Well if it's not that would remove a large part of my problems... but Anderson quite specifically tells Shepard to get off earth and gather the allies. So I don't really understand how that could be any other way unless they trick the reapers and have all the citadel race fleets about to jump in just after the reapers hit earth. again thats not really the way it was portrayed in the scene with Anderson though.

Actually here is a question.
Why the hell are the reapers attacking Earth first anyway? I would imagine the Citadel would be target one cause the Reapers always made it target one in the other cycles, that is what the thing is designed for. Or is this, once again, a case on how "HUMANS ARE SPECIAL". |

besides which, he is aware of what the Reapers were doing with those colonists. He has every reason imaginable to not want the Reapers to win, and from what we see he's never directly exposed himself to any experiment that might have infected individual cells of his operation. In fact, Cerebus seems uniquely prepared to deal with the bullshit Reaper tech can pull because no one cell could infect another. They were all operating independently from what I remember. So, yeah. He picked up the idiot ball in one way or another. Then figuratively bashed his own face in with it I suppose.

Edit: Also probably why it takes long enough for the game to progress. It takes time to round up living victims. Much more time than it takes to murder a planet. And even murdering a planet was shown to take them a good while when you look at the stuff Virgil told you on Ilos.

Or rather, through the collectors we see that they're capable of forcing an entire colony to go into stasis mode. Why are they blasting everything in sight, rather than doing that? Especially when you consider the unarmed transports that they blasted in the middle of a fight. Did they decide making Shepard look sorrowful and contemplative at the death of a young lad he'd met was worth the specimens they were vaporizing?

Since he is the boss, you would only have to brain-wash him.
If the leaked ending I heard about has any truth to it at all, I know exactly why TIM would be trying to stop Shepard.

Also: The reason they wouldn't go after the Citadel first? It no longer works for them the way it did in the other invasions. In ME1 you uploaded the overload code. The Reapers can no longer use it to shut down all the mass relays like they could in previous invasions. There's no real reason for them to hit it first now.
The two best strategic targets for a first strike now are the humans and turians because turians have the strongest fleet and humans have the second strongest fleet, and well they want as many humans alive as possible so starting there before they get murdered in the war is probably not a bad plan.

It could be The Illusive Man holds a personal grudge with Shepard. Which makes less sense though if your Shepard didn't destroy the Collector station.
e: I think Citadel still makes sense as a target because of the Council and all the embassies. Galactic central goverment is a pretty good target. Though I agree that The Citadel would no longer be as high a priority as in other cases before.
