Video Games Dungeon Fighter Online.

Or DFO. My brother started playing this because an old friend of ours got him into it. Since I'm going off to college, I figured it would be a way to keep in contact during the week. It's got an hour-long download time, which makes me wonder what the heck takes that much space since it's in the style of an arcade brawler and relies on the same <20 sprites and palette swaps like fish rely on water, but the music is actually quite good and they ape the style wonderfully. I actually took a look at it about six months or something back and determined it was underdeveloped, but they've added a ton since then and it's actually getting quite respectable, with more coming soon.

Anyone else play this or feel like taking a look? I can't say much else about it yet since I haven't played, but they've got a burgeoning class system going and it seems functional.

Yes, I played it. I had to stop because it had just came out and there were a LOT of gold farmers. I may restart it next week just for old times sake. If I don't reinstall RO first...

Anyway, I played as a Paladin who had a good amount of strength with a lot of healing spells. The Brawler was great for speed fighting. Overall, even though the Paladin/Priest is lagging behind others with his slower speed, he more than made up for it with his power. Still there were other classes that outclassed the Paladin like it was nothing, even with his healing.

If you like quasi 3D elements in a 2D setting plus the fact that it's free, you'll love DFO. I don't know how it'll be now but I still had fun with the "random" dungeon tiles and the various difficulty settings.

Everyone but the Priest has 4 sub-classes established now and they're working on the 4th for him. I hear they're also working on a new Thief class.

I suppose it might be a good idea to link to the site for informational purposes:

Yeah, they changed it a lot since I played. The Female Gunner is new (though why they changed him to a she is beyond me.)

Now how is a Thief supposed to be different from a Slayer and a Fighter? Unless he can steal from everything, that's kinda stretching the core classes.

I guess the Female Gunner is a play tweak to the Male Gunner, but with a few different skills and not quite finished yet (she has no level 48 Awakening). The Male Gunner is still in there.

As for the Thief, I have no idea what they're going to be doing with it. I just heard they were working on one from my brother. It could very well be they make it a dual-wielder for double hits or something and let it steal HP, MP, and/or stat points along with items. Plus it opens the door for trap-based combat if that's not already in there. We'll see when they release it.

Edit: Apparently, Japan already has it as well as alternate sexes for all the classes and the North American team is over a year behind. That's... disappointing.

Edit^2: The Female Thief looks like it does, in fact, dual-wield from the art, so one would assume it's an option for the Male Thief.

UPDATE: Made a Male Gunner. He plays almost exactly like Legend of Mana with a bow-user. This is a good thing. I was really nervous about choosing probably one of the "harder" classes to start with, but if you know what you're doing with the aiming, it's generally quite easy to keep a space buffer between yourself and your foes and juggle them and there's a bit of auto-aiming just to make him especially forgiving.

I've played it, I think to the point I got a Crusader, but then I kinda stopped because of shiny things and other distractions.

Most Nexon games from Korea/Japan/Whatever do this. I think the rest of the world is even more behind, but I dunno. It's been awhile since I kept track of Nexon games.

It just disappoints me because by all means, the hardest parts are all done. They already have all the graphics and code. Heck, they even have all the voice acting done already, according to people messing with the files. The only thing left is translating text. And it's not like they're worrying about winning any writing awards, here. It could use some polish with the translations. Also, they have a weird thing where it looks like all the apostrophes have a space in front of them.

I mean, really, it's not like there's even that much text to translate. Between the sexes, it's only a difference of a few attacks per class to come up with a name and brief description for. The rest is all recycled from what I can tell.

I suppose they might just do a dump when they finish everything for the Thieves. That's how I'd do it, anyway. On the other hand, the team doesn't seem above leaving things unfinished, either, what with the missing Priest class and the Female Gunner not having an Awakening.

EDIT: Just made a Priest. Good grief is he ever slow! Think I'll make a Slayer next. I'm considering taking all male classes and sitting tight for however long it takes for the alternate sexes to come.

I played a while back when the open beta first started, and got a Fighter (Brawler? Monk? I forget the name, but it;s the puncher and grappler guy) up to level 26. I lost interest in the game shortly after that point because the person I was playing with (My brother) powerleveled to over level 30 while I was away for a weekend, and I wasn't going to try and keep up with him.

Unfortunately, I lost the password to the account, and I have no idea what the email I used to make the account so I can't recover it. Nexon's customer support is absolute shit, too, which just put me off from trying to restart.

All in all though, DFO was a lot of fun. it started to feel REALLY grindy near the end, as I suddenly went from doing a dungeon once/twice with quests to level up to nine/ten runs with repeatable quests for a single level up. Not to mention, some of the dungeons are hell (I HATE SHADOW THUNDERLAND, AND SO MANY QUESTS REQUIRE MULTIPLE TRIPS THROUGH THERE).

Dude, seriously, I warned you. XD

Out of all the classes they dumped on the healing class. He's great with magic but he's seriously a Luigi Mario, not a Mario Mario.
