Default His claiming to be messing with the media, etc., is backpeddling, I'd say.

From now on, the word for prejudice against a given religion and/or its practitioners is "blasphemy".

Glad I could help.

Hmm. Point. It is very pop-culture Voodoo, and popular portrayals of minority religions are almost never a good thing. And clearly whoever did this doesn't take the perceived supernatural beliefs of that religion very seriously, or this would really count as attempted murder. I would argue that this is probably the best use of a popular portrayal of voodoo I have ever seen, especially given the clear intended irony, but I'll grant given the circumstances that, in retrospect, it probably isn't in the best taste.

I hear the term "religious bigotry" bandied about in the same context as racism etc. Though bigoted might be too strong a term to apply to this instance.

EDIT: I'll take blasphemy.

Well everything that Limbaugh does is to make people act or seem uninformed on his show using logical fallacies. My personal favorite is comparing the urgency behind Haiti's destructive earthquakes and people in need to the Christmas Day bomber who was caught and detained. The fact that he uses such inane, pointlessly misogynistic terms to do it just solidifies how batshit crazy he really is.

I love how the caller demands to know why he said 'don't donate,' but then when he says 'Obama's office will steal money' she doesn't bat an eyelash.

EDIT: Oh the whole "messing with the media" and "I love people who flip out" is most certainly backpedaling. It's Limbaugh's 'I meant to do that.'

But that just means that we don't have a word for "not giving religion the respect its authorities say it's entitled to" anymore!

On a different note, response to the quake has been rather impressive.

I've heard it's topping the response to that tsunami a few years back, which really buoyed my faith in people when it happened.

The most pertinent thing applied to Pat Robertson:

I love the pure, peaceable, and impartial Christianity of Christ: I therefore hate the corrupt, slaveholding, women-whipping, cradle-plundering, partial and hypocritical Christianity of this land. Indeed, I can see no reason, but the most deceitful one, for calling the religion of this land Christianity. I look upon it as the climax of all misnomers, the boldest of all frauds, and the grossest of all libels.
That describes Robertson. Also, some blog post I also think makes good points in analyzing Robertson's motivations.

Sorry, I know we don't usually discuss religion, but I just wanted to show why no sensible person should confuse most of Christianity with Robertson's brand of it.

I can't believe that entire thread, and seven pages of bashing Robertson and Rush, but not a single mention of Danny Glover, who was probably just as stupid as those two?

Mr. Glover blamed the earthquake on Global Warming and our failure to act on it.

"What happened in Haiti could happen to anywhere in the Caribbean because all these island nations are in peril because of global warming. When we see what we did at the climate summit in Copenhagen, this is the response, this is what happens, you know what I'm sayin'?"

But... wah?

Okay, I don't think he meant to say "Global warming leads to earthquakes" but more like... "Other places could end up like Haiti is right now because global warming leads to disasters (floods, hurricanes, I guess?)."

It's still weird, though. Especially given the second sentence.
