Video Games The Humble Indie Bundle

I'd been meaning to make a thread about this, but I didn't realize it would be available for a limited time and procrastinated. Bollocks.

Point being there's a bundle of independent games being sold for the very fair price of whatever you're prepared to pay, including at least two I'd heard good things of, World of Goo and Gish. Not only is the price more than fair, there's also no DRM on these games whatsoever, and if that alone wasn't reason enough to support the idea you can also pick whether you'd like your money to go to the developers or to charity (Child's Play is in on this, for example) or to both. For me this is pretty much the ideal way digital distribution should work.

Unfortunately there's only about 10 hours left on this deal now but it seems to be a quick process. Extended, apparently! Check the site for the actual time left.

http://www.wolfire.com/humble

e: full list of games:

World of Goo
Aquaria
Gish
Lugaru HD
Penumbra
Samorost 2

Also the 10 hours are only the time limit for purchase - once you've purchased it you can download them again whenever you want (and, of course, you can keep your own backups thanks to the lack of DRM).

e2: all games are available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X

People have been pirating this game. Despite the lack of DRM, being able to name your own price, and the money going to charity.

What jerks.

I suggest getting this great bundle. World of Goo alone is worth it.

Edit: Apparently a couple of the games will release their source code if they hit the million dollar mark.

I sent them some money, so the whole donation thing is still go.

I heard about people pirating this. Seriously sad.

Seriously, they will take a fucking penny and you still get the goods. I mean, what the hell?

According to some quick math they did, around 25% of the downloads were pirates.

They posted some theories why, and some are pretty understandable like:
Quote:
#

Some users may want to share the bundle with their friends, and decide that it's easier to just make one donation for a larger amount than it is to make separate gift donations.
#

Some users may live in countries where none of our three processors (PayPal, Google Checkout, and Amazon) are accepted. These users might pay if they could, but they feel that they have no choice but to search for shared copies.
The other reasons were bullshit, like being too lazy or sticking it to the man(it's for charity for Christ's sake).

Pretty surprising. Plus apparently one IP downloaded a little over 10 gb of a package thats about 800 mb. If it wasnt a proxy, whoever it was was an idiot. Given that it's the same IP,they are probably on the same network(unless it's a proxy) and local network transfers would of been the most reasonable choice>.<

You can still donate and get these for the next couple of days. I did so.

There's really no reason not to donate something here. Pirating them is just crazy...
