It's worth noting that "Moomons" are not "Mormons". I just used the word to go w/ the cow-pun theme. The "polygamy" thing is just cos I thought it would be funny to show how ignorant Liz and Kit are, and how they'd be religious out of convenience (Which is the wrong thing to do -- Liz and Kit generally do the wrong thing). I don't want to pick on a specific religious group. I also don't want to pick on religion in general, just certain elements/misinterpretations of it. Boozloaf isn't here to show "Oh them stupid religious people, look at how stupid they are." He's actually a nice guy and helpful, but a bit naive and easily taken advantage of. That's just him, there will be other Moomons and other religious types later who won't be that way. Booz is relatively young and full of optimistic zeal and good humor, I don't think of him as an expression of "what's wrong" with religious types. In fact I kinda think about him as expressing more about what's right about them. It'll be more clear later

EDIT: I don't say the above cos I'm worried about offending people. I mean, I highly doubt I'm going to get through this comic w/o offending anyone, and I'm not going to fret over it. The reason I don't want to "pick on religion" is because it seems kind of cliche, and unfair, and if I did so I'd just be showing my own ignorance. There's really no way to make fun of "religion" without coming across as having an incredibly shallow understanding of it. I understand that religious denominations and their principles are too varied and complex to just lump them all together in one easy to make fun of body. Besides, I'm not sure what the story would gain by making jabs at religion "for the lulz".

I can't leave religion or religious people out of the comic though. Religion and religious people are a very important part of how the West was established (Manifest Destiny), so they gotta be in it. But that doesn't give them immunity to criticism and jokes either. I won't go out of my way to jab at someone, and I won't make fun of someone because they're religious. I might make fun of them due to how they behave on an individual level but that's different. In other words, I'll be making fun of the tree, not the forest

I mainly wanted to point out Moomons aren't Mormons cos if I have them do something the Mormons wouldn't do, I don't want people to say "That's not what Mormons believe!" Moomons aren't Mormons and so they aren't going to share the same principles. If they do, it's a coincidence (in fact, they may not actually be polygamous. Liz could have just assumed so for whatever reason).

Actually you did a marvelous job linking up various elements of the Mormon faith, and I doubt anyone believes you're going for a direct transplant anyway (see: Rule of Funny).

Boozloaf is interesting simply because with all the Mormon-esque references, they actually do send out the younger gentlemen (college-age usu.) to do missionary (moossionary?) work.

So far I like his character.

Irony question: Is Boozloaf a tea-totaller (no alcohol)?
