The village I'm in has 1 Pokemon Gym and 3 Pokestops, all reachable from my house. As the oldest I've established pack rules- The Gym is in constant rotation between everyone, and we're all trying to complete our pokedex.

There's not a lot within distance of me aside from churches, but the University I work at/attend has a ton. My current crowning jewel is Scyther, but its really hard to get candies to power him up.

At the moment I am trying to get Golbat since Zubats are crazy standard. I also snatch Venonats when possible because I like Venomoth.

It came out in the UK two days ago and I downloaded it yesterday out of mild curiosity.

I live in a village out on the edge of where the housing becomes "semi-rural". Mostly old retired folks around here. One of the local pubs seems to be a Pokestop. But it's a Weedle Wasteland, otherwise. 100% Weedle. If there's anyone else around here that plays it they probably have a full team of Charizard and 5 Beedrills by now.

Encounters get a bit better as level goes up, I've found, although that'll be hard without pokestops readily available.

Weedles are actually great for leveling up, because they only take 12 to evolve. If you build up a bunch of Weedle candies, then crack a lucky egg and start evolving them all, you'll be getting 1000 experience per 12 Weedle candies, and you can evolve like 60 this way, before your lucky egg runs out.

This happened yesturday at work. I was working the register and a co-worker was whispering to get my attention. So listen in, THERE'S A BULBASAUR RIGHT HERE!

I make sure no customers are managers are near-by. Open it up and, yup. Thats a bulbasaur. She said she thinks we summoned it because literally right before it showed up we were geeking out over our mutual love of pokemon number 1.

As for pokestops. The one thats on my usual walking route gets horrible GPS signal so it just keeps bouncing me around that. Due to this and a pigeot I wasted way too many pokeballs on I'm almost out. Contrast this to my friend who has a pokestop within range of her work desk. So she just has her phone open and every five minutes gets more free stuff.

BUT, before you shoo me out of this thread, I wanted to comment that over around my city of Vancouver, saw on the Skytrain news that someone has established a chauffeuring service dedicated to driving people around the city for the specific purpose of catching pokemon, at an hourly rate.

So yeah, it's a big thing around here in the west coast of Canada.

Yeah, I saw some businesses that are offering "Pokemon specials", such as one place that said that if someone catches a pokemon in their resteraunt, they got a choice of a free bottle of water, juice, or lemonade. Soda was 50 cents though, because taxes, and wanting to steer people to better choices.

It's amazing how big this got. Kind of brings back some fond memories I had of my childhood during the late 90s/early 2000s.

I haven't caught all that much since I'm still phoneless and can only sign in (my brief pokemon TCG online experience years go has paid off nicely) using my little sister's phone whenever I have to borrow it before going out. Even she's starting to get into the pokemon go craze and I didn't even think she liked pokemon (never seemed to care much about it out side of mini games and occasionally my copy of Pokemon Y when she sees me playing it).

At this point, I'm certainly at least mildly addicted to the game. My office is on our downtown square which boasts 6 pokestops within a small radius and a gym next to our building. From the office itself, I can access 1 pokestop and whatever spawns in our little plaza so I've been able to keep up with my less casual friends.

I'll usually walk a few laps around the square during my lunch breaks which is great because I've been needed to start up some sort of exercise routine. Also, everyone I know seems to think it's great that I now know what the hell their talking about when they spout off the names of various pokemon (this is the first pokemon game I've played).

At the end of this month, one of our local bar owners is putting together a pokemon pub crawl. Considering my aim already sucks (fuck zubats!) it should be interesting to see how I do after a few beers.

I was at Disneyland this week and I can't tell you how many people I saw playing Pokemon Go while waiting in lines. A teenager catching zubats in the Buzz Lightyear queue, a kid telling a cast member where she could catch the Cubone she was looking for, people teaching other people in line how to play... It never really did that to begin with. That was mostly hype and faulty reporting. Niantic is a spin-off subsidiary of Google. It's why you can log in with Google's infrastructure. It sees as much of your email account as any other thing that let's you use Google's single sign-on.

I've been playing it a bit, but since the game has recently been bugged to show all pokemon as being 3 paw-prints away (i.e. the max distance) I haven't had the motivation to play. Also when I tried leaving the app open to hatch eggs, after two or so minutes the app would just stop registering my inputs but still track my location. However when I reset it to fix the input thing it loses my egg progress, so that's super disappointing.

Actually if you signed into the app on an iphone using your google account then the app would get full permissions for your account, which did include all sorts of information as well as the ability to send and receive emails on your behalf.

Obviously nothing was done with these permissions, as the app was never designed to utilize those things in the first place, and the most important part is that that bug/oversight has since been patched out.

So you've got nothing to worry about Mauve, give it a go.


Also if anyone is interested, you can force your Eevees to evolve into a specific evolution instead of relying on RNG. Just name your Eevee one of these three names:

Sparky = Jolteon
Rainer = Vaporeon
Pyro = Flareon

The names are from the Eevee Brothers in the Pokemon anime.

There's a hefty reddit thread (3000 comments) (https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/4t0cpo/psa_how_to_force_your_eevee_to_evolve_into_your/?st=iqx5fonz&sh=51acfa22) with people supporting the claim throughout it. Obviously not all 3k comments are confirming it but you can find them. To add to it, my brother named his Rainer and got a Vaporeon (I already evolved an Eevee before hearing about this and don't have enough candies to evolve another).

The people claiming it didn't work might not have had the name go through to the server, which is entirely possible given the amount of server issues the game has.

If anyone wants to attempt this then restart your app after renaming your eevee and make sure the name was saved before evolving.

IGN Wiki claims the game consumes 4-8mb of data per hour when it's active.

So around my neighbourhood, there's two pokestops (one pub, the cricket club) and two gyms (the other pub, the church). It's only Pidgeys, Rattatas, Spearows and Weedles here, and not that frequently either. I did see a Drowzee once. That's about it. Not even enough for some power-catching and evolving. But I'm only trainer level 3... may check out town sometime and see if there's something exciting like, I dunno, Magikarp.

There are some variances within one spot as well. Where I usually hunt, its almost all grass/poison/bug/normal/flying types, but a couple of nights ago, I managed to snag an Abra and had a Pikachu escape from me. I'll also find the occasional water type.

So what I didn't mention was that a bunch of kids were throwing insults at me too for sitting on my porch and playing, and the younger kids on scooters told a bunch of the older kids that had met me too; so the gym got totally locked down, and I got some door knocks from friendly players who wanted to make sure that the little shits hadn't upset me too badly. Which was really nice of them!

I really like the sense of community around here. We used Pokevision and ran around tracking pokemon tonight for the last 2+ hours.

The most likely culprit is the app not connecting properly to the server, or not properly pulling the data. Could be because of server issues, but might also be your phone's connection.

The "middle of the ocean" thing could be the map terrain not actually loading. I've had that happen to me before as well when the servers were having issues. Some times it has defaulted to the water texture, while others it defaulted to a blank green field.

If you think your app is properly connected and you want to make sure there are no pokemon near you, then do the following:

Go to this site: https://pokevision.com/

Click the crosshair looking icon in the top right to have it automatically find your location, or enter in your location manually in the box in the top right, or zoom out and then zoom in to your location.

Click the big red button that says find pokemon near you.

That site pulls data directly from the app/Niantic, so will accurately show what pokemon are currently nearby and how long until they despawn.

If nothing shows up near you on that site, then there's most likely no nearby pokemon.

If pokemon do show up on the site, but not on your app, then it's probably connection issues, which would also explain the lack of pokestops.

Thanks. It wasn't working by my office at all today, but when I went about fifteen miles to the next city over after work (both cities are equally large), suddenly pokemon were everywhere. So it was either a server/connection issue, or the town where I work is a horrible pokemonless wasteland and all the pokemon hang out in a place that's juuuust too far to visit on my lunch break. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.

I walked 10 km a few days ago and got my favorite pokemon, Aerodactyl, from an egg! It was an amazing victory.

Today I walked 10 km and got Evee. On the brightside, it gave me the resources to get Vaporeon, the last eveelution on my list. On the downside though, there are Evees EVERYWHERE here I would've done that anyways.

The gyms on the West side of my town seem to be solidly Mystic controlled. The Eastern half is solidly Instinct. It's like Arkham City with Blanche and Sparks instead of Penguin and Joker.

I've only been able to play a little bit during my lunch breaks. Still level 3. Caught two eevees, a bunch of pidgeys, a female nidoran, a polywag, and a krabby. Starter is charmander. Highest cp so far is a 55 pidgey named Rotisserie.

Basically, tracking was originally passable if spotty at best. Then the three step bug popped up...and stuck around. Because of Niantic's track record of taking exorbitantly long periods of time to fix even the smallest of issues folk took it on themselves to supplement PGO with third party maps like PokeVision. All was well with the players for the time being. But Niantic pitched a fit and pooped its diaper because reasons. 3rd party map tools which existed to shore up Niantic's adamant refusal, re: inability, to properly and promptly fix their shit have all gone dark.

Its are ratings plummeting fast, especially so in the Japanese app market where it was a huge hit. I don't really see this game having much of a future if this is the way they intend on operating. But hey, on the upside this update has worked wonders on my phone's battery life.

Did our Pokemon Pub Crawl on Saturday which was fun. Nothing like seeing a sea of people in shirts for Team Instinct and those other, lesser teams getting drunk and chasing pidgeys.

After walking around a bit, my group decided to plant ourselves at a hookah lounge within range of a pokestop.

There's a park in a nearby city that doles out rare pokemon pretty liberally. I heard that Electabuz spawned near an art installation there. The wife and I visited to find the place awash in pokestops (so many that we were never out of rage of at least two the whole time we were there and most, if not all of them were lured) and though we didn't get an Electabuz, we did walk out of there with three new Jynx for our half-hour stroll. The park has two gyms as well, but they rise and fall so quickly that holding them longer than a few minutes is laughable.

It only counts distance traveled if the app is open, and the screen is on.

It's dumb, yeah.

Also, it is really bad at counting running - I went for a mile run, it counted 0.2km of it.

The egg counter is not the greatest because it uses your phone's GPS instead of the actual pedometer and the GPS is glitchy as heck and doesn't really work right if you move over 20 miles an hour (to prevent people from just driving around a lot to hatch eggs).

Your magikarp will cap off at around 262 CP (At level 40). But absolutely grind that Karp to it's ultimate potential anyway, and then evolve it. Might as well through all your faith in your fishy.

Jesus, this game is not for me. I must've walked around 3km and I got one ekans and one zubat and one of those was only because my map freaked out and teletransported me to a place that just happened to have one poke. Also, I live in a really desolated place with only two or three PokeStops around. Double also, due to it being a remote place I'm really wary of hanging around with my smartphone out like a doofus.

I really wish I could trade stuff or give it to people instead of trashing it when my bag is full. I happen to be blessed with many PokeStops on my morning commute (which is walking and some bus riding) so now I've got like 311 pokeballs and 55 greatballs stashed away that could really be doing some good somewhere else.

Vaporeon was so OP though. We're swimming in Eevees in my town, so every gym would always have two or three Vaporeons on top. Now, though Vaporeons are still really good, there's room for using other creatures.

I caught this guy in the parking lot at my work the other day at 1522 CP. He's my favorite so far. Solar beam is so nice for taking down Vaporeons.

Some friends and I went to a nearby college town to visit and explore what kind of pokemon related fun we could. Here are some highlights:

There are a lot of Drowzee to be caught in college towns, feasting off the sleepless fevered dreams of students.

We saw a Porygon on our radar near the computer sciences building.

Also, the king of the city is apparently on team Mystic, and he's.....a very dedicated player.

Shenanigans. My college town doesn't seem to have any drowzees. I do have Eevees coming out of my ears though.

There's a pokestop by my office called "Hip Hop Art Behind Dumpster." Seems legit.

I found out that you can only collect on ten gyms a day no matter how many gyms you control. I'm a little sad about that.
