Default Games WITH Soundtracks

So, instead of games with songs made for them, i'm putting this here to talk about games with songs on them.

Too complex? yeah... kinda thought so too...

Basically, games that have collections of songs by other artists. You know, like Need For Speed does it all the time.

So, i would just like to point out that Smackdown Vs Raw 2010 not only is really fun game and a nice time waster, i was surprised by a very nice Soundtrack in it.

Here are some of the songs:

You're going down

Hero

Still Unbroken

Invencible

Monster

So, not only the songs actually match the feeling of the game... for me, they just sound great.

So, other instances of games like this that caught your attention?

Rock Band

e: is it me or does You're Going Down sound a hell of a lot like Blue Monday during verses?

e2: okay some actually serious examples: Brütal Legend comes to mind, rather unsurprisingly since the game has kind of a thing about metal. It's pointed me towards some very good stuff outside my usual range of genres, too. Then of course there's basically any GTA game or GTA clone since Vice City, just to get the obvious ones out of the way. I think Vice City was even the first one where the amount of licensed music was actually a very big deal. At least the one where I noticed.

I think Def Jam: Fight for NY had a bit of a selection too but didn't songs only play in menu and shop screens there? It's been a while.

What about ATV Offroad Fury 2? It's the first time I heard The Lost Prophets sing Shinobi Versus Dragon Ninja. Then there's The Key To Grammercy Park and 8 Cylinder Jam, and Don't Be Afraid.

Vice City had the best soundtrack overall - the rest were alright and I did appreciate Lakeside in San Andreas but the 80s hits in VC ruled.

The Bioshock and Fallout serieseses introduced me to a bunch of super-old music that's surprisingly good, if only ironically. There's something very satisfying about "Beyond the Sea" in a first-person shooter.

Cage the Elephant kicks ass. This cutscene was the best part of the game, and I'm glad I was introduced to this fantastic band.

I really hope the guy who wrote/directed Borderlands gets other games to work on that don't suck so bad - he's really talented.

EDIT: on Brutal Legend, I was impressed by the fact that Tim Schafer actually tracked down all the artists for songs he wanted in the game and asked them permission for each one. It would have been cheaper and faster to just get an entire recording license. I applaud his commitment to throwing the horns.

The level where you recruit the headbangers was really well put together, and it's something satisfying about having a boss fight to Rob Zombie - Superbeast.

The World Ends with You kind of applies, even if the music was composed specifically for the game.

Three Minutes Clapping
The One Star
Owari-Hajimari
O-Parts
Transformation
Emptiness and

<3 Love it. Goddamn, it's like my favourite soundtrack of this gen.

I'd say it is a good toss up between Devil May Cry 3 (which has music that was made for it, but sounds like legit death and speed metal) and, loathe as I am to admit it, GTA: San Andreas (Welcome To The Jungle never felt so appropriate).

Wipeout Pulse has a pretty nice collection of trance and electronica tracks from varies DJs.

Wipeout Pure's got a good completion too though it's mostly a mix of different themes (unlike it's sequel pulse which was centered on one theme.)

And then there's Jet Grind Radio's great sound track.

How can you mention the music of Wipeout without including the funky Prodigy karaoke of Wipeout 2097?

The Burnout series does this as well. It seems extremely focused on racing games. I'm not ashamed to admit I like every one of the like ten versions of Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" in Burnout Dominator
