I was kind of like an anti-goth, but not in any way that was patently preppy. It was actually pretty cool, because it allowed me to pull friends from literally every social clique.

I sort of acquired a goth label when I started wearing leather, though it wasn't what I was after and I lacked most of the traits assorted with it (dyed black hair, make-up, melodrama, etc). I could see where it came from, but I didn't think much of goths because I saw my depressive streak as something to overcome rather than embrace. My stupidity was centered less around angsty poetry and more around not realizing what showing up to school in a leather miniskirt says to people. I learned quickly.
