"So, how to tell your Doctor's an ass." or This Really Happened.

I recently had a set of events that culminated in my mother and me getting a new family physician for ourselves because our previous one turned out to be a complete ass.

We didn't really compare notes till a couple months ago and found out we had similar experiences and were given similar treatment by him. The man treated us like crap and we left his appointments feeling either bad about going to him or worse.

What he never told us for the entire time we saw him was he was allergic to cats and felt they were the root of all evil (at least medically). He made comments that made me think he hated Cats but no idea he was allergic to them.

This coupled with how he commented to me about my like of video games was what I got along with being told anything I was feeling was something else instead of at least checking it; most notably that I have a slight Tachycardia and BOTH sides of my family have histories of heart problems and strokes. Another one was back issues I was getting and instead of taking into account me telling him of a family history on my dad's side of this; telling me to walk 2 miles every day and to stop smoking (though I don't smoke, Asthma).

What brings about me posting this is we finally found out he is the reason we were dealing with the county Human Services the last couple of days as he filed a few reports against me and/or my mother and started what could of been me having to fight to keep from being assigned a Legal Guardian by the county. The fact we changed doctors means it has been stopped completely but I don't think he is happy we did. He was also never happy I sought out my own specialist for my Crohn's and my mother confirmed he was also not happy having to reccomend a specialist for her Orthopedic problems.

Needless to say, if you leave your appointments feel angry or upset and maybe even worse than when you went in AND you feel he is not listening to your concerns, it is time to get a new doctor and don't be afraid to complain about the fact you felt the person is an ass.

I am being serious for once here. The last bit was working off a little steam and anger by imagining the asshole in that situation.

If you want people to take your thread even remotely seriously then not including that nonsense is a good start? Especially when it's the last impression.

Well played.

Your doctor is there to do a job, but you need to be able to trust them. Trust is a key aspect of the doctor patient relationship and if it isn't present, you may be with the wrong doctor.

If I couldn't trust my doctor I wouldn't be comfortable putting my health in their hands.

That's the thing, we were refered to him when our previous doctor before him retired. We thought we were in good hands. :|

But yeah, trust is a key in any relationship and this doc shot it to hell if I had any left with this bullcrap that I had to go through with Human Services.
