"Who Was Jack The Ripper?" or "He Just Liked To Murder A Little..."

I mean, we've all been there, right?

I picked up a copy of American Serial Killers, which seems to be well-researched (if mixed with a few poor editing choices) but the first killer they research is Jack The Ripper. They mention the letters, a movies and literature a bit, as well as touching on the victims.

I've been interested in Mr. Ripper since... well, for a while now. I've always been fascinated by the macabre. And while I thought that we could have a needlessly in-depth conversation into why, and how, and who all is featured in the above linked movie, I thought we might focus our attention on the most famous one. Where he was never caught.

Yes - never caught. Jack The Ripper could be out there right now! In your neighborhood! On your street! Help stop him now before it's too late!

They mentioned him specifically because he was the 'first' mass publicized serial killer; sending letters to the press and all that.

I think the thinking is, since all and any leads on who Jack the Ripper was have long since been lost, though he started in England, he could very well have hopped a boat to the States sometime in the past.

That's the scary thing about serial killers. You just NEVER KNOW.

Unless it's me. I seem to be a serial killer of threads on this forum.

Yeah, the three prevailing lines of thought are 1) He died 2) They caught him at some point for something and never found out it was him or 3) He eventually fled the country .
