Really, it will probably happen during any sporting event. It's pretty much a mob mentality excuse thinly disguised as sport related patriotism.

I quite recall reading about a fan who moved from America to BC but was loudly cheering for America during the Vancouver Olympics who was forcefully removed from the scene. Granted, it's pretty gutsy to cheer for the "enemy team" when you're in the midst of all the other supporters. :3

Kinda similar to now. If you're in BC, especially in Vancouver, and you aren't cheering for the Canucks, it's generally saner to at least not paint a bullseye on your chest by mocking them or cheering for their opposition.
