Hmm... I wish I had time for multiple projects. I'd love to do another comic* or a little flash game or whatnot
![]() Maybe I could write another comic and have someone else draw it, assuming Brian would be willing to post it... Stupid TIME. I need to work faster or settle for less. *by "do another comic" I mean one on my own or one I write. I don't think I'm very keen on drawing another one unless I'm the writer or the writer was someone I really liked/trusted and the story was super totes interesting.

But then again like 80% of incoming Redditors would probably leave/be banned in the space of a week, so. It's basically the single greatest thing ever to come from Youtube and still going strong.

You guys have to admit there was no logical reason Brian couldn't bring Black Belt back to life.

That...might work. Though most of our bad decisions are livestreams these days.

I'm trying not to be accusational or insulting, but I do have some very strong feelings about this...
Personally, I felt back around the time of Kary, there were some of the most amazing moments I've read in any webcomic ever, and certainly rivalling most of the printed comics I've read. It took characters that were mostly fairly silly, and put them in situations and gave them emotions and drives they normally didn't have, and without it seeming like "OMG THE WORLD'S SUDDENLY SWITCHED". I thought it was great that a major character died(though in my opinion, he didn't get enough attention), that people reacted to that, and weren't sure what to do. For the first time, you realised "Oh fuck... there is some sense of ultimate reality here...". It was an amazing bomb to drop. I thought the Fighter Swordchucks thing was amazing, and ingenious. And the way Red Mage took leadership... Black Mage... he actually developed his character, along with Fighter. We saw that perhaps, like once suggested in one of the earlier "Introspective" comics, he may have a good heart but something inside him causes him to keep messing up. The "Hadoken Love" thing gave us a really interesting insight to his character. Black Mage was actually making a moral decision. And then I stop reading for a while because surely if I read a whole load at once it will be so cool and awesome because of the way the plots going. And what do I get? I get Beserker and Ranger acting like idiots, and all the characters are back to square one. WTF? I barely have interest in the plot now. I'm literally cringing over the latest comic because I know that no good will come of it, Black Mage will almost definitely do something stupid and/or evil as if his "development" had never happened. The thing I hate most though, and almost feel is responsible, are people (very often with low post counts) saying "Yay BM! Kill everyone ![]() I don't know about you, but I believe in such a thing as a character's personality getting old, especially one so extreme as BM. The "So Evil" jokes are great and all, but they've been done to death(Quite literally...). I find it ironic that the same people would tell others that they don't know what they want for suggesting BM turn good and hook up with WM. I mean, at least that's development. I really, honestly, firmly believe these people don't know what's good for them. I kind of sympathise with Bendis and the writers of the Ultimate series right now, because they have a hard time changing things, even though I don't often agree with their changes. One of the major points of the Ultimate series was to try and fix the kind of thing I feel the last while of 8-Bit has turned into. I kind of find the latest extremely obvious addition of Vilbert to the Dark warriors bemusing, I mean it's not as if Goth/Emo/whatever jokes are fresh and new and not entirely annoying(as a Sisters of Mercy & Bauhaus fan I might be a little bias, but I think that's kind of the point). I don't think characters like Beserker have much long term appeal without some kind of development, either. And I really think if the comic is going back to being completely silly, we should have more King Steve. I'm not acting like I demand anything(obviously), that I expect the comic to alter itself to the greater truth that is my opinion, or that I have a PhD in dramatics. But I know what I like, and I have an idea of what people are like deep down and how they really react to things inside. I'm just a fan being honest, and stating my honest opinion as a person who has a decent understand of how people and their emotions often react. I, personally, don't like the way the characters have de-evolved. I firmly believe that the slightly more serious direction was the right way to go, that Black Mage morally questioning himself was far more interesting than Kletus Cassady in robes, and that the way the characters seemed to be developing was intriguing. I for one LOVE the weird "WTF?" comics with the funky backgrounds and philosphical statements. I love that such a silly comic can still have a serious basis in some form. Honestly, Black Belt may as well come back from the dead now. It's not as if his death means anything anymore. I firmly believe that if the comic had taken on a darker tone as the Kary saga suggested, it could have both remained humorous and funny.

I registered to post just this one post. I hope it incites discussion, but its more my opinion than anything else. First, I'd like to say that i played the original FFI/FFII/FFIV/FFVI on NES->SNES and I've followed this awesome story called 8-bit from about episode 9 or so. I've been lurking around here for awhile watching people "make predictions" and whatnot and I've been wondering:
Does anyone respect 8-bit as a work of art? Or are we all using it to further our own ego-centric, pompous forum-gameresque ids? Think about it. This comic is really, really good. I haven't seen anyone else take anything to do with a Squaresoft game and rehash it into anything RESEMBLING good. Hell, even SQUARE-ENIX can't do anything good with their past games except re-release them on GBA/DS/DSi for 3 times the original amount of money they cost to play the first time. And here is Brian, turning a very memorable game with an extremely hardcore fanbase into a MORE than acceptable comic. I mean...there are vast amounts of people on this forum that sit and make predictions update after update after update after update and critique the HELL out of Brian, call him names and such. Are we forgetting that he is the CREATOR of this storyline? This is HIS story, HIS almost decade long labor! There is nothing for you to do but READ IT. Critique when it's DONE. Just because you are vested in the storyline doesn't mean that you own part of it. Just because you are a big fan doesn't mean that you now get to superimpose your will onto the writing. This is not a group effort. I feel like in the past month, a large group of superegos have risen up to try to be able to say "OMGZ, I WAZ IN UR COMIC, PREDICTIN UR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENTZ" (yes, thats a reference). I personally very strongly feel that all these critics are really starting to affect the storyline, as someone is BOUND to "predict" whats going to happen based on PURE LUCK. Then Brian has to say to himself "well...that's spoiled now...what can I do to fix this?". Its the biggest problem with making a work public before its done. I mean, think about what would have happened if Shakespeare had made Macbeth pubic throughout its writing? There would be no incest, and no murder spree at the end. And then it wouldn't be my favorite Shakespearian play. Then we have "filler" (maybe its not a filler, maybe it would've been like that ANYWAY and it only LOOKS like filler because there are a bunch of people who can't shut UP, and they are indirectly AFFECTING THE STORYLINE) comics like this last one and everyone is upset. I'm almost sure that update would not have been unsatisfactory to nearly as many people if everyone would just "shut the goddamn hell UP" and let Brian write it. Just let the man write the story, please! Let the artist/writer develop the characters without being harried by an endless parade of armchair webcomic wannabes. You want a better plot? Chrono Trigger doesn't have a comic yet, why don't some of you get together and go take one of the greatest games of all time and make something substantial about it. Brian already has. Please stop ruining it ![]()
