Regardless, we need more sane Republicans like this guy, (and then watch as he turns out to be completely horrible in every aspect not mentioned in the article, or something), or someone, anyone to keep the batshit ones in check.

to be fair a real republican doesn't hate the poor, they hate government intervention. Higher spending on welfare and other programs means higher taxes on workers and of course the fear that government is inherently corrupt. Shame they didn't listen to their own advice cause alot of the republican party, aren't actually republicans. Remember all the crap Bush did, well whole point of the original Republican principals was to keep that stuff from happening.

However the rich noticed that less government intervention meant it was alot easier to do whatever the hell they wanted so that was the party they sided with. Then over time realizing instead of removing policies that restrict them if they increase government control they could place ones that help them and since the richest members were also the party leaders this soon became their tactic.

Most people's other issues is more about conservative vs liberal. As I stated before the inherent problem with conservative mindset is that they fixate on keeping America the same with the most extreme believing the same as it was in 1776. With their being some obvious problems with pushing 200 year old economic, political, and moral policies.

Snake, I realize you're terrible with women, but guessing their age is rarely wise, and assuming they're older than they are is a death sentence.

actual-ontopic-edit: That's fairly fascinating if that's how the Republicans became what they are today. It's all very complicated/confusing trying to figure out what each party wants as a whole when trying to look past "evil, evil, evil, evil, evil," and is the primary reason why I personally dislike the party system.

as a disclaimer thats inductive reasoning based on the party's stated principals and how it actually behaves in modern times. Logical to think thats how it happened and circumstantial evidence supports it, but impossible to prove the reasoning behind their evolution. I doubt any political party was founded with the mindset of, lets dick over everyone else.

Personally I wish the moderate party still existed, maybe then we wouldn't be forced to choose between two extremes every four years

Short answer, no. Considering the liberal leanings of this forum that would just be inviting a rather pointless argument. Besides many of my views align more with what modern democratic party represents so I am bias. That being said I have no doubt there are perfectly reasonable and understanding individuals that still view what I see as reasonable as being too far into the opposite extreme.

In other words, I do not think I have the perspective to answer that question. Nor am I so arrogant to think that the party I most heavily lean to is entirely in the right just because they agree with me.
