maybe I'm cynical, but I dont think the president, as a human being, has any real influence. That he or she is for the most part just a representative of their political party and their whims are what really shapes policies. I would argue that Democrat VS Republican and even Liberal VS Conservative are inaccurate portrayals of of the current political conflict in the US. Personally I find Authoritarian VS Anti-Authoritarian much more accurately descriptive. By framing the struggle as D VS R and L VS C, the Authoritarians are able to get people to continue to vote for them regardless of party affiliation.
