I mean, what I'm trying to say here is that we don't really need to get into some bigass stupid rivalry with the rebel scum or whatever because it's literally all the same people on both forums, with like a couple exceptions.
Shit, SO and I are moderators on both forums, come on.

I dunno that we need to explicitly greet newcomers or that they need to introduce themselves. If I'm new coming in on a forum the two things that would creep me out the most would be a questionnaire on my interests and hobbies and people going out of their way to make me feel welcome. Your forum is already welcoming and interesting enough to get me to register, just let me start posting and you'll probably get to know me soon enough.
... I should maybe take a good look at the introduction thread in that light and make it seem less like an obligation. Totally with you on the bit about the lolcats character of the crowd favorites and the reduced need for having them in their own forum. The trouble with more persistent threads on roleplaying, or anything really, is that posting here is for the most part a very spur-of-the-moment thing. Looking at the most recent D&D thread, people simply don't talk enough about their ongoing experiences with the game, or news about it, to keep a thread active consistently over a long time. Other forums manage to keep the same thread going for thousands of posts with pretty consistent quality. Same with threads on TV shows or movies, most of those boil down to "X is coming out, here's a trailer," then everyone comments on the trailer for a page or two, then the thread drops off the front pages and when the next trailer comes out, it gets a new thread. |

There's a new/rebel forum? Clearly war must be declared.
And it is obvious POS's desire for peace is a ruse, as he is working for the rival forum to lull us into a false sense of security before they strike.

POS is a double agent who doesn't know he is a double agent. Like Mac from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Osterbaum meanwhile is a double-dutch agent.

What happened to Seil? I miss all the random things he would come up with.

Thing is, as you grew up, a lot of things changed in a lot of people's lives. I could go on a huge thing about how there are very varying levels of privilege, but the fact of the matter is, some people are in positions where they don't see how certain things are actual problems. As a result, some ignorant-ass things have been said. Usually not maliciously, but that doesn't mean they weren't harmful. We've all seen the countless clusterfucks because of that, and because some people can't take a joke. Whatever. Any other forum, I'd probably chalk it up to "yeah, just trolls, laugh it off," but this is, like I've said, a bizarre family, and getting shit like that from your family in real life sucks. I think for a lot of people, NPF was sort of a safe place, where you could spend years making friends with people and growing closer, but then it turns out that half of us don't actually consider problems they don't have to deal with as problems, and the other half are basically yelling at anyone in a position of privilege, and blah blah fucking blah, shit falls apart. That's what gets me, personally- it's not new users who've been causing issues, it's the same damn people who have been here for years. It doesn't help that there have been some monumentally stupid decisions on the parts of the staff, although to be fair, that was pretty much the same when I first joined, albeit for different reasons. Nowadays we have inaction, apologies far past the fact, and batshit stupid decisions, as opposed to moderators who acted like dicks when someone crossed the line, but actually acted like they were part of the community. Now we've had so many massive clusterfucks that there's another forum, people are leaving (hell, apparently we've driven off Seil? What the hell.), and somehow Liz is what, permabanned? for overreacting one too many times and acting in an entirely justified manner the rest of the time, while members who we all know are douchebags who are actually in the wrong are still here. Everything's gone stupid. Yeah, maybe some people need to take a joke better, or at the very least realize that a joke isn't a massive personal attack that should lead to a dramabomb. But by that same token, some people should know when not to make a joke, or when certain topics might cause an issue. Preferably without having to preface every sentence with bullshit trigger warnings. It's like, Christ, any given thread it's gonna be a toss-up between whether you're acting like /b/ or acting like tumblr, except it's even more embarrassing because we should all know each other well enough to not be dumbasses. I don't know what happened to cause this rampant fuckshittery, but it's made both forums pretty much uninhabitable. The really sad thing is, no matter how many times this is said and people seem to agree with it, you always go back to the same old bullshit. It's pathetic. |

Oh, don't be silly, I couldn't go to Robin's party because I was too busy saving orphans from a fire. Oddly enough, witnesses say that it was caused by some creature that kept meowing while setting things (and orphans!) on fire.
