But the visitor message is like the wall of graffiti in the back alley that people rarely notice, we need something so that at the top of the main page, it displays the most recent "public message". We could automatically hijack private messages instead, but that would fuck up mafia beyond repair.

What we should do is have an entire subforum called "Messages to Users," then each user has his/her own thread, that'd totally be more accessible for some strange reason than those public messages where you're discouraged from posting anything longer than three or four lines of content.
