One thing that came to my mind about Pierce and Renny's comparitive "idealism"... Renny's is more about personal philosophy. Something in a way that guides his own life and choices (which kinda make sense since he's still growing up and making choices). Pierce's idealism (aside from sounding as if he was in a hollywood movie) seems a bit on the impersonal and more general idealism about what he hopes the outcome would be.
Mind you, I still think it came out sounding like it was rather out of character, so I thought Pierce was ALREADY DRUNK.
