@Sith: That was literally the first thing that came to mind when you asked to be dwarfed.

This isn't an update sadly, but I wanted to let y'all know I haven't forgotten about you. This is the list of things that needs to happen before you guys get more FUN:blood, vomit, and fire:

I need to finish this week's physics homework.

I need to finish three calculus assignments.

I'm going tonight to take a qualification test to become a census worker because I'm broke in college.

I need to at least start on my computer engineering and computer science homeworks for next week since I'll be out of town all weekend.

When the smoke clears, I'll probably be able to get an update done some time tomorrow.

This is, what?
A week's amount of work?

If it's more than a week, wouldn't it be easier to skip on to the next in line?
I have no objection to it taking a little bit to update, but if it's gonna take 4 weeks for the next entry... well.

Just a question.

Clearly somewhere on that list is the mastery of time-travel. He'll get it all done, then come back and do the DF LP session. We won't even remember being frustrated, it will never have been.

Which will be awesome. Using time travel to save important figures or rewriting your own past? Pfft, that's nothing compared to keeping dwarves happy!

Wow, Just read through this entire thread. I would like to volunteer for both a dwarfing, and a chance to run this later.

While have played DF before, I havn't done a LP. If I say something stupid, please call me out on it.

Regarding the economicon...

Would it be feasible to leave it be? Simply swept along the undead river, never to be found again? Lost, as it were, forever?

...

Well, not forever. I almost guarantee that it'd be found again. Admittedly, not in this LP, but still.

Default I'm back from the FUUUUUTUUUUUURE

3rd Felsite

On the third, one of the haulers finally brought me the census information so I could select some new miners.

Heh:

I love a good practical joke as much as the next dwarf, but when the butt of your joke can train beasts five times your size you're probably asking to be introduced to the sharp end of a unicorn.

I leafed through a few more pages in high spirits.

"WHAT?!"

I burst out of my apartment turned office waving one of the pages:

"Why the hell didn't anyone tell me about this sooner?!"

"Overseer?"

"Gods, you'd think the fact that we're under attack would be news. That maybe the damn overseer should know about it! But I have to find it out from the godsdamn CENS-"

"You mean the prisoners?"

I had tossed the sheet in my excitement and one of my former colleagues was now eyeing it quizzically.

"Yeah, I'm sure of it. I thought it'd be fun to go poking around some of the more out of the way sections of the fort and I found this stockpile full o' goblins in cages."

I closed my eyes and drew a breath: "I need more beers to deal with this shit."

"Sir?"

"Nothing. Listen, uh, Sithdarth was it?"

"yes?"

I motioned him over: "how does the title 'Chief Engineer of Workgill' sound?"

"Pretty damn good"

"I thought so. This never happened"

"Deal."

10th Felsite

I had Sithdarth draw me up some schematics to help me make sense out of this place. It's bigger than I'd imagined. The mining tunnels stretch for miles and snake up and down and around the Styx. With this labyrinth I suppose I should be surprised we have even one miner left much less with the undead infesting the river as well. I'll have to remember to ask him how he keeps it all straight.

I won't be making any trips through them though, I'll stick to my gears and ballistas, thanks.

In other news: Holy crap!

It's one thing to hear that the fort you live in has struck adamantine. It's another beast entirely to be overseer and find out you have fucking VAULTS of the stuff.

I need to have the metalworkers practice on a bunch of junk so they'll be able to make the good stuff with this.

12th Felsite

Huh, Immigrants. Maybe they heard about the goblin zoo.

Still though, a months long trek through undead infested wasteland couldn't have been easy...

Ah, they brought help. That explains it. Also of note, another wrestler who's already making himself at home in the barracks, another miner(!), a siege operator, some craftsdwarves, and a few peasants (miner recruits).

I decided to check in with Viridis to see how the inventory was coming along. I finally found him in his office looking scruffy and wild eyed.

"Uh, Hey Viridis, that inventory gonna take much longer?"

"Do you have ANY idea how much shit we have?!"

He slammed the door and I thought the better of knocking again.

16th Felsite

So apparantly every Don, Crick, and Urist in this fort has been going out of their fucking way to make sure that their jobs take them past Thadius' sinkhole only to run like fucking elves as soon as they catch sight of the undead thirty feet below them!

There's also a disturbingly detailed account of a couple of cats trying and failing to "store an item in the stockpile". Whatever the fuck THAT means. From what I gather from the note (and the sloppily scratched out betting pool on the back) there were about twenty dwarves just watching a pair of injured cats dragging themselves along by their crippled legs, or fangs, or I don't even fucking know what.

Bah, if these elves are so fucking scared of a hole in the ground I'll have 'em pave the thing over.

I'm not nearly drunk enough for this.

Bah, missed the thursday night deadline. Damn post took longer to write than I thought. It's 12:40 now, and I started it at 11:20.

That still counts as Thursday Night in my book. It isn't the new day until you go to sleep!

I am enjoying seeing the fort in ASCII art. After being so well acquainted with the fort it's like revisiting your favourite places, but only with retro art.

Default Wigmund's Journal

3rd of Felsite, 60

Another dwarf is discovering the joys of overseer-hood. I believe this one has just discovered the goblins living in the basement.

Wonder if he knows about the elf corpses at the bottom of the Grand Pit?
Guess we'll find out soon.

That's why the Disciple was pissed. Though he'll probably show up again when the HFS is re-opened.
