm not sure why I bought Dark Souls, to be honest, but there it is.

You make this sound like some kind of setback. Prepare to be enriched. Or prepare to die, whatever floats your boat.

The ARG is stupid and, at the very most, will result in a Left 4 Dead 3 trailer. If we're exceedingly lucky. More likely it'll be itsfuckingnothing.gif. Mock the delusional fools still grasping at Half-Life related straws, for the franchise is dead and buried.

Got Crypt of the Necrodancer, Escapists, and FTL. Of the three I am enjoying Escapists the most. It's got a really hard learning curve, but once you figure out what you can do, and what you can get away with, it's pretty clever, charming, and engaging. Also, check out this music. Listen to it while doing chores or something, it's great for easy listening.

Necrodancer is pretty groovy as well. Hard as hell, but very fair, and the music alone is deserving of the price tag.

FTL is kinda just argh. Actual gameplay is fun but there's way too much RNG for my tastes. "Easy" mode is a lie.

Also, I learned that Civ BE had an expansion at some point. Which solved many of the legions of problems the vanilla version had. There's a demo available which sold me on picking it up. It's already a lot more enjoyable, even if the AI is still dumb as bricks.

Make sure you grab DSFix before you play it, the game is a broken mess without it.

I ended up buying Life is Strange (full season) and DMC4:SE.

Also RO gifted me Axiom Verge, so I gifted him DMC4:SE out of spite. Or holiday cheer? I'm not quite sure if there's a difference.

And then I bought Helldivers despite it not being on sale because I got some steam gift cards for Christmas. I'm also going to include Dragon's Dogma into my holiday spending retroactively, because I pre-ordered it a few days before the steam sale happened and if I didn't do it then, I would've done it eventually because god damn that game is great.

Here's a link to it on nexusmods. (http://www.nexusmods.com/darksouls/mods/19/?) There are instructions on the page but here's the important bit for convenience:

1) Delete previous version of the mod if you have any
2) Place the contents of the .zip into the game's binary directory. (The place where DARKSOULS.exe is)
(this may be something like C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA)
3) Adjust the settings in DSfix.ini as desired
4) Adjust the keybindings in DSfixKeys.ini as desired
IMPORTANT: turn OFF the in-game AA option, otherwise you *will* get graphical issues

If the game crashes or refuses to start, make sure you aren't running any overlay programs (like MSI Afterburner), and that the in-game AA is off (might be a good idea to boot up the game and turn it off before getting DSFix).

There are a lot of options i the DSfix.ini file (which you can open with a text editor like notepad), but there are good descriptions for everything.

There are also guides to setting it up in the steam community that can be quite helpful. This is the one I used (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=555131325)
