I think there was an expressed interest in capturing Shepard specifically as well. The Reapers seem intrigued by him.

They probably wanna make Shepard the human reaper core personality or something.

At this point I'd like to go on record saying that, possibly excluding a few of the things brought up in this thread, I understand the ME3 demo has left people with a mostly good impression of the coming game. That makes me slightly relieved, though the jury is still out.

I think I can explain how earth can not be nuked, and why they aren't in orbit. I'm guessing complete genocide isn't their goal, assuming making a human based Reaper is still on the menu. Their indoctrination technology is proximity based, so they are probably just blasting the bulk of humanity and mind-raping the survivors. This also means you might be able to free those under control.

Yeah that is what they supposedly did with a lot of the Protheans; came in, destroyed any possible military threats first, then just killed a shit load of people but indoctrinated the survivors. I can buy that. I'm still not a 100% conviced that they'd go to Earth first. I mean surely they are atleast attacking several other important planets at the same time.
